Remembrance: the social and the spiritual, the Ancestors and the Inheritors. The issue of dementia and the project at the Odensehuis we have to deal with are here a pretext to introspection. What is remembering for me? When you no longer know where you’re going, just remember where you came from. My father used to tell me that a lot, and as a bothered child, I would not grasp the meaning of these words, wallowing idly in ordinary parent denial, as my own parents did before me. At home we have an altar. It is resting on a very nineties shelf from Ikea, just above the collections of old CDs, vinyl and tape records. There is one at my grandmother’s, one at my aunt’s, and one at my other aunt’s. There is one in our new house in Vietnam, as there was one in our former house in Vietnam.
