Division 12 News School Of the Month Barbe Barbe’s Key Club has done an AMAZING job this past month! They started off their month pretty rough but worked through it together. I was able to go caroling with them and attended their Christmas party. It was really nice to see their club joining together to have some fun before school let out. I then attended their sponsoring Kiwanis club’s meeting/lunch and it was real honor to get to meet them! Later that night I went to an amazing service project that their Kiwanis host every year. We had 30 kids that we took to McDonalds and they got to eat anything they wanted. Even the key clubbers and the kids family go to eat too. Then we went to Target and each kid got $100 to spend on anything they wanted. Key clubbers were assigned families to help out. We had to keep track of how much money they had left and assisted in anything they needed. It was such a great experience for me and I’m sure a lot of other key clubbers. I had a great job and Barbe’s key club has done an outstanding job this past month. Congratulations Barbe key club and keep up the great work!

President’s Council Meeting (PCM) When? January 28 Where? Books-a-Million in Lake Charles, LA Time? 3pm Who can attend? Key Club Officers

School Project Ideas!

Appreciation Day Parents, faculty, and staff should be thanked for their support. Your Key Club could conduct a end-of-the-year buffet luncheon. Decorate the staff’s lounge with balloons and crepe paper. Arrange to have several students dress as mimes and “aid” guests in getting through the line. Welcome Sign Often, a visitor’s first impression of a town is its welcome sign. Students can design signs for each entrance to their towns and have them made by the vocational agriculture or shop classes. Trophy Case Buy or build a trophy case for the school. Time for Caring and Sharing For your holiday community-service project, stage a variety show at a nursing home. Schedule a second performance at a school for youngsters with disabilities. Teacher of the Month Competition Sponsor a “Teacher-of-the-Month” competition. During each month of the school year, cite outstanding teachers for special activities, particularly their participation in extracurricular events. Retired Persons Gathering Host gettogethers for retired adults on Saturdays and on special occasions. Play checkers, cards, etc. with them and serve refreshments. Whenever possible, as a change, invite speakers to the gatherings. Project Bootstrap Offer assistance to younger elementarylevel students with school problems – from arithmetic to discipline – for an hour a week. Paper Product Drive Collect paper products, such as tissues, paper towels, and diapers, to aid a child crisis center. Homeroom competitions motivate students to participate in the project. Award-winning homerooms in each grade win a free movie and popcorn party.
