2019 Alumy Creek Angus Bull Sale Welcome to our Annual on property Angus Bull Sale. This year we are pleased to offer a terrific draft of 50 two year old bulls, which contains an excellent selection of thick, heavily muscled carcase and calving ease bulls, with many suitable for heifers. The bulls are presenting very well despite the prevailing season on the New England and are testament to the easy doing high feed efficiency genetics we select for in our Angus cow herd. They are a very consistent line displaying plenty of natural muscle, thickness and easy finishing ability to suit any Angus market. The AI sires of the bulls are some of the best genetics available within the Angus breed. Colin has inspected the sires of these bulls in the US and was very happy with them. We continue to identify and use outcross genetic bulls early in their breeding career with many seeing heavy use as superior sires in major Australian programs with time. We strive to produce short gestation length, easy calving Angus bulls that are long, heavy muscled and easy doing to sire calves that finish early and weigh on the scales because that is what our customers are paid on. We select to breed Angus cattle that can produce a profit under commercial conditions and are flexible in their market options. Alumy Creek sired weaners consistently have been bred and fed to become champion pens in show and sale competitions. Because we retain the sisters to the bulls we sell, the mature cow size of our cattle must be sustainable in our grazing environment, especially in seasons like these. We also apply stiff selection pressure for fertility, our heifers must calve as two year olds unassisted and must go back in calf quickly to produce a calf each and every year. Clients always comment on the consistency, quality and performance of their Alumy Creek sired replacement females. We believe in using temperament, structure, EBVs and genomics as equal tools in the selection box for balanced sustainable cattle breeding and we don’t just add the EBV numbers or single trait select. Our selection focus on growth, muscle, carcase and feed efficiency produces cattle that can achieve extra performance kilos on grass in the paddock with the potential to excel into flexible feedlot markets.

We continue to embrace new technology with the sale bulls again all tested with the Zoetis HDi50K DNA genomic testing and all sire verified. The bulls have outstanding Breedplan results, many with top 1–10% EBVs for the multiple traits we have selected for over the past 30 years—Calving Ease, Short Gestation Length, fast early Growth for 200D, 400D and Carcase Wts, EMA, Feed Efficiency and Retail Yield. These breed rankings are against all the performance recording measured on Angus cattle in Australia and NZ and confirmation that our bulls carry the genes for profitable performance even though our environment doesn’t always allow them to express their full potential. Our bulls present in strong forward paddock condition, ready to go out and work well for you. The 2019 sale draft includes a selection of bulls by the calving ease feedlot carcase specialists Baldridge Compass and Connealy Sandman, the powerful growth muscle and feedlot sires Freys Opportunity, Vision Unanimous and PA Ranch House, the calving ease and vealer specialist Poss Element and our walking sires the all-rounder Carabar Wheelwright H215 (maternal brother to leading Australian sire Carabar Docklands) and Alumy Creek Edmund L004, (by Rennylea Edmund). Baldridge Compass is an outstanding Commando son—very deep bodied, smooth fronted with excellent structure and carcase. He was the pick of eight full brothers at Colin’s US inspection and a maternal brother sold last year for $580K. Compass is next generation complete sire, with low birth weights, outstanding weaner and yearling growth, heavy muscle and carcase traits. His progeny are a very consistent type, deep, thick and very easy doing. Use his sons on heifers or cows to produce top steers and peas in a pod females. We are pleased to offer some of the oldest Compass calves available with 12 bulls in this year’s sale and several outstanding sire lots on offer at Lots 1, 2, 3, 4, 14, 15, 16, 18, 25, 26, 30 and 41. They are some of the heaviest muscled bulls we have bred to date.
