Working at height is one of our biggest risk factors.
When working at height steps MUST be taken to prevent any person, materials or tools from falling. In addition, there are specific steps that you MUST take when there is a possibility of falling.
DO:
Ensure physical collective fall protection have been provided to prevent falls where work cannot be done safely from the ground. Ensure guardrails and toe boards or an equivalent standard of protection have been provided at any edge from which people or equipment could fall. Ensure the means of access and the working place are of sound construction and capable of supporting people, materials and tools. Ensure if a mobile platform is being used ensure it has the necessary safeguards and guardrails and wheels are locked off to prevent movement. Ensure where it is impractical to install edge protection, follow controls detailed within the Risk Assessment. Take extra care in wet, windy or icy weather conditions.
Wear a harness and clip on to a suitable anchor point where there is a risk of fall or unprotected edges. Tether tools and equipment when necessary. Only take up tools/equipment you need for the job. Store materials in suitable bags.
