Extended Project Qualification (EPQ)
Studying an EPQ allows students to embark on a largely self-directed and self-motivated project with the support of an experienced supervisor. Students choose a topic, then plan, research and develop their idea and decide on their finished project (which must include a report but can also include an artefact or a production such as an event or show).

Students learn project management and organisational skills as well as essay writing, research, and critical analysis. They learn to identify, design, plan and complete a project; to research a range of sources, analyse data and apply it relevantly; to solve problems creatively; and to review and evaluate their learning and performance.
For universities it shows a high level of knowledge and interest in a subject as well as independent learning and is often a key talking point at interviews. The qualification provides an opportunity for students to extend their abilities beyond the A level syllabus and to stand out, with the added bonus of earning extra UCAS points. It is also great preparation for university study or future careers.
