Year 7- 12 Curriculum Information The Secondary school comprises Year 7 to Year 12.At Al Salam Private School, we prepare our students to take the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) course and the Advanced Subsidiary (AS) Examinations of the Universities of Cambridge and Edexcel boards (UK). The Cambridge IGCSE curriculum is an internationally recognised curriculum used in over 150 countries across the world. In addition to development of specific skills and competencies, the curriculum emphasizes thinking skills, enquiry, creativity, planning and other skills needed to meet the challenges of the future. Years 7, 8 & 9
Years 7 , 8 and 9 follow the Cambridge Secondary 1 curriculum which lay the foundation for students in a wide range of subjects including English, Arabic ,French ,Mathematics, Social Studies, History, Geography, Science, Environmental Management( Yr 9),Commerce (Yr 9 ), ICT, Art, Music ,P.E and Islamic Education & PSHE. This integrated academic course lays the foundation for the IGCSE subjects taken in Year 10 & 11. Students appear for the Cambridge Checkpoint examination at the end of year 9. Years 10 and 11 Years 10 & 11 prepares students for the Cambridge IGSCE Examination. Skills learned in earlier years are brought into sharp focus as the student enters this level. Independent thinking, research and resource collection and effective communication are the essential skills focused on at this level. Students are expected to take a minimum of 8 subjects. Compulsory IGCSE subjects: English as a First / Second Language, Mathematics and Information & Communication Technology. Optional IGCSE subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Business Studies, Accountancy, Economics, Environmental Management, Geography and History. Optional IGCSE languages: Arabic as a Foreign Language and French Ministry of Education curriculum: Arabic and Islamic Education. Year 12 / AS Level / Sixth Form In Year 12, the Advanced Subsidiary Level (AS) we offer Cambridge International AS Level and Edexcel, General Certificate of Education (GCE) at year 12. AS Level is taken at the mid-point of an A-Level programme. Students are expected to take a minimum of 4 subjects Optional Subjects: Edexcel IAL (Mathematics), CIE: (Applied ICT, English Literature, Accountancy, Economics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Business Studies, and Geography)
