Spanish Teacher in Charge of Subject: Mr J Hunton Entry Requirements: You will need to have gained a minimum of Grade B GCSE. Course Details: You will continue to study the language through the four skill areas of listening, speaking, reading and writing. You will however work within wider and more sophisticated areas of experience than at GCSE whilst learning how to become more independent and resourceful. A variety of topics will be covered and there will be scope for you to look at specific areas of interest to you. All Sixth Form language students have priority access to the assistant working within small groups. You will have a wide range of opportunities to engage with Spanish through the use of CDs, the VLE, the Internet, magazines, newspapers, videos, songs, the language lab, cartoons and other authentic materials. We will also explore the world of literature and film (at A2). You will develop your cultural knowledge of Spanish-speaking communities and explore how young people in Spain live; their preferences and opinions on a wide range of issues.

Exams/Coursework: You will be entered for the WJEC examination which consists of 4 units, 2 at AS and 2 at A2.

Career Options: In 2006, 429,293,261 people in the world spoke Spanish. It is predicted that there will be 530,000,000 Spanish speakers by 2050. Spanish has roughly the same number of first language speakers as English. The top five Spanish-speaking nations are Mexico (100 million), Colombia (44.5 million), Spain (44 million), Argentina (38.5 million) and the USA (38 million). That’s a lot of people speaking Spanish and a lot of businesses that will need Spanish. Your language skills will help to give you an advantage in a competitive job market and give you access to a higher salary. At University you can combine Spanish language study with a vast range of other subject areas including Business, English, Science, Maths, History, Politics, The Arts and of course other languages.
