RECOVERY TIME FOR LIPOSUCTION PROCEDURE

Liposuction is a cosmetic surgery for people who want to remove isolated pockets of fat from certain areas of their body which are out of proportion. It is not a permanent weight loss procedure. People who have failed to reduce weight even after following proper diet and exercise tend to undergo liposuction. Pre and post care is a must for people planning to undergo liposuction. Liposuction recovery will depend upon the type of liposuction performed and also the pre and post care taken. There are different liposuction procedures like Laser Liposuction, Vaser Liposuction and Tumescent Liposuction. Depending upon which procedure is used and on how many areas it is performed the recovery time varies. Usually the recovery time is 2 to 10 days after the procedure. Some swelling or bruising might occur post the treatment. Patients are also sometimes advised to wear tight fitting compression garments in order to reduce the swelling at certain areas. The liposuction procedure is usually a day care or a one night long procedure. The recovery time of a liposuction procedure will vary depending upon the areas to be covered and the anesthesia given for the treatment. If large areas need to be covered then general anesthesia is usually preferred. For smaller areas local anesthesia is given. Patients are not allowed to drive immediately after the procedure because although general or local anesthesia is given there is some amount of dizziness that might occur. Some friend or relative is usually asked to accompany the patient after the treatment.

Some medication and diet is also prescribed to the patient post the treatment. Proper care taken post the treatment will ensure a faster recovery. The mobility of the patient gets restricted because of the compression garments that they are advised to wear. Swelling or bruising may be present depending on the type of liposuction performed. Swelling may linger for a longtime as compared to bruising. The normal liposuction recovery time is usually 4 to 6 months. Immediate results are not seen in many patients. The results become visible within the span of 6 months. The skin around the treated area might appear loose. To ensure faster recovery patients are advised to keep themselves well hydrated. The recovery time of a liposuction procedure will vary from patient to patient. For best results it’s advisable to follow the surgeon’s pre and post treatment instructions properly.
