Self belief, mutual respect and belonging

The Good Samaritan Luke 10 People were always asking Jesus questions.

One day a man asked him “I know we must love God and I know that God wants us to take care of other people, too. But who does he want us to help? Is it just our friends?”

Then Jesus told him this story….

A man was walking down a lonely road. All of a sudden, some robbers jumped out and attacked him. They took all the things he had with him. Then they left him, hurt, lying by the road.

Luckily, a priest was on his way down the same road, but when he saw him he moved across to the other side.

Then a Levite religious man showed up; he also avoided the injured man.

It was getting late when he heard the clip clop of someone coming down the road on a donkey. This was a man from another country, an enemy country. He stopped when he saw the man who was hurt. “He needs help,� the traveller said.

So he cleaned the man’s injuries and put on bandages. Then he lifted him carefully onto his donkey. A little way on they came to an inn.

“This poor man has been hurt by some robbers. They have run off with all his money,” the traveller told the inn keeper.

“Here’s some money, I hope it’s enough.

Take care of him until he is well. If it costs more, I will pay you when I come back.”

Now Jesus asked the man a question.

“Tell me, which of these people did as God wanted?”

“The one who was kind and helped the man who was hurt,” the man answered.

“Then be like him,” said Jesus. “Be kind to anyone who needs your help. Not just your friends. Not just the people you know but anyone.”
