PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Subject Outline:
Elective Physical Education offers an opportunity for students interested in the theoretical aspects of this discipline. The subject provides students with knowledge, understanding and skills to optimise personal performance in a range of integrated physical activities. Students will be exposed to advanced team and individual movement strategies in an environment with likeminded and enthusiastic participants. Physical Education involves students learning in, about and through physical activity and focuses on the inter-relationships between the human performance disciplines of anatomy, motor learning, exercise physiology and skill acquisition.
Assessment:
Assessment for Physical Education consists of:
• Demonstrating specialist movement sequences and movement strategies
• Applying concepts to movement sequences and movement strategies
• Making and applying discerning judgements about optimising performance
• Providing and applying solutions to movement challenges.
• Evaluating strategies for optimising performance
Performance assessment is ongoing and integrated into a project-folio presented as a multimodal.
Skills used in and developed by studying this subject:
The learning experiences in Physical Education are designed to allow students to develop as increasingly self-directed, interdependent and independent learners who can:
• Analyse and evaluate a range of physical performance activities, strategies and tactics
• Reflect critically on how to optimise performance
• Develop an understanding of how to optimise performance.
Future Pathways: Year 11 and 12
The skills learnt will benefit students intending to continue their Physical Education studies in Year 11 and 12.
Beyond School
Career options are broad and constantly evolving in the areas of Sport and Human Movement. Some pathways would include: Health and Physical Education teacher, sport psychologist, health scientist, nurse, dietician, sports coach, fitness instructor, physiotherapist, exercise physiologist and sport manager. Courses relevant to this subject could include sports marketing, sports management, physiotherapy, exercise science, sports physiology, sports administration, human movement studies.
Sport And Recreation
Subject Outline:
This subject focuses on the role of Sport and Recreation in the life of the student. It is a subject that provides an opportunity to learn in, through and about sport and active recreational activities.
Through the study of Sport and Recreation students will examine:
• How physical skills can enhance participation and performance
• Factors that influence participation in sport
• How interpersonal skills support effective interaction with others
• How the sport and recreation industry contributes to individual and community outcomes.
Sport and Recreation has an integrated approach where the student is actively involved in all aspects of the unit as performers, organisers, leaders, coaches and officials.
Assessment:
Evidence of student achievements will be presented in a multimodal presentation. Students will demonstrate physical performance in a range of sport and recreation contexts. Indicators of performance will require students to be involved as participants, organisers and supervisors in areas such as:
• Sport-specific skills in games contexts
• Coaching
• Officiating
• Organising and managing events
• Personal training
Skills used in and developed by studying this subject: Students will
• Enhance development of physical skills in a fun active environment
• Develop confidence in the delivery of information to others (interpersonal skills)
• Prepare and implement plans for events with emphasis on workflow and communication
• Develop an understanding of Health and Safety requirements at events
• Use current technology for running events
• Evaluate the impact of facilities (gym) on healthy lifestyles
Future Pathways:
Year 11 and 12
This subject is fundamental in developing an understanding and skills related to the Certificate II in Sport and Recreation and Certificate III in Fitness SIS20115/SIS30315. It will also give the students insight into Traineeships that may be available.
Beyond School
A course of study in Sport and Recreation can establish a basis for further education and employment in the fields of fitness, outdoor recreation and education, sports administration, community leaders and sport performers.
