Subject Outline:

Photomedia is an exciting new Visual Art subject that focuses on the development of 21st century skills, transferable to all senior subjects and careers. Communication through visual imagery is one of our main sources of information in contemporary media. Students are taught to unlock the visual language through knowledge of design principles and the history of image making.

Students learn advanced functions of the DSLR camera in association with post-production editing programs Photoshop and Lightroom to construct a portfolio of images that communicate a concept and develop their own personal aesthetic through decision making and observation. Excursions to places of visual interest such as fish markets, wrecking yards, construction sites, will provide new sources of creative inspiration for building intentional narratives.

This subject is term based and works towards the study of Visual Art in Years 11 and 12.

Assessment:

Making - Shoot and edit a portfolio of narrative photographs and display and promote the image series Responding - Concept justification based on your photographic folio

Skills used in and developed by studying this subject:

• Communication skills – understanding symbols and text, and communicating with diverse audiences.

• Visual Art and/or

• Visual Arts in Practice and/or

• Design in Year 11 and 12.
