PRATT DORMITORY - FALL 2010 The Pratt Dormitory, a two-person proposal, is located in Cooper Square. After studying the site and surroundings, the concept for our dorm is based on the anthropological term coevalness, used to describe the realization of modern and primitive societies existing at the same time. The goal was to have students be in touch with their surroundings by designing their dorm rooms to be angled toward important areas of the city, forcing awareness of their coexistance.

The dorm program included a farmer’s market on the second floor in order to include the community into the building. The green roof was run by both students who lived in the dorm and volunteers from the area, similar to how plots in public gardens work. We also considered several environmental materials for construction, including eco-cement and a recycled metal paneling system.

DIA RED HOOK - SPRING 2011 TIME, DOMINANCE, AND THE VOID The concept for the Dia Red Hook Museum was based on the three terms above, along with: sequence, hierarchy, space between, memory, force, and invasion. The idea was that the museum was built in phases over time, with certain programs and materials being able to take over or cut out part of the existing fabric, inspired by the planning of the street grid of Rome. The required program included temporary and permanent galleries, library, bookstore, and auditorium. The phases were based strategically on the program, and each had a specific building material that was used during the design of that particular space. PHASE 1 - ENTRY AND TEMPORARY GALLERY

EDUCATIONAL SATELLITE SCHOOL - DESIGN BUILD - FALL 2011 The focus of this studio was not only about the program, which was to design Educational Satellites in rural Barranquilla, Colombia, but also designing with polyurethane, a plastic material that became structural by applying heat. The idea was to use this material in its most advantageous way in order to replace or use less of a more expensive or more difficult one.

C POSSIBILITIES FOR GROWTH/ CHANGE

Each design team had to choose their own site and propose their own manifesto. After further researching the needs of the people of Barranquilla, my partner and I decided to place our project on one of the most important things of the development of the city, the Magdalena River, in which we set our educational principles around ecological awareness, communication and health, using the site and river as a direct learning tool.

Another challenge of this studio was to design simple enough to build a one to one prototype in house. The structure was a simple concrete pier, steel tube with a bamboo rod placed within. Using only three angles allowed more control of the design yet spaces were still flexible.
