Artemis Joukowsky ’77 (artemis@joukowsky.com) premiered his film, Two Who Dared: The Sharp’s War, in schools, churches, synagogues, theaters and other venues from April 7-18, marking Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day. The film tells a remarkable story of courage, documenting the lives of Reverend Waitstill Sharp and his wife Martha, as they risked their lives to help feed, shelter, and rescue thousands of refugees during the Holocaust. Artemis visited A-S on April 24 for a screening of his film and a talk with current ninth graders who studied the film for their Facing History projects.

1980s

Stewart Fried ’83 (sfried@ofwlaw.com) has joined Olsson Frank Weeda Law in Washington, DC as a principal. Stewart specializes in litigation, primarily for agricultural interests. He is hosting an A-S alumni gathering at the Watergate in May.

John Henry ’84 (jchenry21@gmail.com) was dressed in full Viking gear as he represented Norway at the Parents Association’s 2013 International Festival on February 23. The event drew more than 725 parents and children who enjoyed entertainment, food and activities that showcased the cultural diversity of the A-S community. See page 7 for more on the International Festival.

Paul Weitz ’80 (silasaxe@aol.com) has a movie out, called Admission. It stars Tina Fey and Paul Rudd, and word on the street is that David kersey h’98 has a small voiceover role to play in the film. You’ll have to watch to find out. Andrew Landis ’82 (andrew@luckydiem.com) recently celebrated the launch of his new company LuckyDiem. The company is a digital marketing platform that marries gaming with rewards and savings. LuckyDiem addresses our culture's infatuation with discounting and how it has eroded brand loyalty and profit margins alike. He says, "LuckyDiem's magic involves changing the consumer's perceived value of an incentive. Crack the code on that and a rather large industry starts to be disrupted. Wish me luck!" 38

Phillip Utsch ’84 (utschp@gmail.com) and his wife, Leena, welcomed a son, Phoenix Gardner Utsch, on February 7, 2013, weighing in at 8lbs, 9oz with a full head of black hair like his mother. All are doing well. Phillip says, “We are thrilled!”

Oliver kramer ’86 (oliverkramer@aol.com) and his fiancée, Sarita Schueller, welcomed their daughter. Mia Delphine Kramer who was born on November 16, 2012, at 7:44am at Prentice Women's Hospital & Medical Center in Chicago. Mia weighed in at 6lbs, 11oz. Both Sarita and Baby Mia are doing great.

Bill konigsberg ’86 (bkonigsberg@gmail.com) visited A-S on March 14, and spoke to grades 6-9 during Monday Morning Meeting. Bill is a sports writer, the author of young adult books, Out of the Pocket and the soon-to-bereleased Openly Straight, and a writing professor at Arizona State University. His talk at MMM focused on bullying, his feeling different and being treated differently at A-S, and his being gay. Major Christopher Hallows ’87 (hallowschris@hotmail.com) recently returned to Afghanistan for his 12th combat tour. He writes, “This summer the family and I will be moving up to Newport, RI, where I will be attending the Naval Command and Staff College. We are looking forward to being closer to family, friends and A-S!" John kirby ’87 (johnapkirby@gmail.com) directed a film with Robbie Gemmel titled Cape Spin! An American Power Struggle. The film’s New York City premiere was held at Lincoln Center on November 13. Cape Spin! tells the surreal, fascinating, tragicomic story of the battle over America’s most controversial clean energy project.
