A N OT E F RO M T H E A L U M N I C O U N C I L Dear Allen-Stevenson Community, I have the distinct honor of serving Allen-Stevenson as the President of the Alumni Council and, in this capacity, as an ex officio member of the Board of Trustees. As you will read in this edition of the Lamplighter, A-S has successfully adapted to the many challenges of the past year and is continuing our mission to educate boys to become scholars and gentlemen.

With an eye to the future, I am pleased to inform you of the newly established Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) Committee of the Board. We recognize the importance of a committee designed to review all aspects of Allen-Stevenson with a DEIB lens. I will serve as the Alumni Liaison of this committee and look to you, my fellow alumni, for ideas and recommendations. We are committed to ensuring an inclusive community. In the pages of this publication, we highlight the incredible accomplishments of our alumni community. I urge you to read about the newly opened North Gym, which I think will make for a fantastic venue for alumni events in the future, alongside many interviews highlighting the athletic prowess of our alumni. Also included is a feature on Luis Ubinas ’78, Board Chairman of The Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation, as well as news updates shared by fellow alumni. We hope you will send us your news too. Please know that I truly love serving my fellow alumni and hope to see many of you get involved in shaping the future of our alma mater. I look forward to seeing many of you in person and on the screen in the future. Fortiter et Recte! Alex Klaris ’06 President, Allen-Stevenson Alumni Council

Spring 2021

Like many of you, the Allen-Stevenson Alumni Council has also adjusted to virtual work and is serving our alumni community remotely. We have ensured that our alumni remain connected to our beloved school and one another through virtual class meetings and reunions, as well as seminars and events. Although we miss being together in person, this year has given us the unique opportunity of engaging with alumni across the globe in ways that we were not before, an opportunity that we have seized and will remain committed to going forward. We have brought alumni into the classroom with students and had them speak to our greater community.
