Our Year 10 students were a credit to the College as we were welcomed once again back to Yeshurun Hebrew Synagogue. We thank the students for their behaviour, respect and a tude. Yet again, Charles Bloom (and his assistant Dawn) was brilliant in giving us a snapshot of Jewish history in helping the students to be er comprehend the reason for a synagogue's existence, in general terms, and the artefacts that are central to Jewish worship. He encouraged volunteers and ques ons while helping the students to more fully appreciate why the Jewish faithful do the things they do, even though, ini ally appearing unusual; the wearing of the Tefillin is a prime example. However, once the students were be er familiarised with the importance of the Shema prayer and what they have been commanded to do, this prac ce becomes comprehensible. Charles has, rela vely recently, lost his wife of many years and our prayers go to him and his family. We can also look forward to a Year 9 trip in April; again, thanks to Charles Bloom. Mrs Su on
