A pAir of British rowers has become the first modern day, independent oarsmen to row nonstop from Agadir, Morocco to port St Charles in Barbados in their 23ft rowing boat Atlantic Calling. David Whiddon and lloyd Figgins have used the adventure to raise money for the rNli and are now the 20th pair to have rowed across the Atlantic east to west as part of the rowing challenge.

eNtrieS have started coming in for the international paint poole regatta 2012, being held 2-4 June. they include Martin pearson’s ruthless, overall winner in 2010, and Katie Miller’s international paint sponsored Figaro 2. the J24 class, which is holding its national championship as part of the event, is subsidising some entries and giving free entry to an all girl crew plus an under 21 crew. thANKS to a whole host of money raising efforts and generous donations the £1 million Cowes rNli lifeboat station appeal has now raised around £700,000, of which over £150,000 came from the island. More events are in the pipeline, including a supper and auction with Alan titchmarsh at the royal Yacht Squadron on 27 March. rNli Council member, richard Acland, is entering the london Marathon, raising £4,000 in sponsorship so far.
