Food, at its core, is beautifully simple. Good quality, whole ingredients can be transformed into something wild and magical when flavours collide. It awakens the senses, transports us through space and time, and turns the ordinary into the extraordinary. It taps into our deepest emotions and reminds us of who we are and how we love.
Choosing whole foods doesn’t mean going without. It means leaning in and getting curious. It means trading the processed and predictable for naturally delicious and playful. A chance to explore colour, texture, and flavour at their peak, alive with the taste of season and story.
A cut of meat you’ve never tried, a fruit rind you thought was trash, or a homemade sauce so good, it becomes your new signature. Cooking this way invites play and discovery, and it keeps your mind wildly aware and your connection to the natural world beautifully intact.

Jimmy Fallon is expanding his duties beyond the scope of hosting The Tonight Show by delving into the world of marketing with a new reality competition, On Brand with Jimmy Fallon.
“It’s got everything I dreamt of in a show,” Fallon gushed when interviewed by TV Insider about his new project, in which 10 contestants showcase their marketing skills while working for his made-for-TV On Brand Agency. At Fallon’s side is Bozoma Saint John, who is not only a member of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills cast, but has also headed up marketing efforts for such blockbuster brands as Netflix, Uber and PepsiCo.
Saint John describes the show’s premise as “a real-life Mad Men. Less political warfare, a lot of good, friendly competition.” Quipped Fallon, “I mean, I’m not as good-looking as Jon Hamm, but Boz makes up for that. It’s a love letter to ad agencies. We stick to the business more in this one. There’s drama. It’s funnier.”
Each week, contestants are tasked with creating marketing campaigns for major companies, including the likes of Dunkin’ and Southwest Airlines, and present what they’ve come up with to executives at that company.
As Fallon explained, these pitches don’t always go well, but he hinted that the failures can be more entertaining than the successes.
“My favourite part of American Idol is the bad auditions,” he said. “We have great ideas for these brands, but also some that don’t work, and they are hilarious. Episode one, the brand execs are looking at us like, ‘What’s happening?’ I was trying to hold in laughing.”
At the end of each episode, the two best ideas go head-to-head, with the winner then debuting in the real world, displayed in stores or on billboards. “We did a commercial with a sports celebrity, we wrapped a Southwest plane,” Fallon said. “We do big swings!”

It was a long, fraught journey for this soapy drama to make its way to the screen. Originally commissioned for cable network Starz, a corporate shakeup left the show without a home. But luckily, it was scooped up by Netflix in the U.S. (and Crave in Canada) and went on to become one of this past summer’s mostbinged series, with its tale of a young Bostonian (Brittany Snow) who moves to a small East Texas town and winds up getting stung by the local queen bee (Malin Akerman) and her hive of small-town, gun-toting ladies.
Per Tudum, following the show’s streaming debut, author May Cobb’s 2021 source-material novel shot back up to No. 4 on Amazon’s bestseller list.
All told, despite the calamity, things worked out for the best, as Starz had reportedly envisioned the show as a limited series, and now the sky’s the limit for the “East Texas town with secrets piled higher than a socialite’s hair on a humid day.”

It has been a few months since one of the entertainment programs indicated that a Knight Rider movie was in the works. As a huge fan of David Hasselhoff, I have just one question about this: what took so long?!
David Hasselhoff has an entry in the Guinness Book of World Records as the “most watched person on television,” and he was well on his way to that milestone before the role of Michael Knight and his smart-car “KITT” began fighting crime on the NBC action series that began in 1982 and ran through 1986. Starting in 1975, he was a regular on daytime soap The Young and the Restless, where he played Dr. “Snapper” Foster for seven full years. He answered the call for Knight Rider in ’82, and shorty after that series ended, he began his 11-year run on the beach in Baywatch. The Hoff even found time to become a recording artist, topping the pop music charts in Europe.
In March of 2002, Revolution Studios announced its intention to bring Knight Rider to the big screen, and fans were excited beyond belief. Time dragged on and the movie idea changed hands repeatedly with The Weinstein Company becoming involved in 2006 under its Miramax banner (promising a cameo by Hasselhoff). By 2016, the still-hypothetical film was set to star Chris Pratt, and most recently the team that did Cobra Kai was said to be pulling the creative strings.
Alas, after more than two decades, we still seem to be no closer to a Knight Rider flick.

In 2024, Cillian Murphy — already an accomplished actor on the big screen (28 Days Later) and the small (Peaky Blinders) — hit a new career high, nabbing an Oscar for Oppenheimer.
The Irishman’s latest film is another taut, characterdriven drama. And though it’s sporting a smaller budget than Oppenheimer (on account of not having to stage a nuclear explosion), it will reach a massive global audience on Netflix, following its acclaimed debut at TIFF earlier this month.
Steve casts Murphy as the head teacher at a U.K. reform school who, during one fateful day,
fights to keep his struggling institution afloat in a world that has little regard for its troubled students. Meanwhile, the titular educator struggles with his own mental health crisis.
With parents, aunts, uncles and grandparents who were teachers in real life, Murphy had plenty of tangible experience to draw upon here. “Imagine the toll it takes, running this experimental reform school with very challenging pupils,” he told The Hollywood Reporter. “And then you have to go home and look after your own children. It’s an extremely demanding profession.”

QThis is a show about three neighbours turned very unlikely detectives. What is it about sleuthing that tantalizes your character, Bex?
AShe is a really good example of one of those women who, once she got married and had children, her function in the world really changed. They moved to Marlow, away from London, because her husband had his calling to the priesthood. So she’s come away from the city into this smaller town, and she’s very much a pillar of society with being the vicar’s wife, but she’s bored as well. A side of her intellect and her curiosity and parts of her personality are just not being utilized. The opportunity to do something outside of her quite tedious domestic life is too good to pass up.
QSetting a mystery in a small town is very different than setting it in a big city. What’s the appeal?
A
There is a sort of historic knowing of each other in these small towns, which is just interesting to watch them unfold. I think the idea that there could

be devious, underhanded, murderous things happening in a small community with people that we have known since we were kids? It’s fun to watch, rather than this anonymous stranger.
Q This show is part of a subgenre that’s become known as the cozy mystery. “Cozy” isn’t a word you’d think would mesh well with murder . . .
AIt is curious that they go together, but they somehow do. There’s a sense that you’re watching something gruesome, but setting it amongst this beautiful, cozy town with these recognizable, sweet characters does make it palatable . . . Perhaps we’ve got audience members that would never dream of watching an out-and-out horror film; it allows them to experience those terrifying ideas without being so scared they don’t sleep at night.
Between record-breaking summer blockbuster Top Gun: Maverick and sleeper-hit romcom Anyone But You, Glen Powell is, without doubt, an actor on the rise. Now, the studly, affable Texan comes to the small screen.

And so, Russ does what any of us would do: eight years after his career hit its fourth down, he whips up an Undercover Boss-esque disguise, renames himself “Chad Powers” and enrols at a struggling Southern college.
It’s an experience that gives Russ a second chance to chase his dream . . . but also, a chance to become at least a little bit less of a terrible human being.
As Powell told The Hollywood Reporter, Russ is “an a**hole, the worst dude on the planet [until he] puts on the face of a good teammate and accidentally becomes a good teammate.” Indeed, his new persona

The show, not unlike Apple’s Emmywinning smash Ted Lasso, is based on a quick skit whipped up for ESPN, wherein real-life QB Eli Manning went incognito and walked on at Penn State. (Naturally, Eli and his equally legendary brother Peyton are producing this series as well.)
But it wasn’t Eli or Peyton that Powell based his performance on here. Rather, it was infamous Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel . . . a highly touted QB who, like Chad, was very talented yet deeply troubled. “We wanted Russ Holliday to be extremely likable,” Powell told THR, “but also a guy who represented a really fun, charismatic, wild character to watch that would give in to his best instincts on the football field and his worst instincts off the field.”

I care about whether or not they turn the boat over. I want to watch them clean the bathrooms and stuff. That’s what I’m into . . . I don’t get it with reality shows where everyone sits around and there’s no job, they just go to dinner. That gets me very stressed.”
Meanwhile, Rogen told Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen: “I think the moral of Below Deck is, if you rent a yacht, you’re a douchebag. A huge piece of garbage. The agony and the ecstasy of polygamy rage on for a 20th season. The past few instalments of this TLC staple have seen Kody Brown’s clan fragment as never before, and this year doesn’t offer any shelter from the storm.
Per TLC’s press release: “In the wake of multiple breakups, the family faces major turning points. Christine and David are settling into married life, but Christine is shaken when her kids begin moving to North Carolina near Janelle,

While the notion of a white guy portraying an Indian is toxic today, nobody batted an eye in 1968 when Peter Sellers portrayed a bumbling Indian actor who’s fired from a film when he accidentally destroys the set. Due to a misunderstanding, he’s instead invited to a swinging Hollywood bash. ★★★

Before his tragic death at age 24, James Dean only starred in three movies — all of which can be seen backto-back today on TCM. This acclaimed adaptation of John Steinbeck’s novel is followed by the teen-angst classic Rebel Without a Cause at 8 p.m., and then his final film, Giant, at 10 p.m. ★★★★

Paul Newman stars in Alfred Hitchcock’s Cold War thriller about an American scientist who defects to East Germany. Pulled from theatres over fears it would incite teen audiences to riot, this 1979 “lost classic” about rebellious youth gone wild in suburban San Francisco was never widely released, instead relegated to art-house cinemas. Place a number in the empty boxes in such a way that each row across, each column down and each small 9-box square contains all of the numbers from one to nine.
The idea of Go Figure is to arrive at the fi gures given at the bottom and right-hand columns of the diagram by following the arithmetic signs in the order the are given (that is, from left to right and top to bottom). Use only the numbers below the diagram to complete its blank squares and use each of the nine numbers only once.

TV Stations regularly promote their shows on their channel, and will refer to show times in their specific time zone. For example, a station that is located in the east may only promote their program in eastern time. Also, sometimes U.S. Stations will promote programs on their affiliate stations that are not available in Canada. These types of promo ads may conflict with the listings in TV Week because we list programs in our Pacific Time Zone on stations available only in our market area. that serial killers have become a staple of television crime dramas. From the “unsubs” of Criminal Minds to the maniacs dispatched by serial killer-dispatching murderer Dexter Morgan, viewers have a seemingly insatiable appetite for homicidal maniacs.
learned that “the butcher of Plainfield” (as the press dubbed him) had been ritually skinning his victims in order to make a suit out of human skin.
Gein’s name may not be familiar, but his crimes certainly are, providing the inspiration for Norman Bates in Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho, Jame “Buffalo Bill” Gumm in Silence of the Lambs and Leatherface in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Interestingly, Gein’s influence on Hitchcock — played in Monster by Tom Hollander (who
Producer Ryan Murphy (whose numerous series range from 9-1-1 and its sequels to American Horror Story) has tapped into the topic with the Netflix anthology series Monster, dramatizing the story of Jeffrey Dahmer in the first season, and the infamous Menendez brothers in the second. For the third season, arriving this week, Monster journeys back even further to explore one of America’s most infamous serial killers, Ed Gein Gein — played in the series by former Sons of Anarchy star Charlie Hunnam — hailed from Plainfield, Wisconsin. He became notorious after his 1957 capture, when the public
recently portrayed Truman Capote in the latest season of Murphy’s Feud series) — becomes part of the season’s narrative. “There’s something about this story that has really echoed down the ages,” Monster co-creator Ian Brennan tells Netflix’s Tudum. Despite having his heinous crimes repeatedly dramatized onscreen, Gein himself isn’t a widely known figure. “[Gein] is probably one of the most influential people of the 20th century, and yet people don’t know that much about him,” Murphy says. “He influenced some of the biggest serial killers of the 20th century — which is another thing that I think people did
not and do not know about him — Ted Bundy, and on and on and on.”
According to Brennan — who wrote every episode in the season — that was a key reason why he felt compelled to tell Gein’s story. “Ed Gein’s fairly obscure,” he says. “It’s this man who lived in a farmhouse and didn’t know very many people, and you’re watching his descent into deep, deep madness and then ultimately into killing people.”
When it came to casting Gein, Hunnam appeared on Murphy’s radar via an unlikely source. “I saw a paparazzi photograph of [Hunnam] somewhere and I was like, ‘Oh, he seems haunted.’ There was something very Ed about him on that day,” Murphy says, prompting Hunnam to deadpan, “I must have been having a bad day.”
When Hunnam began researching Gein, he was surprised by the superficiality of what he found. “I read every book that’s been written on Ed Gein, and I didn’t
find many of them very useful, to be honest,” Hunnam says. “They were all sort of grossly sensationalist — these grotesque, impossibly bleak pieces of writing.”
Ultimately, Hunnam hit pay dirt when he came across a rare find. “I was able to get access to the only known recording of Ed Gein, which was made two days after he
was arrested,” Hunnam reveals.
“It’s about an hour-and-10-minute interview with him, while he’s in custody. A lot of the musicality, and his inflection, and his choice of words, and where his energy sat, I was able to extract from it . . . I wanted to get as close as possible to who Ed was, to do him justice, and for this thing to feel authentic.”
“Ed Gein’s fairly obscure. It’s this man who lived in a farmhouse and didn’t know very many people, and you’re watching his descent into deep, deep madness and then ultimately into killing people.”
“The thesis statement of every season is: are monsters born or are they made?” Murphy points out. “I think in Ed’s case, it’s probably a little of both.”
To illustrate this, the series delves into Gein’s twisted relationship with his domineering mother, played by Laurie Metcalf. “I learned a lot from her and I really value getting to work with her on this,” Hunnam adds.
Ultimately, Brennan is confident that the new season will prove satisfying to fans of the series. “I think this is the best season of the three,” he says, “and I think it’s going to blow people’s socks off.” ■
Jessica Chastain stars as an operative who goes undercover to infilrate hate groups online, preventing extremist acts of violence before they happen
ODI GOODWIN is a suburban mom with a job so nebulous even her own children can’t describe it. “We think she’s in the CIA,” jokes Jodi’s teenage daughter, but even she is convinced what her mother does behind locked doors, in a shed in the garden, is “boring tech stuff.” The truth about Jodi, a former U.S. Marine and police officer who now spends most of her time in a
virtual reality, is that she is attempting to prevent hate-fuelled acts of domestic terrorism before they happen.
When Jessica Chastain came across Andrea Stanley’s article in Cosmopolitan about a woman living in an undisclosed location in the U.S., infiltrating online chat rooms to identify plots of violence by pretending to be one of the perpetrators, the Academy
Award-winner was immediately intrigued. “I was moved that these people existed,” says Chastain. “I didn’t know that there was a group of people that work behind the scenes and spend so much of their time infiltrating these hate groups, adapting these avatars and working almost like an undercover cop to stop plots of violence from happening. It gave me a lot of hope,
and it made me feel safer. How many acts of violence would’ve happened had they not been there protecting us?”
As both star and producer of the tense eight-episode series, Chastain was able to meet with the real-life Jodi. “I was giving her a lot of compliments and thanking her for her service, and she was brushing everything off,” recalls Chastain. “Every time I tried to bestow
on her admiration, she was like, ‘Oh, it’s not a big deal, what I do.’ I realized that is very important for Jodi. She doesn’t want to be called the Savant, and she doesn’t want to understand the weight of what she does. She doesn’t want to live in it, she just wants to do it. She doesn’t want to talk about the changes she’s making. She just wants to move forward and help people. I took away that [from meeting her].”
The truth, of course, is that pretending to be a white supremacist is emotionally taxing. Onscreen, at least, the secrecy has consequences, not just for Jodi — who worries for the safety of her colleagues and her family — but for her children, who start acting out after subconsciously absorbing some of the stress. For Chastain, it wasn’t hard to understand the toll the work takes on her character.
“Jodi’s work is very similar to what we do as actors, where we have to put on an avatar of a person who has completely different beliefs than us, oftentimes, and try to think how they would navigate in the world,” says Chastain. “It’s really important
“I was moved that these people existed. I didn’t know that there was a group of people that work behind the scenes and spend so much of their time infiltrating these hate groups, working almost like an undercover cop to stop plots of violence from happening.”
to have a separation. It’s difficult for me because, when I’m acting, it affects me and I know it costs me something. When I am working on a complex, dark character, someone exposed to a lot of trauma, there is
an emotional cost. For Jodi, she’s been playing this avatar for 10 years. At a certain point it’s like, where does she end and where does the avatar begin?”
As the adults on set, Chastain and her co-star Nnamdi Asomugha, who plays Jodi’s Army medic husband Charlie, tried to be protective of actors Trinity Lee Shirley and Toussaint Francois Battiste, who play their children. But it was their two young co-stars who ended up teaching them about compartmentalization.
“I underestimated how helpful the kids would be,” says Chastain. “A lot of the scenes the kids did had some heavy stuff that they had to do, and I was nervous about it. We were always aware of them, like, ‘Are they OK?’ if there was a line that they were saying that was very heavy. But the moment you say cut, they’re out of it and they’re off doing something else, and then we started to get out of it. It helped us to not be so heavy on set.”
While the show highlights how easy it is to spread hate these days, especially with the internet as an amplifier, Chastain believes The Savant serves as proof that there is more in life to be optimistic about than the opposite. “Let’s focus on the people that are helping,” she says. “Yes, there is a lot of hate, but I do think, actually, that there’s more love than there is hate. Sometimes you see comments that just feel so horrible and hate-filled, but then you go, ‘OK, well how many is that? And why does that, even though it’s a small amount, affect me more than the comments that are loving?’ I think we just have to turn our focus, because I do think we’re inherently good. And there are people out there making great sacrifices, like Jodi.” ■
The ever-shifting media landscape brings about big changes in the fourth season of The Morning Show
As has been the case in the previous seasons, The Morning Show left certain characters painted into a tight corner while for others the sky became the limit at the end of its third season. Bradley Jackson (Reese Witherspoon) was mere seconds away from turning herself in to the FBI for redacting news footage from the January 6 insurrection, in an attempt to save her brother from arrest, while Alex Levy (Jennifer Aniston) managed to facilitate a last-minute merger between networks NBN and UBA — a union of equals, so to speak — derailing the plans of her scheming love interest, billionaire Paul Marks (Jon Hamm), to acquire UBA.
Two years after the dramatic finale, is this new mega-network largely run by women the solution everyone hoped it would be? “There’s never an answer there, there are always more questions,”
teases showrunner Charlotte Stoudt. “I think the women gaining power sits very neatly against the overall question of the show, which is: At what point do you lose your humanity in pursuit of your ambition? That’s always the tension of the show, truth and capital versus capitalism, ambition versus humanity. Now it’s time for these
women to be careful what they asked for.”
Life is no less complicated for Bradley, who is still paying the price for her professional digressions. “At the beginning of this season, you don’t know where she is,” teases Witherspoon. “She’s not at the network anymore, and that’s basically all I can say. This is the first time you’ve seen her feeling a little cowardly and quiet, which was fun to play — vulnerable and a little stepped on.” Her relationship with Alex is also not as supportive as where we left it. “I’ve taken over this leadership role and I’m trying to see the bigger picture: Is this going to be a good thing for the network?” adds Aniston. “And she’s always doing something where you just don’t know what’s going to happen, because she’s a wild card. But we always come back. It’s a love story between friends, ultimately.”
Having become known for tackling current news as it happens, the series’ writers this year grapple with the use of artificial intelligence in news, as well as themes of diversity, equity and inclusion.
Taking on a topical subject matter and hoping that it is still relevant a year later is not for the faint of heart. “There is some stress,” admits Stoudt. “You’re always worried you are going to miss something and we can’t chase the headlines because the show takes so long to make and edit. But these topics are resonant
“I think the women gaining power sits very neatly against the overall question of the show, which is: At what point do you lose your humanity in pursuit of your ambition? That’s always the tension of the show, truth and capital versus capitalism, ambition versus humanity. Now it’s time for these women to be careful what they asked for.”
for many, many years. They’re the maze we haven’t figured our way out of, whether it be the reproductive rights of women, systemic, institutional racism and AI. We are not going to solve these questions anytime soon, so it’s a good time to wrestle with them.”
Stoudt and her writers always approach these themes with a character-first attitude. “Stella (Greta
Lee) is a character who came out of the tech world, so it makes sense for her to be very interested in AI and what it could do for a news network,” says Stoudt. “But, underneath, Stella is a divided person. She’s doing things she shouldn’t be, and she’s trying to reckon with herself. And the AI becomes her mirror in which to do that. And she may not be the fairest of them all when she looks in the mirror.”
This season the cast is joined by Academy Award winner Marion Cotillard as Celine Dumont, who runs the new network alongside Alex and Stella. “When I knew the women would be finally running the C-suite, and I imagined a new character from the rival network, I kept thinking, ‘This is somebody with a foreign accent,’” says Stoudt. “I had a feeling that maybe she has some malapropisms and is a little bit different in terms of her femininity. Then we found out that Marion was a superfan of the show, and once
she came onboard she talked about some of the dynastic families in France, and how often when power is passed down in those families, it always goes to the son. I said, ‘Oh, I see who this character is and what might be driving her. She’s rebelling against her family, but part of her is still wondering, ‘Hey dad, can you pass the crown to me?’”
With its breakneck-paced storytelling and A-list talent, those behind the scenes feel The Morning Show has really hit its stride in the past few seasons. “I think the first two seasons were fantastic, and when Charlotte came on, she upped the game with her writing, really going deep into trust and power,” says executive producer and director Mimi Leder. “Especially this season it’s, ‘Who can you trust? What is the truth?’ The world is evolving every second, and I think Charlotte and all of us feel it’s very important to have it reflected in our characters’ journeys.” ■
Monday, Hayu
pop-culture institution that’s not just made in America, but has become emblematic of America itself, the Real Housewives franchise has, nonetheless, crossed borders several times over the years — planting its flag on countries from South Africa to Australia to our very own home and native land. The latest colony this unstoppable reality empire has conquered is London, England. Premiering in August, and still right in the midst of its inaugural season, The Real Housewives of London is the very first original series produced by reality-centric streamer Hayu. It’s a show that follows six fabulous and ferocious women from all across the globe who have settled in the U.K. capital to build a life and make their fortune.
Those Housewives include:
Juliet Angus: A Chicago-born influencer, global brand partner, stylist and former fashion publicist.
Amanda Cronin: A former model turned entrepreneur and mother to a 27-year-old artist daughter.
Karen Loderick-Peace: A Jamaicanborn fashion entrepreneur who moved to the U.K. in her 20s and has since started a flourishing family.
Juliet Mayhew: An Australian former Miss Galaxy Universe pageant winner who now devotes her days to philanthropy.
Panthea Parker: A high-society mover and shaker from Iran.
Nessie Welschinger: A born-and-bred Londoner who cools her heels at a 500-year-old estate and presides over a catering business that counts the Royal Family among its clients.
TV Week recently got the chance to speak with the cast about what it’s like to live life to the fullest, wartsand-all, on-camera — while offering viewers across the globe a fresh take on the storied city of London.
TV WEEK: Did any of you have reservations about opening yourself and your loved ones up to the world like this?
JULIET M: You have to make a decision together as a family, and I certainly did that. I had to make sure my whole family was on the same page . . . My daughter’s chosen not to be on the show, but she completely backs me. You’re putting yourself out there and it’s a big decision to make. But I think we’ve all made the decision for the right reasons.
TV WEEK: How is a Housewives show in London different from one of the myriad American versions?
AMANDA: I think it’s just brilliant. It’s very authentic to London and the U.K. and we’re such a different country to any country in the world. The best, biggest, most important city in the world. I think you’re seeing the culture, the beauty, the history — we’re showing it. And the women are so different to any country in the world. You know, we’re Londoners, whether we were born here or we came here. We are London. And we love the city. We’re true Brits and I think the British woman is a certain type of woman.
NESSIE: She’s strong, she’s dynamic.
JULIET A: And London’s our seventh character!
TV WEEK: On that front, just how does the city factor into the show’s drama and intrigue?
KAREN: London is a place that makes or breaks you. [The show is] us, living in London, surviving London and being independent, strong women.
TV WEEK: Will the London we see in this show be different from the London we’ve seen portrayed elsewhere?
NESSIE: We’re bringing the authenticity, let me tell you.
JULIET A: You’re getting every little neighbourhood. You get to see a taste of what it’s really like to live here.
NESSIE: I think you see [the various landmarks] as these great sites, but we live next to them, so we see them every day. It’s a natural part of life.
JULIET A: Like, when I’m driving to dinner from my house, I go past Buckingham Palace . . .
TV WEEK: Does having cameras around constantly, as intrusive as that can be, force you to sort through interpersonal issues in a way that you wouldn’t have to if those cameras weren’t there?
PANTHEA: Yeah, in my real life, if I have arguments with people, I drop them on Instagram. It’s fine. You never

have to talk to them again. And I think that, definitely, when the cameras are on, you do have to bring things to the table — however petty they are.
TV WEEK: Would you say that this cast is a reflection of the city itself?
NESSIE: I think we all bring the flavour. We come from different backgrounds and cultures, and I think that is absolutely in line with what London’s about.
AMANDA: We’re at the forefront. You know, if you don’t live in London . . . it’s at the epicentre of everything going on in culture, in music and fashion.
KAREN: It’s a city of the creatives.
AMANDA: Very fluid.
PANTHEA: We, once upon a time, ruled the world . . .
JULIET M: . . .and shall again! ■

STARRING: Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, Benicio del Toro, Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor
In the latest from director Paul Thomas Anderson (Magnolia, There Will Be Blood ), Leonardo DiCaprio stars as a former member of a group of 1960s revolutionaries, who reunite, 16 years after disbanding, when an enemy from the past — white nationalist leader Steve Lockjaw (Sean Penn) — resurfaces and kidnaps his daughter (Chase Infiniti, making her screen debut). Beyond that, details about the plot are scarce, although Anderson (who also wrote the script) was inspired by Thomas Pynchon’s 1990 novel Vineland, and the film has been described as blending political satire, black comedy and action-adventure. What is known is that this is the most expensive film Anderson has ever made, with a reported budget of US$130 million.
STARRING: June Squibb, Erin Kellyman, Jessica Hecht, Chiwetel Ejiofor Scarlett Johansson makes her directorial debut with this drama about a nonagenarian widow named Eleanor (95-year-old June Squibb). After the death of her longtime friend, with whom she’d shared a Florida apartment in retirement, she returns to New York City to live with her daughter (Jessica Hecht). There, Eleanor meets a young journalism student (Erin Kellyman), forging an offbeat friendship.
Emma Thompson,
In the midst of a blizzard, a grief-stricken widow (Emma Thompson) gets lost in the backroads of Minnesota, and stops for help at a remote cabin in the woods. She discovers a young woman (Laurel Marsden) who’s been kidnapped by a desperate couple (Judy Greer and Marc Menchaca), armed and intent on murder. Realizing she is the woman’s only hope of survival, she transforms into an unlikely hero.

QSeason four saw Sunny lose his partner, Cassie (Nicola Walker), who meant so much to him. Season five was about him grieving and also adjusting to a new partner, Jess (Sinéad Keenan). Are Sunny and Jess any closer in season six to becoming what Sunny and Cassie were?
AHe certainly recognizes that she will never be Cassie; I think that was an important move forward for him emotionally. By the end of season five, I think they’d found some connection, they’d opened up to each other — which neither of them were prone to do. Going into season six, they kind of trust each other, although they still keep some of their personal life away from each other. In that sense, their working relationship has definitely improved a lot — and their personal relationship, on that basis, has improved. But I’m not sure they’ve got to the stage of being “friends” yet.
Q What is it about Unforgotten that stands out in this very crowded genre?
A From what [fans] have said to me, first of all you had — and still have — a central male-female partnership that doesn’t have romantic overtones to it; that’s usually the way that these things head in order to create tension among the characters. And the other thing is, I don’t think the cops are set up as heroic. You know, the story is very much filled with empathy — empathy for the cops, but also empathy for the accused and for the deceased . . . It’s a show about fairly regular people who
After leaving behind a career in marketing, this native of Middlesex, England, got his showbiz break in the ’90s doing sketch comedy on BBC’s Goodness Gracious Me From there, he went on to star in groundbreaking sitcom The Kumars at No. 42 — while also racking up appearances in hit films like Notting Hill, Yesterday, The Flash and the much-loved Paddington franchise.
did one terrible thing. It was one mistake. There isn’t a plethora of serial killers on the loose . . . There are no car chases and no guns — the tension comes from a slowly closing noose around these people who, hopefully, we’re invested enough to want to know what happens to them.
QDo you think your background in comedy informs your acting — even in a very dark, very dramatic project like this?
A Definitely. I mean, when you’re doing a scene, whether it’s a dramatic scene or a comedic one, you are looking for beats, you’re looking for rhythms . . . you’re looking for all that kind of stuff. And the interesting thing about comedy is that it’s almost impossible to teach — because so much of it is about timing. The funniest thing in a sentence may be the pause. If the pause is a millisecond too slow, it’s not funny. If it’s a millisecond too fast, it’s not
Since 2015, Sanjeev Bhaskar’s proverbial day job has been on Unforgotten playing Sunny Khan, a Met Police detective who specializes in cold cases. Wrapping this week, season six has found Sunny and new partner Jess James (Sinéad Keenan) dredging up the truth behind some peculiar bones found rotting in an East London marsh.
funny. It’s like hitting the sweet spot on a tennis racquet. That’s impossible to teach. And it’s interesting to me that everyone that has been cast across all the seasons [of Unforgotten] can do comedy. They can find a lightness in a scene or in a sentence — and, equally, they’re very good at spotting where the dramatic beats are.
Q You and Nicola are, of course, still friends. Have you spoken to her at all about the show since she left?
A You know what, it’s the one topic we haven’t really talked about. I haven’t asked her if she’s watched it, she hasn’t told me if she’s watched it. We have other things to talk about. In a sense, I think we’re both studiously avoiding talking about it. I don’t want to hear her say she liked it or hated it, and I don’t really want to hear her say she doesn’t watch it. It’s easier for me to live in a slightly fantasy world where she’s watched it and loves it.
They are like very tiny powerplants that produce energy in every living cell of our bodies. On average, every cell has 1,500 mitochondria. Can you imagine that for their extremely small size, it’s been said that they produce, gram for gram, 10,000–50,000 times more energy than the sun?
To say that mitochondria are important to human health is grossly understating their role in our
survival. We literally would not be alive without them. They convert our food into energy, so that every other function of our body can occur as it needs to. As we age, our ability to create healthy mitochondria to support our energy demands diminishes. And because about 90% of our cellular energy is produced by mitochondria, this decline can cause significant health issues
