Eddie Murphy was 19 when he exploded on Saturday Night Live, single-handedly rescuing the show during its worst season. Since then, he’s become one of Hollywood’s biggest comedy stars, his films generating $6.7 billion at the box office.
Of course, that doesn’t count his other pursuits, such as standup comedy (his 1983 special Delirious remains a classic) and his unexpected success on the pop charts (his 1985 single “Party All the Time” peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard charts).
Yet despite four-plus decades of public visibility, Murphy has remained a somewhat elusive figure, keeping a tight lid on his personal life — until now, with the release of Being Eddie, a candid documentary from director Angus Wall.
“Eddie’s somebody that he feels he’s known who he is from the beginning. He’s been on a path of destiny since he was a kid. He is an artist where he can express himself through many different ways, not just through comedy or acting, but through music and all these different things.” Wall told USA Today “He’s just got an incredibly flexible mind and spirit. His openness was really refreshing and kind of surprising.”
Wall began working on the film in 2019, and was granted “unprecedented access” when Murphy returned to SNL as host that year. “We filmed in [Lorne Michaels’] office, which nobody’s ever done and nobody may ever do again,” Wall recalled.
Interestingly, the pandemic the following year presented Wall with a rare opportunity to have numerous “open and vulnerable” conversations with Murphy at his home, each lasting four hours. “To me, the movie feels like those conversations; it feels like hanging out with him,” Wall added. “Eddie is such an icon and he’s such a legend, but he’s also one of the world’s most interesting people. He’s just such a unicorn of a human being.”

While promoting his Boss biopic Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere in a chat with Vogue, star Jeremy Allen White divulged that season five of his Emmy-magnet kitchen dramedy hasn’t even begun filming yet. Speculation is that production will start in December, which means we’re likely in for a higher-than-usual wait time. The show’s first four seasons all debuted in June on U.S. streamer Hulu (though sometimes a little later on Canadian streamer Disney+). That will almost certainly not be the case for season five, but The Bear is still projected to return before the end of 2026.

After a lengthy slumber, Interview With the Vampire will return to AMC in 2026 with a new title and the not-so-dearly-departed Lestat (Sam Reid) back in the limelight, as the sexy ghoul reinvents himself as a rock star.
I’ve been liking Talamasca OK so far, but what’s going on with the original Interview With the Vampire? R.O., West Vancouver As AMC’s “Immortal Universe” expands thanks to spinoffs Mayfair Witches and Talamasca: The Secret Order, it’s been a good long while since we checked in on the series that sired them all. Interview With the Vampire wrapped season two way back in June of 2024, which
could be taken as a troubling omen. Yet as fans of vamp fiction well know, the most iconic bloodsuckers only play dead before rising from the grave to wreak more havoc. That’s the case here, as Louis, Lestat et al. will return in 2026 (exact date still TBD). That said, the show will have a new name
Given that the second season reached the end of Anne Rice’s first “Vampire Chronicles” novel, producers have decided that, moving forward, they’ll also retitle the show after Rice’s second novel, The Vampire Lestat

Largely absent from season two, the seductive and ferocious Lestat (Sam Reid) literally takes centre stage in season three, as we follow him on tour with his rock band. At the same time, he and Louis (Jacob Anderson) struggle to reach a détente after their immortal uncoupling, even as newly undead journalist Daniel Molloy’s book about their centuries-spanning exploits sparks controversy among humans and vamps alike — not to mention a bidding war in Hollywood.
We’ll also dig deeper into Lestat’s origins. On that front, Jennifer Ehle (Lioness) joins the cast as Gabriella, the woman who gave birth to Lestat and whom Lestat turned into a vampire. Indeed, “mommy issues” doesn’t even begin to describe their fraught dynamic. “She creates chaos. She thrives in creating it,” said Ehle at New York Comic-Con (via First Comics News). “She’s had so little agency in her life. She was married at 15 to somebody she didn’t choose, and it was horrible. She had no hope. But she had this boy

Since the passing of Robert Redford earlier this year, I have become enthralled with all of his past work and have been committed to seeing everything he did on screen. I seem to recall his movie Barefoot in the Park was also made into a TV show?
L.U., Squamish
Redford starred alongside Jane Fonda in this 1967 picture, which was based on a Neil Simon play from 1963. It was a rom-com about the challenges and foibles of a young couple, Corie and Paul, who lived in New York’s Greenwich Village — barely balancing his conservative outlook with her free spirit.
It did indeed become a TV comedy in 1970 on ABC, but instead of Redford and Fonda, the two main characters were played by Scoey Mitchell and Tracy Reed — who led a primarily AfricanAmerican cast. The series did not do well in the ratings, and it was further complicated by challenges with Mitchell, who did not get on well with the producers and was fired after just 12 episodes. Rather than recast the role, ABC simply decided to cancel the show halfway through that first season. The completed episodes were later rerun as instalments of anthology series Love, American Style
Redford may not have appeared on the smallscreen version of Barefoot in the Park, but if you do want to complete your binge with some of his early TV work, might I recommend the Twilight Zone episode “Nothing in the Dark” from 1962? It’s about an elderly woman (Gladys Cooper) locked in a years-long battle with Death itself, and the young police officer (Redford) who arrives on her doorstep to turn the tide.

Having established her cred in the horror genre with 2022 debut feature Huesera: The Bone Woman, Mexican writer-director Michelle Garza Cervera returns with a follow-up that ditches the supernatural, but retains the dread-soaked chills: a remake of 1992 thriller The Hand That Rocks the Cradle. Stepping in for original stars Annabella Sciorra and Rebecca De Mornay are two actors who’ve starred in some genre classics of their own: Mary Elizabeth Winstead (10 Cloverfield Lane) and Maika Monroe (It Follows). Winstead plays Caitlin, an overworked
attorney and mother-of-two, who “randomly” bumps into former client Polly (Monroe) at a farmers’ market one day. Hitting it off straight away (and in dire need of an extra pair of hands around the house), Caitlin and husband Miguel (Raúl Castillo) hire her on as their nanny. At first, she’s the answer to their prayers — bonding with the kids and even serving as a confidante for Caitlin amidst the many, unending pressures of work and family.
Yet Polly is hiding a twisted past — one that’s driven the girl to target Caitlin and insidiously take control of her happy home.
Taking the baton from The Hand That Rocks the Cradle, this new series stars David Duchovny and Game of Thrones “Red Witch” Carice van Houten as Jamie and Nat Tanner, a London couple who, on holiday in Greece with their family, cross paths with a lovely young tutor named Adam (played by comedian Jack Whitehall). When the time comes for the Tanners to head home, Adam gets himself a job as the
full-time nanny for their kids. Little do the Tanners know, beneath their new friend’s charming disposition lies a black heart — one that beats only for revenge. As Whitehall teased in a release: “Moving from comedy to playing a character so deliciously dark and complex was exhilarating; Adam is the kind of character who makes you question everything — he’s charming and funny one moment and absolutely chilling the next.”
This week, Hallorann uses his “shine” to catch a glimpse of the ancient evil that calls Derry home; alas, it catches a glimpse of him, too. Elsewhere, on a similar mission, the new-look Losers Club holds a séance in the graveyard.

In this Canadian flick, three estranged sisters (led by Corner Gas deputy Tara Spencer-Nairn) gather at their parents’ anniversary, only for dad (Art Hindle) to reveal he’s got terminal cancer. Alas, the old man’s dream of one last perfect weekend with his girls instead becomes a “whirlwind of family secrets and conflict.”

Emmy winners Claire Danes (Homeland ) and Matthew Rhys (The Americans) have both been at the vanguard of this current golden age of TV. Now, they unite for another prestige thriller, and it’s fitting that both actors landed their Emmys for shows set in the world of espionage, because even though The Beast in Me isn’t a spy drama, it does centre on two people engaged in an unpredictable psychological chess match.
Danes plays Aggie Wiggs, a celebrated author who was left haunted, angry and altogether stuck in life, after the death of her son at the hands of an unpunished drunk driver years ago. It’s a tragedy that destroyed her marriage and paralyzed her writing career. But that starts to change when the notorious Nile Jarvis (Rhys) moves into her sleepy little town. Nile is a real estate mogul who’s been branded a wife killer, even though his late spouse’s passing was ruled a suicide.
At first, Aggie despises her new neighbour. He’s arrogant, aggressive and tactless . . . yet also undeniably
engaging. Against the odds, they forge an uneasy bond — which leads our heroine to believe she may have found the subject of her next bestseller. As she grows closer to the man — and waffles on whether he’s a monster or just misunderstood — Aggie can’t help but wonder if she’ll finish her book before Nile finishes her. What’s more, she’ll have to stare down some dark truths about her own inner animal.
The rest of the players in this game of cat-and-mouse include Better Call Saul’s Jonathan Banks as Nile’s tyrannical father/boss; Tim Guinee (The Good Wife) as his ex-con uncle, the family enforcer; David Lyons (ER) as a bottoming-out FBI agent whose mission to bring Nile to justice has curdled into a vendetta; and The Hunting Wives’ Brittany Snow as Nile’s sunny yet sly second wife. Meanwhile, in charge behind the camera is Danes’ old Homeland creator Howard Gordon.

After wining, dining, scratching and clawing her way to the peak of high society, shameless striver Maxine Dellacorte-Simmons (Kristen Wiig) is once again fighting for the approval of the ladies who lord over 1960s Palm Beach — forced to pick up the shattered remains of her reputation after a show-stopping, tea-spilling musical performance at the Palm Royale country club in season one’s cliffhanger-heavy finale.
Per Apple’s season-two summary: “Maxine is left a social pariah after a scandalous public breakdown. She’ll have to draw on her deep well of cleverness and cunning to prove, once and for all, that not only does she belong, but she just might have what it takes to rule this town. Along the way, she will uncover untold truths and finally understand what this town is truly built on . . . secrets, lies and the occasional felony.”
Max’s returning frenemies include Allison Janney as Evelyn Rollins, the sting-happy queen bee of Palm Beach; Laura Dern (also a producer on the
Wednesday, Apple TV
show) as hard-charging feminist Linda Shaw; and the great Carol Burnett as Max’s wealthy, not-quite-what-sheseems aunt-in-law, Norma. Meanwhile, joining the fray this year are Broadway great Patti LuPone, Full House alum John Stamos and, in the season’s true casting coup, Burnett’s old sketch partner Vicki Lawrence.
Amidst all the betrayals, affairs and faux pas to come, expect the Emmynominated Wiig to continue anchoring the soapy intrigue with a selfish, cringeinducing antihero who can’t help but capture your heart. As the actress told The Hollywood Reporter in reflecting on season one: “It was trying to find that balance for her of, on paper, being a little unlikable for what she’s wanting and what she goes through to get what she wants. But at the same time, you want to root for her . . . you see that she’s lacking in other areas and just wanting that acceptance.”

He’s been a perennial Emmy fave over the years, winning three Comedy trophies for Monk and one for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. But next time awards season rolls around, Tony Shalhoub is primed to contend in a whole new category: Nonfiction.
Boldly dispensing with the protective shell of a character, the actor has shown audiences his true self via CNN’s latest culinary travelogue, wherein he explores the delectable nuances of various cultures using that simplest, most universal of food staples — bread — as his way in.
The series wraps season one tonight with back-to-back episodes. First, Shalhoub heads for Tokyo to explore the “unknown world of Japanese breads.” Then, it’s off to Iceland for some dough cooked in a volcano.
All told, the project has been a challenging yet fulfilling experience for a man who’s accustomed to being on camera . . . just not as himself. As Shalhoub told CNN in an interview: “That was one of the most startling things about it, was that ‘unscripted’

is much harder for me personally . . . Maybe that’s why I became an actor to begin with, is that people just tell me what to do. ‘Say this, stand here, make this face.’ ”
That sense of uncertainty extended beyond the host, to the entire production . . . and Breaking Bread ended up all the richer for it. “It kind of surpassed our expectations, to be honest,” Shalhoub continued. “We had a framework that we wanted to work within, but — and I’m loathe to confess this because I don’t necessarily want the CNN people to know this and now they will — but we really didn’t know what the show was going to be about. We had to go on faith or on hope that it was going to take on a life of its own and become something that we hadn’t necessarily planned on. And then that’s kind of how it turned out.”

The idea of Go Figure is to arrive at the fi gures given at the bottom and right-hand columns of the diagram by following the arithmetic signs in the order the are given (that is, from left to right and top to bottom). Use only the numbers below the diagram to complete its blank squares and use each of the nine numbers only once.

TV Stations regularly promote their shows on their channel, and will refer to show times in their specific time zone. For example, a station that is located in the east may only promote their program in eastern time. Also, sometimes U.S. Stations will promote programs on their affiliate stations that are not available in Canada. These types of promo ads may conflict with the listings in TV Week because we list programs in our Pacific Time Zone on stations available only in our market area. Therefore, please follow the listings in TV Week for correct listings information.
Thank You – The TV Week team.

As a former animator for Pixar, Alex Woo’s résumé is as impressive as it comes, including work on such hit films as Ratatouille, WALL-E, Finding Dory and Incredibles 2. Now, Woo makes his directorial debut with In Your Dreams, an animated fantasy adventure with a powerful message, following a pair of siblings on a fantastical journey to fix their family.
When 12-year-old Stevie (voiced by Jolie Hoang-Rappaport) and her
A young girl and her little brother try to fix their family by venturing into the realm of dreams in this animated adventure
younger brother, Elliot (Elias Janssen), discover a magical picture book that says the Sandman can make any dream a reality, they embark on a life-affirming journey into the realm of dreams in order to track down the mythical figure. Longing to make their family perfect, the duo urgently wish for it to come true.
“One of my favourite things to do as a kid was to wake my brother up in the middle of the night and annoy him with accounts of my weird and crazy dreams,” Woo told Netflix’s Tudum. “When I had the opportunity to make my first feature film, I knew exactly what it was going to be about.”
Woo, who co-wrote and co-directed In Your Dreams with fellow Pixar alum Erik Benson, was thrilled when his freshman film attracted some top talent, including Simu Liu and Cristin Miloti as the siblings’ parents, Gia Carides as Nightmare, Omid Djalili as the Sandman, and The Office alum Craig Robinson as a sarcastic stuffed giraffe named Baloney Tony.
At its core, the movie “is about the power of dreams and especially the power of dreaming together,” Woo explained. “When I started this film, I set out to tell a heartfelt story that explored the magical and often hilariously absurd world of dreams,” Woo continued. “What I didn’t expect was how memorable and emotional the performances were going to be. I guess that’s what happens when you’re lucky enough to have Simu Liu and Craig

Robinson in your cast. Talk about a dream come true! But what I’m most excited for audiences to experience is Stevie and Elliot’s sibling story — the bickering, the bonding, and everything in between. It’s ultimately why we share our weird and crazy dreams.”
Benson, the film’s co-director and co-writer, told Tudum he was drawn to the story “because it explores that universal idea of searching for perfect moments. We all have dreams of how our life will be, but reality rarely matches up. This film is about that tension: how we imagine our lives versus how things actually turn out.”
As Woo told The Hollywood Reporter, the story’s origins lie in his own childhood experience, when his mother abruptly left and he and his brother concocted a series of “crazy schemes” to try and bring her back home.
“We had this fantastic world, which is the world of dreams, right? But we had to figure out: How do we ground it in real-world stakes, and that was the big question,” Woo explained. “And it wasn’t until I came up with the story — this autobiographical story of my mom leaving for a little while — that we were like, ‘Oh, that’s an incredibly universal and relatable want for a character.’ And if she can go into the dream world and somehow make her dreams come true, then you can connect her journey in the dream world
to her desire and her problems in the real world. That was the moment that we felt like we bridged those two worlds and made them connected, which I think cracked the story.”
Even though the film is set in the dream realm, Woo felt it was still important to keep everything rooted in reality. “Every dream world that they visited, or every dream they had, had to be set up or connected to something they experienced in the real world,” Woo explained. “We didn’t want to create a dream world that was just some weird, fantastical, absurd place with no connection to reality, because that’s not how our dreams work. My dreams are usually replays of events from the day — sometimes not literal, sometimes symbolic or metaphorical — but there’s always some rooting in real-world experience. That was one of our key conceptual rules or guidelines.” ■
Having spent a third of his life working on Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, Vince Gilligan had some understandable trepidations about moving on to brand new pastures. “My nerves are at a high state of quivering,” says Gilligan. “It’s been a long time since I’ve done something new, so that makes the nerves tingle even more rapidly. But I couldn’t be prouder of Pluribus, and that starts with Rhea Seehorn.”
Indeed, while there are no makeshift meth labs or shady lawyers in Pluribus, Gilligan brings his most recent leading lady to the project where it is not just the fate of one misguided man that’s on the line, but all of humanity. In the comedic psychological sci-fi series, Seehorn plays Carol, a sullen author of romantasy novels who finds herself one of only a handful of people immune to a virus that turns the entire world into an overly pleasant hive mind. Even while annoyed by her own sense of righteousness, Carol feels an obligation to single-handedly reverse the course of this “illness” and restore humanity to what it once was.
But when literally the entire world is fine with this takeover, why even bother? “I would ask myself that in all the scenes that I had alone, with Carol trying to pick herself up off the floor,” says Seehorn. “Believe me, I might just be watching Golden Girls if I was her and never get past that point. But I would give myself different [reasons], because, ‘It’s right to save humanity,’ is not really playable. That’s too large of a conceptual idea.”

Rhea Seehorn stars as a woman on a mission to save the world from happiness in the anticipated new series from the creator of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul

Carol is not just a reluctant hero, but someone who would rather support a mission than spearhead it. “She’s definitely hoping someone else is going to lead the charge and she’s just going to be like, ‘Sure, I can help out with cups and plates, whatever.’ She did not think she was going to have to do this by herself,” says Seehorn. “But we’ve all been there. You keep volunteering slightly and then suddenly you’re the one doing it. Or, you’re the one screaming ‘The barn is on fire!’ and everyone else is like, ‘I think it’s fine.’ The comedy that Vince puts in it, that is born out of human observation, was so much fun to weave it into these very dark spaces.”
The idea of a delightful adversary had been percolating inside Gilligan for almost a decade, starting around the time he began to embark on Better Call Saul. “I’d walk around the neighbourhood near our office building in Burbank, California, and daydream about this guy who everybody was nice to,” he says. “Everybody just loved him. Everybody would do anything in the world for him. I found that pleasing to think about, and then I started to

think, maybe this is a story.” Once he realized Seehorn’s versatility, the idea truly started to take shape. “She was a wonderful revelation to me,” he says. “I thought, ‘Man, she’s good.’ She plays all the drama, but then we give her a chance to do some humour and dummy than I am, I didn’t know we hired someone who could be so funny. I started to think, with my next show, let’s let it have a female protagonist. And, indeed, I wrote this for her.”
There may be little question about what the Emmy-nominated actress can pull off in Gilligan’s eyes, but Seehorn knew she was about to be challenged professionally, from the minute she received the first script. “I was like, ‘This is bananas,’ but in the best way,” she says. “You
could see Vince playing with these tropes, like it’s a zombie apocalyptic thing, but the zombies are nice. What does that mean? And, also, the tone shifts — how oddly funny it is while being devastating. So, I got really, really excited-slashpetrified. This was going to be really challenging as an actor.”
Being able to sit with the first few episodes during the writers’ strike allowed Seehorn to fully ingest her character. “It ended up being a godsend, because of how many scenes I’m in,” she says. After that, Seehorn “went on the journey very similar to what you would as a viewer,” she says. “I did not see what was coming. But it never feels like shock for shock’s sake. It is just that Vince’s assumption of the

audience’s intelligence is so present all the time that you don’t always understand, you just feel like he’s helming the ship in a way that you want to go with.”
Gilligan insists the show has no political axe to grind, but in a world divided he hopes Pluribus will reignite our ability to debate with kindness. “In the writers’ room, early on, we had two writers arguing in front of me about the world of Pluribus. One of them said, ‘There’s a lot to love about this.’ And the other one said, ‘Are you kidding? This would be a nightmare.’ And they both are smart people who could argue their points very coherently. They were both right and they were both wrong,” he says. “But see, the world is always arguing over things. We’ve got to relearn how to disagree with each other and to do it with respect. Maybe Pluribus can help with that. Probably not — I’m being a little grandiose in my thinking — but boy, wouldn’t that be nice?” ■

Long before British novelist Mick Herron became a household name for his espionage series Slow
Emma Thompson and Ruth Wilson get sleuthing in this new series inspired by the creator of Slow Horses
Horses, the Newcastle-born author published a novel series featuring cynical Oxford private detective Zoë Boehm. The first book, released in 2003, garnered at least one super fan, to the point where, when Emma Thompson was approached for the TV series’
adaptation of Down Cemetery Road, the Oscar-winner was more than familiar with its potential.
“Mick’s the reason I did the series,” says Thompson. “I love his writing. He’s funny, but he’s also incredibly sharp about human behaviour.”
The role also happened to fit Thompson’s criteria for the kind of project she likes to hitch her wagon to. “When I’m looking for a role, I want it to be original, I want it to be well-written, and I want it to be fascinating and something that I haven’t seen before,” says Thompson, who also serves as executive producer on the series, helmed by Slow Horses writer Morwenna Banks. “I haven’t seen a P.I. like Zoë before. She hasn’t existed before. You can reel off many male spies, there’s loads of them, but there’s hardly any female private investigators on screen. That is one of the things that draws me in.”
Another good reason to join Down Cemetery Road was Thompson finally getting to work together with The Affair actress Ruth Wilson, even if — on paper, at least — it is the second time the two are co-stars. “I played her mother in Saving Mr. Banks,” says Wilson, pointing out that this doesn’t quite count since the two never shared any scenes (her character was seen in flashbacks). “But I knew that when I’d get in a room with Emma, we’d be able to find some really unique dynamics,” Wilson added. As Herron’s main goal for his literary debut was to write about people thwarted by life being forced to work together, the perpetually annoyed PI’s life being intertwined with that of restless art restorer Sarah Trafford (Wilson) was a partnership made in complex dynamics heaven.
The reluctant collaboration starts when an explosion in a suburban Oxford neighbourhood turns into an accidental unraveling of a sinister government plot. What drew Wilson to the arc, though, was Sarah’s every-woman quality in the

“Neither of them has special skills. You are not going to find either of us hanging off a lane. But what you might find is we’ll use a laptop as a weapon or push someone down the stairs because there’s no other option. It’s a quite new version of an old genre.”
conspiratorial circumstances that she falls into. “A big question that we all had about Sarah is, why does she keep going when she could easily go back home at any point?” says Wilson. “We had to establish that home wasn’t what she wanted to go back to. Also, this is much more exciting than anything in her life for the last five, six years. There’s a feeling of bigger things at play.” And
while Zoë’s an old pro, it is Sarah’s amateurish curiosity that drives this case. “Sarah’s naivety is quite useful in some ways, and the fact that she doesn’t quite understand the stakes of the situation means that she’s got a courage that others wouldn’t have in that scenario,” says Wilson. Thompson agrees that the usually unaffected Zoë is quite impressed by the partner that’s forced upon

her. “She really admires Sarah for carrying on in spite of everything,” says Thompson, who also loves the resourcefulness of these two. “What is a female hero? It’s the person who gets on with it. ‘I see something needs to be done, so I’ll do it.’ Neither of them has special skills. You are not going to find either of us hanging off a plane. But what you might find is we’ll use a laptop as a weapon or push someone down the stairs because there’s no other option. It’s a quite new version of an old genre.”
Speaking of finding their place in the genre, the two can’t help but laugh when recounting an action scene from an episode later in the series, where the duo is forced to embark on an adventure at sea. “We just thought, oh my God, this is mad,” says Thompson, with a
laugh. “The moment when we’re in the Atlantic, fully clothed in winter, that was another bonding moment. Just watching this one, who will just undertake anything dangerous without even checking the safety regulations — I mean, it’s safety third with her — it’s fantastic. So, we did have a lot of fun, and I knew that I would be okay because she had my back and I had hers.”
With four Zoë Boehm books to draw from, there is a solid chance that Thompson and Wilson could return to conquer more social injustice in a second season, as long as the audience is keen. “I feel like we’ve really committed, in word and deed,” says Thompson. “And we very much feel as though there was an investment that we made into these characters that I think would warrant further investigation.” ■

TV SHOW CROSSOVERS are hardly a new idea, particularly when it comes to spinoffs. Remember when Fonzie turned up on Laverne & Shirley? Or the multiple times that The Six Million Dollar Man joined forces with The Bionic Woman? While producer Dick Wolf has liberally used crossovers in his Law & Order and Chicago series, another show that has not been immune to networks’ temptation to juice ratings by blending hit shows is NCIS. That was certainly evident back in 2023 when a single storyline played out in
back-to-back episodes of NCIS, NCIS: Hawai’i and NCIS: Los Angeles. The franchise is doing it again this week, with a special crossover event airing on Remembrance Day — that begins in NCIS: Origins and continues in NCIS. What makes this particular crossover so unique — and tricky to pull off — is that the latter is set in the present, while the former takes place 30 years earlier.

“The writers came up with this really great idea that it was possible to deal with the same case, the same characters, the same evidence, and it’s all completely logical.”
While details of the storyline — and how it will unfold within the two shows — are being kept under wraps, NCIS star Wilmer Valderrama (who plays special agent Nick Torres) appeared in a promotional video alongside Austin Stowell, who plays the 1990s iteration of Mark Harmon’s Gibbs.
“Get ready for a crossover event like no other,” Valderrama teased. “We’ll work a case that spans over decades.” Stowell and Valderrama shared a few more details when they discussed the crossover in a spoiler-free interview with Parade
“The writers came up with this really great idea that it was possible to

deal with the same case, the same characters, the same evidence, and it’s all completely logical,” Stowell explained. “With this opportunity, you’re going to see the team on the mothership reviewing interrogation tapes from NCIS: Origins for the very first time. We’re going to start to see the two teams become more interconnected, and I can only see that this will grow for more opportunities in the future.”
“The best part about it is that you get to

see our teams collaborate, like you would in a crossover, in a very fluid way,” Valderrama added. “They found a very clever way to almost have us talk to each other in a weird way, you know? But I think the fans are going to think it’s very clever, very fun, and you will see us coexisting. People are like, ‘Well, obviously if a cold case happens here, then you solve it there,’ but it’s more than that.”
Earlier this season, viewers of Origins received a special treat when Stowell’s character met young Ducky for the first time, with Adam Campbell playing the 1990s version of the beloved medical examiner portrayed by the late David McCallum in the original NCIS
As Stowell pointed out, young Ducky may not be the only character
variation viewers will encounter in future episodes of both shows. “Why wouldn’t there be more cases that the team that you see in present day would be opening with the technology that they have?” he said. “And it’s an opportunity to see different versions of characters who might be witnesses to the case, who might be perpetrators of the case, who might be behind bars when they shouldn’t be. There are lots of opportunities for drama, and really, it’s just kudos to our writers and creators who came up with this really fun idea.”

According to Valderrama, this latest crossover is the show’s way of thanking loyal fans who tune in each week. “I think it’s a very exciting opportunity to continue to expand on why the show is so special,” he added. ■

STARRING: Glen Powell, Josh Brolin, William H. Macy, Lee Pace, Emilia Jones
The latest film based on Stephen King’s novel (previously brought to the screen as an Arnold Schwarzenegger vehicle in 1987), focuses on The Running Man, TV’s top-rated show in a dystopian future. In the deadly competition, contestants (i.e. Runners) must survive 30 days while being hunted by professional assassins, their every move broadcast to a bloodthirsty public and each day bringing a greater cash reward. Desperate to save his sick daughter, working-class Ben Richards (Glen Powell) is convinced by the show’s charming but ruthless producer, Dan Killian (Josh Brolin), to enter the game as a last resort. But Ben’s defiance, instincts and grit turn him into an unexpected fan favourite — and a threat to the entire system.

STARRING: Elle Fanning, Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi
This sequel, set in the distant future, takes place on a remote planet where a young Predator named Dek (portrayed by stunt performer Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi) has been outcast from his clan. Dek discovers an unlikely ally in Thia (Elle Fanning), and together they embark on a treacherous journey in search of the ultimate adversary.

STARRING: Jennifer Lawrence, Robert Pattinson, Nick Nolte, Sissy Spacek Grace (Jennifer Lawrence) and partner Jackson (Robert Pattinson) have recently moved from NYC into an old house deep in the country, where she plans to write the Great American Novel. After they welcome a baby, Grace struggles with feelings of isolation and psychological distress, her deteriorating mental health gradually pushing the couple’s relationship into unsettling and unpredictable territory.
One of the most uniquely compelling character actors to emerge over the past decade, you know Paul Walter Hauser from I, Tonya, BlacKkKlansman and as the man wrongly accused of bombing the 1996 Atlanta Olympics in director Clint Eastwood’s Richard Jewell. On TV, he won an Emmy as serial killer Larry Hall in Black Bird. Further adorning his CV: Inside Out 2, The Fantastic Four: First Steps and The Naked Gun. After reaching the heights of Hollywood, he achieved another childhood dream: signing with the MLW to become a pro wrestler.
A devout Christian, Hauser finally gets to explore his faith through his craft via this cartoon spinoff of The Chosen. Set in 30 CE, the show follows a precocious kid named Abby (voiced by Romy Fay), whose boundless curiosity about religion leads her to seek answers from the Son of God himself (Jonathan Roumie, reprising his role from the live-action Chosen). Hauser voices Abby’s curmudgeonly, dry-witted sidekick, Sheep.
BY MATT CURRIE
QOne of the surprising things about this show is its almost irreverent sense of humour. That’s not a quality we’ve come to expect from faith-based programming, which tends to be quite earnest. Would you say that irreverence opens up a new way to engage with an audience, and a novel way of tackling a religious story?
AA thousand per cent. I mean, listen, there’s a difference between faith and religion; one emanates from the other. Faith is, of course, the penultimate stop before religion’s destination. I think some people get offended if you’re not fully what they deem to be “reverent” with the material. But there’s a place for that too; there’s a place for a reverence and quirkiness. This [series] happened to be in the animation world, which lends itself to that . . . and the adults can laugh at things that the kids don’t pick up, and the kids might

be focusing on something else entirely. Having that texture and that dichotomy is actually really cool.
QTell me about getting into character as the Sheep. I detected a bit of Eeyore from Winnie-the-Pooh, but maybe with a bit more sardonic bite?
AYou’re dead-on. I was literally thinking about Eeyore while I was doing it. It was Eeyore, Pumbaa from Lion King and maybe . . . what was the other one I had in mind? There were a couple characters, it was just kind of an amalgam . . . oh, Garfield! There’s a little bit of Garfield too, which is the laid-back voiceover and his love of all things food.
QLooking at the amazing run you’ve been on of late — starring in these massive, award-winning films and TV shows, working with the biggest stars and directors — do you ever look back to a time not that long ago, when you were just a struggling actor, and think, “How is this all going so exceptionally well?”
AListen, I believe in “manifesting” as a factual practice that you create
from your tongue. I don’t believe in it as a substitution for what I ask from God and my relationship with God — but I do believe it’s a real thing. My entire life I’ve wanted to pursue dramatic acting and professional wrestling and to work with people like Pixar and Marvel . . . and that’s all happened. So, that’s just been very dreamy — and very humbling to see what God has allowed and put across my proverbial desk.
QThat streak very much continues with you now joining the Chosen franchise, which is not just a hit show, but a true global phenomenon . . .
AThis has always been a dream of mine, too — to do faith-based material or something with a veneer of my Christianity. But I was kind of waiting for something that I thought was on the level of entertainment excellence that I would actually want to do. And this is the first one.
I also, as an actor, want to show versatility. If I can play a serial killer but also do The Chosen Adventures? That’s pretty dope.

Food, at its core, is beautifully simple. Good quality, whole ingredients can be transformed into something wild and magical when flavours collide. It awakens the senses, transports us through space and time, and turns the ordinary into the extraordinary. It taps into our deepest emotions and reminds us of who we are and how we love.
Choosing whole foods doesn’t mean going without. It means leaning in and getting curious. It means trading the processed and predictable for naturally delicious and playful. A chance to explore colour, texture, and flavour at their peak, alive with the taste of season and story.
A cut of meat you’ve never tried, a fruit rind you thought was trash, or a homemade sauce so good, it becomes your new signature. Cooking this way invites play and discovery, and it keeps your mind wildly aware and your connection to the natural world beautifully intact.

They are like very tiny powerplants that produce energy in every living cell of our bodies. On average, every cell has 1,500 mitochondria. Can you imagine that for their extremely small size, it’s been said that they produce, gram for gram, 10,000–50,000 times more energy than the sun?
To say that mitochondria are important to human health is grossly understating their role in our

survival. We literally would not be alive without them. They convert our food into energy, so that every other function of our body can occur as it needs to. As we age, our ability to create healthy mitochondria to support our energy demands diminishes. And because about 90% of our cellular energy is produced by mitochondria, this decline can cause significant health issues
