Food, at its core, is beautifully simple. Good quality, whole ingredients can be transformed into something wild and magical when flavours collide. It awakens the senses, transports us through space and time, and turns the ordinary into the extraordinary. It taps into our deepest emotions and reminds us of who we are and how we love.
Choosing whole foods doesn’t mean going without. It means leaning in and getting curious. It means trading the processed and predictable for naturally delicious and playful. A chance to explore colour, texture, and flavour at their peak, alive with the taste of season and story.
A cut of meat you’ve never tried, a fruit rind you thought was trash, or a homemade sauce so good, it becomes your new signature. Cooking this way invites play and discovery, and it keeps your mind wildly aware and your connection to the natural world beautifully intact.

Back in 1995, a sprawling eight-part documentary series told the complete story of The Beatles, an ambitious project that also encompassed three double albums (which included new singles “Free as a Bird” and “Real Love”) and a lavish coffee table book.
In celebration of the original series’ 30th anniversary, The Beatles Anthology is coming back with a new makeover courtesy of Peter Jackson, who previously brought us the eight-hour Get Back and restored the Let It Be documentary. Not only is Jackson digitally restoring the original episodes — with Giles Martin, son of late Beatles producer George Martin, remastering the music — he’s also adding a ninth instalment, featuring never-before-seen footage.
In addition to the remastering and rerelease of the original Anthology albums, a new Anthology 4 will also be coming out, set to include 13 previously unreleased demos and session recordings, in addition to various outtakes that have already appeared in the band’s assorted “deluxe edition” rereleases in recent years.
“The series’ original eight episodes trace the legendary journey that began
in Liverpool and Hamburg and soon captivated the world. They bring to life the timeless stories — of Beatlemania, the band’s groundbreaking arrival in the U.S.A., their role at the forefront of the 1960s counterculture, their spiritual exploration in India, and their eventual breakup. And through it all, the constant thread: the music, always the music,” states the official synopsis. “There is now a completely new episode nine, including unseen behind-thescenes footage of Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr coming together between 1994 and 1995 to work on The Anthology and reflecting on their shared life as The Beatles.”

To clarify, the soap star turned star realtor — who’s been with Netflix’s trashy reality hit since its very first commission cheque back in 2019 — wasn’t actually fired. She quit. As Stause told Bustle after season nine debuted this fall: “I’ve vacillated back and forth with this decision in the past. I have to be honest — having come from nothing, it’s really hard to turn something like this down . . . [but] I’ve gotten to a place where I don’t need the show financially. I’m lucky to have other forms of employment, because it’s no longer good for my mental health.”

We just caught up on Wednesday. Loved Billie Piper’s role! It got me wondering when we’ll see her new version of Doctor Who?
E.N., Coquitlam
As previously reported, the future of this U.K. time-travel series is very much in limbo following the May 2025 season finale. In that episode, fans were flabbergasted to see Ncuti Gatwa’s Fifteenth Doctor regenerate into former Companion Rose Tyler, once
again played by Piper — returning to the iconic franchise she helped reboot in 2005, before leaving in 2006. Alas, streamer Disney+ — which struck a deal in 2022 to co-finance the BBC series and handle distribution outside the U.K. and Ireland — has now opted out of that arrangement; a Deadline report cites high budget and low viewership as key factors in the decision. BBC has assured fans the Doctor will return, but the network must now sort out financing (likely at a reduced budget), global distribution and, as some insiders have

speculated, perhaps even a new creative direction. One thing we do know: a Christmas special has been ordered, which will air on both the BBC and Disney+ — but that’s not coming until December of 2026, with producers foregoing the age-old Whovian tradition for this current holiday season. Presumably, the 2026 special will feature Rose’s new-look Doctor.
Showrunner Russell T. Davies, who returned to helm the series under the now-defunct Disney deal (after having previously revived Doctor Who to great acclaim in the early 2000s), has been confirmed to write it. But his involvement after that is not guaranteed, nor is Piper’s. That said, BBC and Disney+ are still partnered on a Daviescreated Who spinoff called The War Between the Land and the Sea, set to stream in 2026. It finds the secret task force known as UNIT struggling to keep the peace when creatures called Sea Devils rise from the ocean. Jemma Redgrave reprises her role as UNIT boss Kate Lethbridge-Stewart, along
with new recruits Russell Tovey (Being Human) and Gugu Mbatha-Raw (The Morning Show).

My friends tell me that I am stuck in time, and maybe they’re right. But I love watching Hogan’s Heroes on MeTV and hardly ever miss an episode. I love Bob Crane, and wonder why he did not become a big star after Hogan’s?
P.Z., Victoria
Starting out in the music biz, Bob Crane was a drummer of note and a red-hot morning disc jockey before he landed the now-iconic role of Col. Robert E. Hogan — wily American inmate at a Second World War German prison camp. Crane was surrounded by a strong international cast that added to the comedy in what would, at first blush, seem to be a most un-comedic setting. Hogan and his men (including a young Richard Dawson) were forever foiling the German war effort, while cheekily assuring their clueless jailers Col. Klink ( Werner Klemperer) and Sgt. Schultz (John Banner) that they were still in charge.
The series attracted strong ratings right out of the gate in 1965, but its eventual cancellation in 1971 left Crane out of work. With no offers coming in, he began appearing on the dinner theatre circuit. Then, NBC came calling and in 1975 he debuted The Bob Crane Show, playing an insurance exec who quits to attend medical school. It was produced by Mary Tyler Moore’s MTM banner, which had done Moore’s own series, as well as The Bob Newhart Show. Unfortunately, the new sitcom’s ratings were terrible and it was cancelled after 14 episodes. So, it was back to dinner theatre for Crane — until he was found bludgeoned to death in an Arizona apartment at age 49. The murder remains unsolved to this day.

Michael Caine and Glenda Jackson team up to lead this factbased heartwarmer, which hit U.K. theatres in 2023, but now makes its way to our TV screens via PBS.
The film centres on Bernard Jordan (Caine), an aging veteran who, in 2014, goes AWOL from his retirement home to attend a 70th-anniversary reunion on the D-Day beaches of Normandy. Meanwhile, back on the “home” front, his wife Rene (Jackson, in her final role) reminisces about falling in love with Bernie amidst the chaos of the war.
It was a news item that made headlines at the time

As he told The AU Review : “I thought it could be a little bit cheesy, a little British nostalgic number, which is going to be tough to tell . . . But then [ William] Ivory’s script arrived, and I thought he was really onto something. He was, in some way, subverting the event and finding some real teeth to it. He was accentuating the heart but looking for a kind of subversive energy.”

Hot off playing an arsonist in Apple TV’s Smoke, Taron Egerton leads this Prime original film about a convict who gets out of prison, only to be forced on the run with his 11-year-old daughter (Ana Sophia Heger) when they land in the crosshairs of a vicious gang leader and a corrupt sheriff.

An unexpected sensation when it premiered on Netflix in the summer of 2016, Stranger Things’ popularity has — much like its once pint-sized stars — grown immensely over the past decade.
Now, every season of the nostalgiasoaked fantasy adventure is an event of epic proportions . . . and for this final season, expect the show to go bigger and bolder than ever.
Picking back up in the fall of 1987, the town of Hawkins is on the verge of annihilation, after our heroes’ valiant but failed attempt to contain Vecna. Now, the demon has torn the dimensional barrier to shreds and unleashed an army of nightmares from the Upside Down. As ever, the world’s best hope of salvation is psychic superteen Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown); alas, the full force of the U.S. military is in town and gunning for her.
“I think what’s unique about this season is that it starts a little bit in chaos because our heroes ultimately lost at the end of season four,” co-creator Ross Duffer teased in a

chat with Tudum. “We usually set up their normal life and how they’re going about school, and then we introduce the supernatural element. But in this case, this season is sprinting from the start.”
Added executive producer and frequent director Shawn Levy: “The action is next-level, the visual effects are next-level, but I’m also happy to say that the emotional centre remains the same. And part of the magic of this show is that even as we evolve, even as the storytelling becomes more epic, it’s always anchored in these characters that we love.”
The first four episodes premiere this Wednesday, followed by another three on Christmas Day and the finale on New Year’s Eve. That feature-length farewell episode will also receive a brief theatrical run — limited to New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, at 350 cinemas across the U.S. and Canada.

Two unlikely thieves, one unlikely love story — that’s the hook for Netflix’s latest holiday romance.
When a young Philadelphian named Sophia (Olivia Holt) moves across the pond to care for her ailing mother, she finds the cost of living in London prohibitive, to say the least. Despite working two jobs, the bills pile up and, as a last gasp to stay afloat, she decides to rob her Scrooge-like boss (Peter Serafinowicz). Alas, she’s caught in the act by phone technician Nick (Connor Swindells). Yet as fate would have it, Nick also finds himself strapped for cash, struggling to support a young daughter after his divorce. Teaming up, they learn they’ve got some complementary robbing skills — her being a magic fan who’s good with sleight of hand and him having previously worked as a security expert.
Looking to give their families a merrier sort of Christmas, Sophia and Nick plot the “ultimate heist” at a swanky department store. But along the way, they find they’ve got the
Wednesday, Netflix
chemistry for more than just thievery.
As Holt teased to People: “This was so much fun. It has elements of action and romance and mystery that are all genres and worlds that I love.” Added Swindells: “What drew me most to the project was the excitement of making something silly and joyful again. I’ve always wanted to make a Christmas movie.”
Luckily, filming in London during the 2023 holiday season, there were plenty of yuletide rom-com classics on TV for them to study. “I really love Four Christmases; I love Reese Witherspoon and Vince Vaughn’s dynamic in that movie,” said Holt. “They are this unlikely pair, and their banter and bickering in the movie is so fun. I definitely felt like Connor and I leaned into that a little bit too.”
Meanwhile, bringing the cheer behind the camera is director Michael Fimognari, best known for Netflix’s To All the Boys franchise.

ay Duplass has appeared in such highprofile series as The Mindy Project, Transparent and, just recently, Dying for Sex. But his roots can be traced back to the indie-film world, where he and his brother Mark continue to be pioneers in producing, directing and starring in small projects that take big creative swings.
Next up on that front is The Baltimorons, a film that finds Duplass sticking behind the scenes to helm the story of an offbeat May/December flirtation that arises from a dental emergency. After cracking a tooth on Christmas Eve, Cliff (Michael Strassner, who co-wrote the script with Duplass) lands in the chair of an all-night dentist named
Didi (Liz Larsen) — who then winds up accompanying him on an impromptu odyssey through the streets of Baltimore. They’re very different people, with very different foibles, but one thing they share is hard luck. Cliff is a newly sober alcoholic whose addiction has all but ruined his career as an improv comic; Didi, meanwhile, has a bad case of the holiday blues, unsure if she can brave a sure-to-bemessy Christmas dinner with her intolerable ex and their beloved daughter. Yet as the synopsis teases: “While they can’t seem to solve their own problems, Cliff and Didi are uniquely equipped to help the other . . .”
The film debuted at the SXSW fest, where it won the vaunted Audience Award.

We all kind of can participate in this conversation that’s constantly evolving, year to year, month to month, because we make [the films] and we put them out.”
And, without question, as special as this trip was for the average Joes and Janes, it had just as deep an impact on the celebs. “[Fans] Gail and Alicia and I spent a day together that was unlike any other,” Hynes continued. “It was hilarious, ridiculous, inspiring, beautiful — the things that they shared about themselves and what they’re trying to let go of and move on from, and what this vacation meant for them.”

EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND: 30th ANNIVERSARY REUNION
Monday, 8 p.m., Global & CBS
as it really been 30 years since viewers first met Long Island sports writer Ray Barone and his wacky family? Time does indeed fly, and this week CBS is delivering a nostalgic gift with a new 90-minute special, Everybody Loves Raymond: 30th Anniversary Reunion.
The celebration will be hosted by star Ray Romano and series creator Phil Rosenthal, and will also feature

cast members Patricia Heaton (who played Ray’s often-exasperated wife, Debra), Brad Garrett (Ray’s brother, Robert) and Monica Horan (Robert’s wife, Amy). Also on hand will be siblings Madylin and Sullivan Sweeten; Madylin played Ray and
Debra’s daughter, Ally, while Sullivan and brother Sawyer (who died in 2015 at age 19) played the Barones’ twin sons, Geoffrey and Michael.
“Twenty years since the show’s finale episode, audiences are invited back to the recreated Barone living room for an unforgettable evening with America’s favourite family,” declares the CBS release for the special, which will include “candid conversations” with the cast in addition to never-before-seen outtakes and commentary.

Prior to filming the special, Romano, Heaton and Rosenthal reunited for an interview with Entertainment Tonight, with Heaton admitting that it wasn’t until after the show ended that she really came to appreciate just how special it was.
“When you’re in it, and you’re doing it, you’re just trying to create a good show, and that’s what you focus on,” Heaton said.
“And you wonder, do they like it? Are people watching? You don’t know if it’s good or not. And then as soon as you’re done with one, you don’t even have time, because the next one is next week,” added Romano.
“And you’re not thinking legacy or anything like that,” Heaton affirmed.
As Rosenthal observed, the reason that Everybody Loves Raymond was so relatable to viewers was because the comedy was mined from real life. “Ninety per cent of what you saw on the
show happened to me or Ray or to one of the other writers,” Rosenthal revealed, while also giving full credit to the actors for the show’s success. “Writer plus actor equals character,” he said. “And we had the best actors in the world. Truly.”
According to Romano, he hadn’t made it a habit to catch reruns, but admitted he did inadvertently happen upon an episode a few years back, and was surprised by his reaction. “I realized it was affecting me differently,” he said. “I was able to step back and enjoy it, and appreciate it, and I said, ‘I’m gonna watch them all. And I’m going to grade them.’ I’m very anal.”
now, I’m still getting out there and experimenting with acting.”
In fact, Romano has ventured from comedy to drama in recent years, appearing in films such as Somewhere in Queens and Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman. Meanwhile, Rosenthal — whose role on Raymond was behind the scenes — has become a TV star in his own right, carving out a whole new career as host of his food-based Netflix travelogue Somebody Feed Phil Sadly absent from the festivities are Peter Boyle and Doris Roberts, who played Ray and Robert’s parents, Frank and Marie Barone. As viewers are well aware, the pairing of the two resulted in pure comedy gold, and the special will feature a touching tribute to the late actors and their fan-favourite characters (Boyle died in 2006 at age 71, Roberts in 2016 at 90).
And he did, watching every single episode, giving each one a grade out of a hundred. “Nothing’s perfect, nothing got a hundred,” he admitted, revealing the highest score he awarded was a 96.
Romano was also conscious of how much the success of Everybody Loves Raymond changed his life, putting him on an acting path he hadn’t been previously. “I mean, I was just a standup — I mean, I love doing standup, I still do — but the show became what it became, I was this actor who was very green. I got fired five months before from News Radio. And
“They are as big a part of the show as anybody,” Romano observed. “Professionally, we miss them. People talk about a reboot, and the immediate answer is no way, because you can’t. They’re such a major part of the dynamic of everything.” Garrett seconded that during a recent interview with People. Emphasizing how responsible Boyle and Roberts were in the show’s success, he insisted that any discussions of potentially rebooting the show were rendered moot after their deaths. ”There is no show without the parents,” Garrett said. ”They were the catalyst, and to do anything that would resemble that wouldn’t be right to the audiences or to the loyal fan base. And it was about those two families, and you can’t get around that.”Added Garrett, ”I know [the reboot] won’t happen, but 30 years later, I got very lucky to get on that bus. I’m very grateful.” ■

Wealthy Molly Wells (Maya Rudolph) continues battling the billionaires through philanthropy in the third season of Loot
he start of Loot ’s third season swiftly tumbles into the absurd, as billionaire Molly Wells (Maya Rudolph) believes she is stranded on a desert island, Gilligan’s Island style, with assistant Nicholas (Joel Kim Booster), when, in fact, this is all an elaborate ruse he’s orchestrated to let Molly shake off the embarrassment of having made a surprise visit to Arthur’s (Nat Faxon) house only to find him with his new girlfriend, Willa (Hayley Magnus). Pretending to be stranded on the grounds of a luxury resort seems extreme, but the gesture sets the scene for the entire season.
“I think we learn that Nicholas will
literally move mountains to make sure that Molly is protected, comfortable and insulated,” says Booster. “That’s a really nice, sweet impulse, but it’s not always to the betterment of Molly or their relationship.”
If there is such a thing as too much insulation, Molly is not in a place where she cares. “Molly is totally self-absorbed at the beginning of season three. She’s shut down. She’s so humiliated and embarrassed at overstepping in her relationship with Arthur and just wants to run away from everything,” says Rudolph.
“She doesn’t even know where that is. She literally leaves it in Nicholas’ hands.” The show’s tone being what it is means that Molly’s pain morphs into broad comedy — not just in the arrival of Molly’s entire team, but in the introduction of another eye-raising group on the island that has guest star Henry Winkler at the

helm. “I think the balance of those two extremes is the sweet spot of this show,” says Rudolph. “We’re talking about a rarefied world yet trying to find the humanity and the relationships within that.”
This season is all about exploring kinks in various relationships. First and foremost, what would the reallife challenges be if Molly and Arthur were able to give things a go? “How different their lives are,” answers Rudolph. “You take that big leap with the other person because you genuinely want to be with them, but then the reality of your lifestyles set in. I think they really have to be honest with themselves and each other about if that can work. They’re very different people.”
So different are their worlds that Nicholas isn’t sure if Arthur is up for the task of dating Molly. “I don’t think Nicholas has ever met a boyfriend of Molly’s that he truly thinks is the real deal or worthy of her,” admits Booster. “And then there’s Arthur, who he has very conflicted feelings about because he’s obviously very good friends with him. But I think Nicholas, even before Molly, sees the incompatibilities in their lifestyles. And, unlike Molly, he doesn’t quite understand why she would want to change hers to accommodate him.”

Another relationship that gets rattled this season is that between Sofia (Michaela Jaé Rodriguez) and Howard (Ron Funches), when Sofia’s sister Destiny (X Mayo)

arrives in town. “One of the things I really liked [about that storyline] was that, as you become adults, you start to build your own life the way that you want people to view you, but your family knows you since day one,” says Funches. “So Destiny comes in as a person who can pop through Sofia’s bubble of ‘I’m allknowing, I never get flustered. I’m the one in charge.’ When Destiny comes in, little Fifi [emerges].” Destiny also threatens to come between these two colleagues, as Howard takes a liking to Sofia’s sibling. “Sofia has more information about her sister than Howard does, and she cares a lot about Howard and doesn’t want to see him hurt,” says Rodriguez. “That is the best part about this for me. I love that she cares deeply about Howard.”
Each time they uncover new vulnerabilities in their characters, it is that balance between humour and emotion that the cast continues to love about the zany comedy series. “Some shows are just doing humour, but the characters don’t really grow and change. And then there are shows

“Some shows are just doing humour, but the characters don’t really grow and change. And then there are shows where the characters are growing and changing, but I wouldn’t necessarily call them comedies. I think Loot does a great job of threading that needle . . .”
where the characters are growing and changing, but I wouldn’t necessarily call them comedies,” says Funches. “I think Loot does a
great job of threading that needle, and I think it’s because of the writing of people who come from 30 Rock and Parks and Recreation — and just Maya, in general.”
As much as ever, the comedy never misses an opportunity to poke fun at billionaires. But what Rudolph also hopes is that the show inspires those with reallife coffers. “There’s a beautiful balance that the show is able to achieve, in terms of trying to find ways to talk about [billionaires] in the reality of the world that we live in and how philanthropy can actually be used in radical ways,” says Rudolph. “It’s exciting that we’re part of that conversation and I hope that it’s rubbing off a little bit. Sometimes we hear that somebody gave a billion dollars away, and I’m like, I wonder if they watch Loot?” ■

Sunday, Paramount+
t’s getting to the point that listing all of Taylor Sheridan’s hit shows is akin to counting the stars in the sky, yet Landman has proven to be a standout. Set amid the West Texas oil boom, the series focuses on Tommy Norris (played by Billy Bob Thornton), solver of problems for M-Tex Oil.
At the end of the debut season, M-Tex owner — and Tommy’s longtime friend — Monty Miller (Jon Hamm) suffered a fatal heart attack, placing control of the company in Tommy’s hands. When the series returns, Monty’s widow, Cami (Demi Moore), is forced to step into service to help Tommy fend off threats to her late husband’s
empire. “In season two, as oil rises from the earth, so do secrets — and Tommy’s breaking point may be closer than he realizes,” reads the new season’s logline. “Facing mounting pressure from M-Tex Oil, Cami Miller and the shadow of his kin, survival in West Texas isn’t noble — it’s brutal. And sooner or later something’s got to break.”
Tommy has often been described as the role of Thornton’s already stellar career, and there’s a good reason for that. “Taylor wrote this series for me. I mean, specifically for me,” says Thornton. “ Because I had done that cameo for him in 1883, and he said, ‘I think I have your voice. I think I know how to write for you.’ And sure enough, when I read the first script of season one, I was like, ‘Yeah, you kind of got it down.’ ”
While Thornton has grown comfortable enough with Tommy to improvise occasionally, he’s also well aware that Sheridan has the final say. “Taylor writes really great scripts, so you don’t have to do much. But if you feel like something in the moment, you just say it. So yeah, every now and then [laughs] I throw one in. But I’m as dumb as a bag of hammers,” Thornton says. “If he likes it, he keeps it. And if he doesn’t, he dumps it, which is very fair.”
According to viewership numbers, Landman is Sheridan’s mostwatched show, drawing a bigger audience than even established hits such as Yellowstone and Special Ops: Lioness. Thornton has a theory about why that is. “Landman has humour, it has absurdity, it has heavy drama, emotion, danger, all these
that I’m grateful to say that I have not experienced, which is life after the loss of a partner, of a relationship that is really the foundation of her entire existence, and the stakes of that,” says Moore. “I think Cami is underestimated. She’s stepping into a world she doesn’t know except from the peripheral, and I think that she has the strength and resilience, which I also really identify with, to step in and take on the challenge no matter what the obstacles.”
Just as Tommy had Monty’s back, his bond with Cami is equally solid. “You see they all kind of started together,” says Moore. “And I think that he’s really, in a sense, her only anchor. He’s her anchor and kind of port in the storm as it were . . . But really, with Monty gone, Tommy really is everything that’s kind of holding
“Landman has humour, it has absurdity, it has heavy drama, emotion, danger, all these different things. So it kind of covers everything.”
different things,” he says. “So it kind of covers everything. And that’s the way the old movies were. You know, when we watched the movies of the ’30s, ’40s, ’50s, ’60s, they always had all of that stuff. And I think that’s why people respond to it. And I think one of the charming things about these characters, all of them, is that they say exactly what they say. There’s no holding back. And at the end of the day, isn’t that what art is really supposed to be? Isn’t it supposed to be, there are no rules, there are no fences here?”
For Moore, Landman has been part of a career resurgence that culminated in her Oscar nod for The Substance. While Cami’s role was minor in the first season, she’s pushed to the forefront in the second. “Cami is facing a challenge
her in place for a world that is about to explode beyond what she has any knowledge and experience of.”
A new arrival this season is Sam Elliott, who jumped at the chance to reunite with Sheridan after having previously worked together on the Yellowstone prequel 1883 “I think 1883 was one of the great experiences of my career. And the opportunity to go back and work with Taylor again . . .” Elliott says. “I happen to think he’s one of the most brilliant writers in the game today.”
Elliott plays T.L. Norris, Tommy’s estranged father, a role that he admits gave him pause. “Probably the most difficult thing was realizing that I was old enough to be Billy Bob Thornton’s dad,” Elliott says with a laugh. “I’m not even sure that I’ve accepted that yet.”
Clockwise from right: Cami Miller (Demi Moore) will be playing a far larger role than she did last season; Tommy’s estranged father, T.L. Norris (Sam Elliott) re-enters his life; Tommy’s son, Cooper (Jacob Lofland) continues to pursue his romance with recently widowed Ariana (Paulina Chávez); Mexican cartel boss Gallino (Andy Garcia) has aspirations to get into the oil business; Tommy’s ex-wife Angela (Ali Larter) and daughter Ainsley (Michelle Randolph).

Working with Sheridan wasn’t Elliott’s only draw to Landman. “I happen to be a huge Billy Bob Thornton fan for a long, long time,” says Elliott, who first met Thornton when they worked together in the 1993 western Tombstone. “He’s very generous as an actor,” Elliott says of Thornton. “And he, needless to say, takes care of business. He knows what he’s there for . . . We work hard, and we commit to whatever it is we’re doing. Try to make it real. No acting, just try to be real.”
Ever since its premiere, Landman has stirred up controversy, with some contending the series romanticizes the oil industry during a time when everyone on the planet should be backing away from fossil fuels. It’s a question that Thornton has heard a lot, and shared his response when posed a question about that. “And she said, ‘How do you justify the morality of doing a show about the oil business?’ And I was like, ‘Well, I’ll put it to you like this. If they figure out a way to run everything on Earth using water, the oil guys will get into the water business,’ ” Thornton quips.
“It’s a corporation, like the pharmaceutical companies or tech companies, anybody,” he adds. “They’re moneymakers. And so this show just shows you a peek behind the curtain of the oil business. It’s not a political thing. [Sheridan’s] not saying yay oil or boo oil. He’s just saying, here’s how it works. And I think because of that, people respond to it. Because it’s just showing you how it is. I mean, if you make a movie about a serial killer and everybody goes, ‘Oh my god, you know, Actor X was amazing playing the guy that eats people or whatever,’ you know. And then he gets the Academy Award for it . . . so you like serial killers? I don’t quite understand that. Because our job as artists is to portray whoever we’re portraying in an honest way. Taylor allows us to do that, and he writes it that way. And I think that’s all I have to say on that subject.” ■
working mom

Thursday, 7 p.m. & 10:05 p.m., Showcase
When working mom
Marissa Irvine arrives to pick up her young son Milo from his first playdate in an upscale Chicago neighbourhood, the woman who answers the door is a stranger. She doesn’t have Milo, and hasn’t seen him. As every parent’s worst nightmare begins to unfold, new questions lead to deep secrets, revealing cracks in the Irvines’ seemingly perfect world until everything is left shattered.

That’s the premise of All Her Fault, a new thriller starring Succession Emmy winner Sarah Snook as Marissa, with Dakota Fanning as Jenny Kaminski, the acquaintance whom Marissa believed was hosting her son’s playdate, and who becomes intimately entangled in the search and scandal that follow. Rounding out the cast are: Jake Lacy as Marissa’s husband, Peter; Sophia Lillis as Carrie, a nanny suspected of abducting Milo; Michael Peña as a cop investigating the disappearance; and Abby Elliott as Lia, Peter’s loose-cannon sister.
For Snook, All Her Fault took her into uncharted waters. “I’ve never
Sarah Snook opens up about portraying a woman whose child mysteriously vanishes in twist-filed thriller All Her Fault
done really a proper thriller like this before, and it had a really great twist that I was excited to be into,” she says. “You engage with all the drama and all these scenes — and
then just playing a mom who is very successful and also wants to be a mom. Often we see on screen women who are successful and then, you know, child-rearing is kind

of a pain in the a**. But in this, she wants to be present for both. And how do you balance that?”
Not only does Snook lead the cast, she’s a producer. While that increased her workload, it also gave her a voice in shaping the direction of the series. “We had a lot of robust conversations, which was great to be able to be involved in that creative side,” she explains. “And it’s not something I had done beforehand.”
Meanwhile, Snook herself is mother to a two-year-old, and she admits that juggling acting, producing and parenting wasn’t easy. “It was a tricky balance,” she says. “But it was great. It was great to be able to talk with [series
creator] Megan [Gallagher] and all the writers and the producers, and really work out who we wanted these characters to be.”
As a mother, Snook found a close connection with her character. “I think that was something that was interesting for me to approach, different from the character that most people know me from, is that she definitely wants to be a parent and wants to be a mom, wants to be present as being a mom,” the actress shares. “But I think that’s something that’s a part of me as well. It probably doesn’t come out in this so much because of the content and the thriller aspect and what she’s dealing with. But I wanted to
I’ve never done really a proper thriller like this before, and it had a really great twist that I was excited to be into.” ‘‘
be able to play a character that is closer to me in terms of warmth.”
As she says, Marissa’s warm personality is worlds apart from Succession’s ruthless Shiv Roy, whom Snook describes as being “internally kind of cold and very stiff and presented. And Marissa, there’s warmth. And so much of it came from costuming. We’ve got knits and we’ve got cozy jumpers, and we’ve got things that . . . kind of like we’re trying to find a way to keep that warmth alive — even though she’s going through the hellscape of having her child go missing.”
So how would Shiv react if she found herself in Marissa’s shoes? “Oh, that’s a good one,” Snook responds. “How would she react? I mean, there would be so much arm’s-length distance parenting from Shiv that she would barely be involved with the child, but then having the child taken away . . . she’d call in all the favours. She would throw money at the situation and probably get it resolved.” ■

QWhat’s it like watching such a deeply personal film with audiences?
AI didn’t think I would like it. I don’t want people watching me watch my own film. It’s awkward enough. And what I discovered instead was . . . Getting older is funny. I find that I’m very sentimental, and I will cry at the drop of a hat. If I see someone else becoming emotional, I fall to pieces, and that is what I’m discovering with the screenings.
If I find that any part of my story is making anybody share themselves or become vulnerable, I absolutely lose it. I stop what I’m doing and we have to hug. All of us are losing our parents as we get older, many of us have gone through divorces, the kids are in university and beyond. A lot of these old skateboarders are empty nesters! So, people are having to redefine their lives, and sometimes all we still have is this weird little generational sense of community where we can chuckle at our old skinned knees from the half-pipe and our old snowboarding injuries.
QOn that note, what’s it like performing songs today that you wrote in your 20s, when you were a different person?
A I’ve learned that you can put out as much new music as you want . . . [fans] don’t wanna hear the “new record.” That’s something that I had to come to terms with. They just want to hear “I Love Myself Today” and “Spaceman.” And then you wind up falling in love with those songs again because it’s just joyful to perform them. You have to look at people like Tina

And also, many of our wounds go unhealed throughout our lives, and you can still feel them.
Q You penned a memoir not that long ago, I, Bificus. What fresh territory do you and your director tackle in the doc?
AOne thing I never spoke about in my book was the joy of all the stalkers and criminal harassment that we dealt with over the years. We were not allowed to talk about it at all in our HarperCollins publication — and at the time that book came out, it was a real problem in my world. As someone who’s been in the spotlight so long, do the insecurities of that intense scrutiny ever go away?
A My guitar player, Doug [Fury], we’ve been playing together since ’96 or whenever it was. His new motto is: “It doesn’t matter.” When we used to get so worked up about gig posters or the rental or gas . . . now he just laughs, because it doesn’t matter. That’s something that comes with age. The insecurities and the imposter syndromes and all that worry, it really does just kind of fall off your back.

They are like very tiny powerplants that produce energy in every living cell of our bodies. On average, every cell has 1,500 mitochondria. Can you imagine that for their extremely small size, it’s been said that they produce, gram for gram, 10,000–50,000 times more energy than the sun?
To say that mitochondria are important to human health is grossly understating their role in our

survival. We literally would not be alive without them. They convert our food into energy, so that every other function of our body can occur as it needs to. As we age, our ability to create healthy mitochondria to support our energy demands diminishes. And because about 90% of our cellular energy is produced by mitochondria, this decline can cause significant health issues
