FOLLOWING A THREE YEAR-LONG OVERHAUL OF ITS EQUIPMENT, track, and amenities, The Broadmoor Manitou and Pikes Peak Cog Railway is ready for its grand reopening this May — as well as its 130th birthday celebration!
The historic railway began operation in 1891 and has carried generations of passengers to the summit of Pikes Peak, known as America’s mountain. Recognized as the world’s highest cog railroad, a special engine on these cars is fitted with a cog wheel that fits into a special track and safely pulls or slows the train along steep inclines.
The railway has been carefully maintained over the years, but after more than a century of use it became clear that significant upgrades and investments were needed to keep the railway running for the next hundred years. After a three-year rehabilitation project, the line and equipment have been completely upgraded with new track, new trains, and a re-imagined depot. We also built a new snowblower engine, and partnered with the City of Colorado Springs to build a new visitor's center.
While the entire experience of riding the railway has been enhanced, rest assured that the journey itself and the iconic, breathtaking views as you ride nine miles to the summit of Pikes Peak remain the same.

A host of exciting enhancements highlight the summer season at Sea Island.
Sea Island opened in 1928 as a “friendly little hotel” on the southern coast of Georgia. Ever since, the Forbes Five-Star resort has been a treasured vacation destination for generations of guests. Like its sister resort, The Broadmoor, Sea Island is continually reinventing itself within its traditions.
The state-of-the-art, 17,000-square-foot Golf Performance Center is a prime example. Debuting in 2019, the center features six specialized hitting bays, a golf club workshop, golf-specific gym, locker rooms, and a world-class putting studio, as well as group spaces and a meeting room and veranda that overlook the St. Simons Sound. Bloomberg Businessweek likens the center to the “Mayo Clinic of Golf” in terms of its capacity to help analyze and improve anyone’s game. “Hitting bays open out to a manicured range with views of the Atlantic, and golfers can wire up to have their swings analyzed electronically,” the article says. “You can putt on an artificial green that generates its own humps and swales, complete with laser-beam projections of how they’ll break.
