Denim project Active street wear jeans We were asked to design a denim collection in collaboration with Lee Cooper Jeans, looking at how to refresh the company for the UK market. I designed a casual menswear collection aimed at the urban sportsman, in particular skateboarding and rollerblading. The project addressed the company’s social and environmental responsibility, exploring ways to raise awareness about environmental issues and promote a more community conscious attitude. Inspired by a blend of both concrete and natural environments and the culture of skating, these jeans are prepared for the stress of an active outdoor lifestyle. The distressed look accommodates for the wear and tear that comes from such sports, lengthening the aesthetic life of the product. Maximized comfort and movement and reinforced to last as long as possible, these jeans accomplish sustainability through durability.

Water project Summer wetsuit Design and make a swimwear garment for a watersport. ‘I left my soul there, down by the sea. I lost control there, living free’ – Morcheeba I designed, developed and tested a summer wetsuit inspired by a love for a lifestyle by the sea. For the young, active, daring yet still feminine girl who wants to feel confident in a wetsuit. The design was informed by my experiences of watersports in Cornwall such as coasteering, cliff jumping, kayaking, surfing and swimming. The wetsuit aims to capture an enthusiasm for being adventurous, positive and sociable. This was achieved through a vibrant colour palette and carefully positioned panels that follow the lines of the female form for both comfort and a flattering effect.

Snow project Freestyle skiing jacket Design and make an outerwear outfit for a discipline of skiing. I chose freestyle skiing, focusing on the Newschool style in both urban and terrain park environments. The main inspiration for the design came from looking at the culture of the sport, in particular the use of social media such as website forums and You Tube to share and show off new tricks and gear. These video edits led me to explore the relationship between freestyle skiing and music. How music culture can influence both riding and clothing styles. The result is a lightweight jacket that takes aesthetic inspiration from the American baller style and its surrounding urban music scene. This is combined with performance and adjustable features that allow the garment to translate from the mountain to the street.

Graduate collection The current condition of the environment, financial world and geopolitics is becoming increasingly destructive, greedy and unstable. In particular the fashion industry thrives on a consumerist culture where trends come and go at speed, promoting a materialistic and wasteful lifestyle. This needs to change. AS365 is a men’s performance outerwear collection that has been designed in retaliation to the current attitude of throwaway fashion. Every garment is made from re-appropriated army surplus, deconstructing materials that would be thrown away and reconstructing them into wearable and functional clothing. The collection can be applied to range of outdoor pursuits in both urban and alpine environments such as snowboarding, skiing, post-surfing, hiking and skating yet is also desirable street wear. The target customer is 23-35, urban dwelling and in a creative profession such as architecture, graphic design and fashion. They are active, artistic and environmentally aware. They skate in the city, surf and camp on weekends and snowboard on holidays in Europe. They are more attracted to style, quality and function than flashy current trends. AS365 not only aims to eradicate waste through recycling but by also encouraging a healthier and wiser approach to shopping. Clothing should be bought for their quality, durability and usefulness. This is achieved through a rustic yet subtle aesthetic, strong construction techniques and practical design features.
