Big Day Out

Interstate musician, Ajak Kwai & band

Big Day Out in Harmony this year will be held from 12-4.30pm on 4 June 2022 on the Council lawns, Todd Street. Come and join us for a fantastic celebration of the many cultures in Alice Springs! There will be dance, performances, and food, as well as a range of activities for both kids and adults alike to enjoy. This year we will also have a special performance from Ajak Kwai, Australia’s renowned song woman of contemporary South Sudanese music! Harmony Day is a United Nations-recognised global celebration that began in 1999. Officially held on March 21, it coincides with the UN International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination and has been enthusiastically embraced by MCSCA as a community celebration in Alice Springs in early May, although this year the event is in early June. We call this event Big Day Out in Harmony. Each year, MCSCA invites all the multicultural groups and associations to participate in the event, to share some of their culture with the wider community. After months of rehearsals, it comes together on a day filled with colours, sounds, fragrances and tastes from across the world.

Celebrating the vibrancy of our town with community events like Harmony Day is an important part of Multicultural Community Services of Central Australia’s work, ensuring that Alice Springs is a welcoming place for all. For more information on Big Day Out in Harmony, head to www.mcsca.org.au If you can’t make it on the day, this year we will also do be doing a live video stream! This event is proudly sponsored by Alice Springs Town Council and the Northern Territory Government.
