SENIOR DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER
Alice Di
Giammartino
Born in Teramo, I attended the science-focused A. Einstein High School on the PNI course. After finishing school I attended the Politecnico di Milano, where I studied Product Design followed by an MSc in Design Engineering.
I learned to develop industrial products with manufacturing-production in mind, using renewable and innovative materials. I have learned how to develop new products which improve and innovate existing ones. I acquired the skills to demonstrate such appliances with sketches, technical drawing, 3D computer modelling, whilst also learning rapid prototyping techniques. My studies have taught me to be detail-oriented, observant, and to have a good technical knowledge and understanding of materials and productions methods.
The Politecnico gave me the opportunity to start a double degree course in Mechanical Engineering at the École Centrale de Nantes, France. There, I was put outside my comfort zone and exposed to new ideas, socially and scientifically, which forced me to

adapt. Whilst in France, I completed a six-month internship in Paris at Parrot, the second largest drone manufacturer in the world. There, I developed a customised carrying case on the Anafi Ai drone in collaboration with my supervisor and external consultant Philippe Starck. This opened my mind to different perspectives which will no doubt influence my vision for future projects.
I am currently working in Food preservation at Electrolux Susegana (Italy) where I am involved in all stages of Research and Development of freestanding refrigerators. My task is to analyse the 3D’s assemblies, observe the prototypes and propose improvements. I am also in charge of correcting BOMs, 2D drawings, following DFM, DFMEAs DVT, MVT phases with active participation in highlighting critical points, giving also practical solutions.
In the following pages there is a collection of projects I worked on during university and during my internship.

01 Anafi Ai travel case
The project is a travel case for the Anafi Ai drone, made with support of Parrot designers and external consultant Philippe Starck. The idea of the is that of a smooth egg that protects and encloses all valuable components inside.
Everything is designed to be quick and comfortable. Thanks to the double lever system, the user can open the clips without too much effort. Furthermore, once the case is opened each element is ready to be used.

The idea was to have a smooth egg-like exterior.

how it works
Performance
Lightweight and durable, the case made of PP423 has an integrated self-pressure valve able to regulate the atmospheric pressure changes.
The interiors
Made from an algaebased material, the interior is moulded to perfectly accommodate the drone and its accessories.

02 alpha
Alpha is an intelligent kitchen assistant that mixes ingredients and is inspired by the motion of a cement mixer.
Thanks to the combination of inclined and rotating basket this appliance is able to mix without the need for further mechanisms.
Alpha also facilitates leavening processes and improves cooking by managing temperature and humidity
The slope
We have decided to exploit the force of gravity by tilting the entire basket, without compromising the correct growth of the dough.

concept
The basket
For mixing the ingredients without using a rotating scoop, we decided to study the shape of the basket. The idea was to induce disturbances using protrusions and indentations.
17
The internal humidity and temperature are modified due to a temperature sensor controlling a fan. A fixed metal basket guarantees a homogeneous diffusion of the heat produced by a coil.
It is possible to monitor the process thanks to a lid equipped with a double glass and a LED strip. Due to the fan it is possible to manage the humidity and also to cool the bread after baking.

the app
Thanks to the app it is created community where the user can find recipes and create his own.
It is possible to see the necessary time as well as all the ingredients for the recipe.
It is also possible to check the time remaining even if the user is not in the kitchen.

U-go
U-go is an autonomous vehicle made in collaboration with e-Novia. It has been designed to free the user from having to carry luggage through the city.
In the world of fast travel, the product will cover the last mile of the luggage route, from the station to the hotel, and vice versa.
It will allow the “fast” traveler to gain as much time as possible to arrive on time to work or at the same time enjoying the city without stress.

arianna
In many universities the freely accessible seats are limited to low and uncomfortable walls that lack the chance to rest one’s shoulders or place food on them while having a lunch break.
Arianna is a foldable seat that can be placed anywhere in order to allow a comfortable seating on the ground.
At the same time it is easily transportable and resistant thanks to the support of the wings that are arranged in the correct position automatically when the user opens it. The thread echoes the Greek mythology and also inspired the name “Arianna”.

Leaft was designed while thinking of new ways to make the life of older citizen safer.
We discovered that the most of the injuries happen at home due to inappropriate footwear as well as a false sense of security.
For this reason we thought of a solution that was less invasive than a walker and that allowed to support the movement of “walking” and “bending”. Leaft has an excellent grip, is easy to carry around due to its low weight, yet it is strong and durable.

The user must press the button (red in the figure) that acts as a block. The narrower part of the stick will begin to move inside the wider cylinder, compressing the spring and the piston, while the weight of the user will keep the stick in position. To return a small movement will be sufficient so that the spring and piston start their ascending movement, accompanying the user.
