‘I FELT I MIGHT ACTUALLY DIE OF LAUGHTER’

THE INDEPENDENT

WELCOME Welcome to the Alexandra Theatre’s latest season brochure. I am delighted to present another season of live theatre with a wide variety of shows sure to appeal to every taste. This holiday season is a season of silliness at the Alex with four weeks of the Tony award winning musical, Monty Python’s Spamalot. This hilarious musical phenomenon is coming to Birmingham direct from huge success on Broadway and London’s West End. Led by Olivier award winning actor Matthew Kelly star of You’ve Been Framed and the legendary Stars In Your Eyes the nation’s favourite Nancy – Jodie Prenger and EastEnders’ Todd Carty, the superbly talented cast are guaranteed to leave you looking on the bright side of life. If you would like to keep up to date with all the latest shows and news from the theatre, please visit our website at www.alexandratheatre.org. uk and sign up to our mailing list or follow the links to join us on Facebook or Twitter. The Alexandra Theatre has been entertaining the city of Birmingham and beyond since 1901. If you would like to learn more about our historic building why not join one of our guided theatre tours? I do hope you enjoy browsing through this brochure. With our Autumn programme including Richard O’Brien’s Rocky Horror Show just before Halloween, there’s lots of fun to be had as the nights draw in. For those with young families Postman Pat is the ideal treat and there is a wide variety of comedy for the adults with Chris Addison, Mark Watson and Ross Noble to name just a few. There’s a great choice in live music as Marc Almond returns to the Alex this season and both Lee Mead and the Saw Doctors visit for the first time. With stellar concerts, great musicals and a host of entertainment, I am sure I will be welcoming you back to the theatre in the very near future. Andrew Lister General Manager 1

JESUS RETURNS TO ROCK BIRMINGHAM ‘QUOTE QUOTE QUOTE’ ATTRIBUTION

Copy goes here

In 1972 Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Jesus Christ Superstar exploded on to the West End stage. The Musical would never be the same again. Now this astonishing musical is back. Rice and Lloyd Webber’s famous rock opera highlights the political and interpersonal struggles of Judas Iscariot and Jesus of Nazareth. Based on the Gospel of St. John, it is an account of the last seven days in the life of Jesus , beginning with the preparation for Jesus and his follower’s arrival in Jerusalem and ending with the Crucifixion. Returning to Birmingham this November, WBOS’ imaginative and powerful new production reminds us that no musical before or since has been able to touch audiences with quite the same emotional impact. 1
