George St Apartment building was designed with the intention of connecting spaces through green areas. The intricate program accommodates both commercial and residential spaces that are broken down by exotic gardens that enhance the users experience. The building’s main feature is a sloped roof that was created by pushing and pulling masses until achieving a form that connects different levels through a ramp. This carefully designed shape allows for the creation of angles that condition each space in a unique way

When it came to the massing of the complex, neighboring building shapes and proportions where taking into consideration. The creation of a central courtyard that would be surrounded by the apartment units was crucial to the design of this building. Since in a typical afternoon a building receives 15 ft. of direct light, and 15 ft. of indirect light, by designing a central courtyard and surrounding it by 60 ft. pavillions I am making sure each side welcomes natural light. A smaller garden was created as a transitional space from the commercial and ammenity spaces to the residential units.

GLULAM TIMBER STRUCTURE The upper strcuture is composed of glued-laminated timbers. Glu-lam beams and columns use wood efficiently, since they are engineered and cut off site, ensuring materials are efficiently used. Glu lams also eliminate weak points caused by deformations in the tree STEEL CONNECTIONS Reinforcing timber structure
CONCRETE COLUMNS/ FLOOR PLATES FOR BASE Concrete used on the bottom of the construction, where it is most needed to carry the loads of the building, hold back the earth, taking advantage of its flexibility, affordability, and capacity to handle enormous amounts of compression.
The intent of this building was to accomodate the growing number of students who move to Charleston North Carolina to attend school. The apartment complex has one, two, and three bedroom apartments, it also counts with upscale loft apartments, all with views to the city and inner gardens. The complex also counts with commercial and shared amenity spaces located on the north side of the building where the main entry is, this way people nearby can make use of the installations without trespassing to the residential wing. Being located in a dense area, the building counts on a two level parking garage for residents and neighboring vicinity to use.
The buidling counts with amenity spaces such as a gymnasium, yoga studios, retail, cafe, restaurants, media rooms, a convenience store and a library; yet the highlight of the complex is a ramp that connects different parts of the building while allowing a transition through the edifice into into the famous “skyline obersvatory.

Skidaway Sanctuar’s objective is to create a building that is not merely placed on a site, but enhances it with a shape and design that complement the land.
The geometrical shape of the building follows the lines of the topography creating a cohesive environment . The massing of this building comes together by layering pavillions of different functions into one complex building. The captivating shape will provide a unique experience in each area of the sanctuary.
