History has always been our greatest teacher. Be it on the battlefield, the laboratory, or the round table. One of its greatest lessons however, is that things change. New technologies, new ideas, new art, all of them threaten to upend the status quo. Just as gunpowder changed the face of war permanently, so did the computer change the face of work permanently. Given this knowledge, it seems easy to disregard any sort of tradition as less than useless. But this ignores that without the achievements of the ancients, the progress of today would be impossible. So listen to your elders, out of respect, but understand their limits, and most importantly, think for yourself.
