01 BLACKSMITH WORKSHOP 2016_studio Raketoplรกn_group_ competition #revitalisation #materiality #small scale #preservation #Prague Commercial competition project developed in studio Raketoplรกn for a client who wanted to revitalise an old blacksmith workshop near Prague castle. Our project was awarded the 1st prize. The construction has started in spring 2017. Our idea was very simple, we wanted to use traditional materials like wood, bricks and metal in a modern way of course there were certain restriction due to the fact that the building is located in heritage zone in Prague.

02 CHAPEL OF SILENCE 2016_Eindhoven University of Technology_individual_ academic #chapel #materiality #meditation # concrete texture #tectonics The project was awarded 1st prize from AnArchi for the best masterproject at TU Eindhoven. The course was headed by ir. R.R.W.I. Kindt, ir. R.P.G. Brodruck and ir. W. Hilhorst and focused on tectonics, the poetics of architecture. The project started with close reading of a book called “Studies in Tectonic Culture” by Kenneth Frampton, continuing with small assignment and finished with public building design. Concept is based on sound/noise absorption and reflection. There are two possibilities how to reduce noise levels, the first is by noise absorption and the other one is by noise reflection so producing of any sound or noise would by incredibly unpleasant. This idea was later on transformed into wall texture on the outside and in the inside. The outside wall surface is bumpy in order to express the noisy world (absorption of noise), while the surface inside chapel is completely glossy, intact surface, reflecting all the nose which might be produced inside. Whole building is designed as a walked-through space in order to guide through the process of self-knowledge. Starting outside, going “through” the water - crossing the border between quiet and busy world and then entering the main “nave” - involving other then visual perception, exiting the “nave” to the bench, which is above the ground level in order to stay on top of things. Very poetic.

03 LA CITTĂ IDEALE 2017_Eindhoven University of Technology_individual_ academic #urbanism #ideal architecture #big scale #theory #courtyard #Antwerp #collective building The course was headed by ir. Wouter Hilhorst and it focused on urban and architectural qualities of a city, moreover it focused on ideal “proportionsâ€? of a city. A site in Antwerp was chosen in order to have some context, however the project started as tabula rasa so masterplan was designed first, followed by individual design projects. Concept is based on an advantage that the building can reach two completely different streets with completely different characters. My proposed residential complex combines the position in the block with the idea of polycentric city. It connects two streets which have two diametrically different characters, creating space for small communal library and local office building. Ground floors next to streets are designated for commercial use, therefore entrances to residential buildings have moved to the courtyard where the entrances to the library and office are. This creates more quiet and calm courtyard, which is separated from the busy streets, however still having lively character. There are two types of residential building layouts. One is classical staircase and the other one gallery building layout. Every apartment is oriented towards one of the streets and into the courtyard in order to get qualities of both of them, in terms of privacy, light, ventilation and noise. My idea was to design a building, which improves the urban space as well as it has architectural qualities in every detail, therefore a lot of details in communal areas were designed. T-building is human scale building, creating space for small community consisting of two residential buildings and small office and a library.

04 RESEARCH STATION 2012_Czech Technical University_ individual_academic #nature #materiality #small cabin #laminated timber #artefact This is my first year project at CTU (Czech Technical University) at the beginning of my bachelor studies. The assignment was to design a research station for two environmentalists in an old unused limestone quarry called Alkazar and think about other functions that might suit the location. The quarry is located on a trail which goes from Srbsko to Beroun following the Berounka river. In order to give you an overview of wider context, the site is located 50km from Prague, it’s very popular location for climbers because the valley surrounding Berounka river is formed by limestone rocks. Our proposal had to contain a bedroom for two people, a kitchen and a toilet and other functions which we think are suitable for that location. As I mentioned above the location is popular for climbers and hikers, therefore my idea was to create a meeting point with basic facilities like toilets and refreshment shop. These two functions are split in order to allow a maximal independency My concept is based on the shape of the quarry and story called Metamorphosis written by Czech writer Franz Kafka, which allows me to create a vantage point over the valley. However the whole structure of the station is designed as an old artefact, discovered during mining. The station is designed as laminated timber structure in order to be in contrast with stone and emphasise the artefact-like appearance, more over it creates a tension between the stereotomic mass and tectonic wooden structure sitting on the rock.

05 SUPERSTUDIO 2014_Glasgow School of Art_ individual_academic #art school #collaboration #gesamtkunstwerk #GSA extension #skin & bones #Glasgow I came to Glasgow School of Art few months after the destructive fire which burned down the Mack building, which was the heart of Glasgow School of Art. This accident initiated my thoughts about new building for the art school. It was a perfect opportunity to continue the sequence of GSA buildings and also an opportunity to introduce GSA to Sauchiehall street, one of the main streets in Glasgow. When I thought about what is the education at art school about and what is the vision of education at art school. I made a little research how art schools have changed over the course of years by looking at Bauhaus aims and I realised that art schools became less integrated and departments become more individualistic and less interconnected, which means that each department became more independent on other disciplines. That’s exactly what the proposed building should offer – collaboration, interconnection and informal communication. My aim is to restore the idea about collaborative, creative community.

06 SMRČNÁ_INTERIOR 2017_AM freelancer_individual_ commercial #wood #interior #summer house #materiality #craft #beer #south Bohemia Summer house located in marvellous village in South Bohemia in Czech Republic. Forests, fields and ponds, raw nature, nothing more, that is Smrčná. Kitchen design was proposed with respect to overall minimalist architectural expression, using raw materials such as oak wood and slate, however with pinch of Czech temperament and with passion to craft, beer and cooking. The design is influenced by traditional joiner’s work, combining it with modern technology resulting in modern design language.

07 HOUSE WITHOUT FUNCTION 2016_AM freelancer_in collaboration with Petra Moravcova_student competition #pure architecture #materiality #bricks #archetype Essential and fundamental architectural values brought the thinking deeply into classical antiquity, where the precision and excellence came into existence. Archetype, scale and paradigm. Taking archetypes themselves as a strong base, allowed us to think from two different points of view. The first works with pure shapes and volumes. The second, psychological, is acting in horizontal way. Connection of archetypes as beads on the thread, where individuality as way of a person goes through. Structure of archetypes might be read also vertically timelessly – like imaginary onion slices coating the core of psyche – the essential me. Articulation justifies its existence in the space between the earth, which is fixed by its material and the sky, whom the roof opens vertically through the skylight. Ground floor at it‘s horizontality conceives as main transitional space between inside and outside, the centre with fireplace as catalyst of traditional family life.

I have chosen a row house in Amsterdam, designed by MEESVISSER office. I have chosen this building because of the materials used in construction. The main material used for the load bearing structure was wood, CLT panes (cross laminated timber) exactly.

09 RELEIGH RECORD SPRINT 2015_AM freelancer_individual_ personal project #raw material #high-end materials #product design #bike #cycling forever This project began when I moved to Glasgow to study architecture at Glasgow School of Art. Bike was the cheapest mean of transport, hence I bought this old and rusty Releigh Records Sprint, a road bike made in Nottingham in 1988. My intention was to emphasise the steel work of the frame because it was the only original part left, therefore the frame is painted on mate, transparent paint, which looks just gorgeous. I wanted to keep the maintenance very simple because the bike will be used daily in all weather conditions. This led to a reduction of mechanical parts and use of high end materials like carbon, titanium and stainless steel. As a side effect I managed to reduce the weight significantly. I had no previous experience with renovating bicycles however it was enriching experience, during which I built a strong relationship to cycling and now I cycle almost everywhere.
