Student Health Services
Fundraising All fundraising efforts that involve raising money from audiences outside current faculty, staff, and students must be approved by the Office of Institutional Advancement two weeks in advance. For more information on that process, please visit www.albion.edu/fundraising/. Fundraising initiatives that only target current faculty, staff, and students (e.g., bake sales, entry fees to events, jar donations, and similar activities) and take place exclusively on campus do not need Institutional Advancement approval.
It is the mission of Student Health Services to provide holistic and comprehensive care to Albion College students. Emphasis is placed on preventative health care and self-care development. Student Health Services (SHS), located at 1003 E. Cass St., is staffed by two registered nurses, Monday through Friday. The College physician or a physician assistant is at SHS 10 hours per week. During business hours, students should call ext. 0220. Students needing care after hours may visit the online SelfCare Guide (www.albion.edu/shs/), contact the Department of Campus Safety, call the after-hours telephone triage support service, or go to the Oaklawn Hospital emergency room. Oaklawn Hospital is located 12 miles to the west in Marshall at 200 N. Madison. To reach the hospital main switchboard, call the local number, 629-2630. Services available through Student Health Services include, but are not limited to, emergency first aid, allergy injections, medical consultation and treatment, referrals for additional treatment, diagnostic laboratory testing, immunizations, physicals, and gynecological exams. Charges are based on services provided and medications dispensed. Health forms and updated immunizations are required of all incoming students. Completed records including evidence of immunizations must be on file. Questions regarding the services provided should be directed to Student Health Services.
Campus Safety The Department of Campus Safety is staffed by professional officers and dispatchers, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. All officers are trained extensively in fire safety, first aid, building security, personal safety, multicultural awareness, and crisis intervention. Located at 1003 E. Cass St., Campus Safety can be reached 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, by calling ext. 1234 (campus phone), or 517/629-1234 (cell phone). Emergencies should be reported by calling ext. 0911 (campus phone) or 517/629-0911 (cell phone). Detailed information on the Department of Campus Safety’s responsibilities and services, as well as campus crime statistics, is given in Chapter IV, Appendix E.
