Con el fin de preservar el entorno natural y protegerse de las crecidas del agua del mar, se toma como punto de partida el diseño de estructuras ligeras de madera elevadas con respecto al terreno natural, Las cubiertas son a dos aguas, terminadas en hoja de palma, poniendo en valor así la tradición de la arquitectura vernácula del caribe.
El proyecto se subdivide en 2 partes: -Un pequeño hotel, de 8 habitaciones conformado por 4 cabañas en dos alturas, conectadas entre si por pasarelas elevadas de maderas y precedidas por una cabaña de recepción. -Una gran palapa abierta de madera que alberga el Beach Club.
Mi función fue la de idear, diseñar y liderar el desarrollo del proyecto, desde su primera concepción hasta el proyecto de ejecución.
in order to preserve the natural environment and protect it from rising sea water, the starting premise was to design light wooden structures elevated above the natural terrain. The roofs are gabled, finished in palm leaves, thus highlighting the tradition of Caribbean vernacular architecture. The project is subdivided into two parts: -A small hotel, with 8 rooms organised in 4 cabins, 2 stores each, connected by elevated wooden walkways and preceded by a reception.
-A large wooden “palapa” that houses the Beach Club.
My role was to design and lead the development of the project, from its first conception to the execution project.

MUSEO DEL CARIBE NOVAL PROPERTIES
El proyecto busca albergar una colección muy variada que permitirá explicar las islas del caribe, desde su formación geológica, hasta el arte contemporáneo, pasando por su fauna, la cultura taína y la colonización. Se encuentra situado dentro de un desarrollo residencial y hotelero con edificaciones circulares. Se propone la ocupación de dos terrenos “residuales” de similar geometría separados por una avenida principal, generando un edificio puente. Tomando como referencia geometrías de la cultura taína (el triángulo y la espiral) se propone un recorrido lineal en loop alrededor de dos cilindros (una en cada terreno) entorno a los cuales se van desarrollando los espacios expositivos.
Mi función fue la de idear y diseñar la concepción del proyecto, y liderar el desarrollo del mismo, colaborando estrechamente y desde las primeras fases del proyecto con el equipo de Museografía contratado.
The project seeks to house a varied collection that will explain the Caribbean islands, from their geological formation to its fauna, Taino culture, colonization and contemporary art. It is located within a residential development with circular buildings. It is then proposed to occupy two “residual” plots of land of similar geometry separated by a main avenue, creating a “bridge” building. Taking as a reference geometries of the Taino culture (the triangle and the spiral), w e generated a linear loop around two cylinders (one in each lot) around which the exhibition spaces are developed.
My role was to devise and design the conception of the project, and lead its development, working closely and from the early stages of the project with the Museography team hired.

El proyecto se desarrolla y articula mediante un gran paseo cubierto central, que a su vez permite ir salvando los desniveles entre las distintas plataformas en que se asientan los distintos cuerpos construidos
Todos los cuerpos se estructuran de manera idéntica, con pórticos de madera laminada encolada (MLE) cuya repetición cada 3,66m permite mantener secciones de madera razonables, que facilitan una ejecución rápida, tanto en su fabricación como en su montaje.
Mi responsabilidad en el proyecto fue elaborar la totalidad de sus fases, desde su primera concepción hasta el proyecto de ejecución. Especialmente relevante fue la estrecha coordinación y revisión del proyecto estructural, elaborado en Chile, y del resto de proyectos de especialidades, que fueron ejecutados por la contraparte mexicana.
The project is developed and articulated by means of a large central covered walkway, which connects the different platforms on which the constructed bodies are located.
All the bodies are structured in an identical way, with glued laminated timber (GLULAM) porches whose repetition every 3.66m allows to maintain reasonable wood sections, which facilitates a quick execution, both in its manufacture and in its assembly.
My responsibility in the project was to elaborate all its phases, from its first conception to the execution project. Particularly relevant was the close coordination and review of the structural project, developed in Chile, and the rest of the specialty projects, which were executed by the Mexican counterpart.

Este gran edificio, de 122m de longitud y un desarrollo en 3 plantas + sótano, culmina el conjunto de Pregrado en el Campus de Peñalolén, Santiago de Chile, de la Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez, otorgándole una gran biblioteca central, salas de clase, salas de estudio y oficinas para el profesorado.
El edificio, tal y como ocurre en el resto del Campus, genera una gran vacío central en torno al que se articula todo el programa.
La luz natural penetra de manera suave y homogénea gracias a los numerosos lucernarios que pueblan su cubierta.
Mi papel en este proyecto fue dirigir y elaborar la totalidad de sus fases, desde su primera concepción hasta el proyecto de ejecución, la dirección facultativa y recepción final.
This large building, 122m long and developed over 3 floors + basement, culminates the undergraduate complex at the Peñalolén Campus, Santiago de Chile, of the Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez, providing a large central library, classrooms, study rooms and offices for the faculty.
The building, as in the rest of the campus, generates a large central void around which the entire program is articulated.
Natural light penetrates in a soft and homogeneous way thanks to the numerous skylights that populate its roof.
My role in the project was to lead and elaborate all its phases, from its first conception to the execution project, the project management and final reception.

[5]LODGE EXPLORA EL CHALTÉN

Este lodge, de 20 habitaciones, es el primer establecimiento hotelero de Explora que se ejecuta mediante el ensamblaje in situ de módulos prefabricados por la empresa Ecolodge. Dichos módulos se fabricaron y terminaron bajo techo en la ciudad de Mendoza, para luego viajar en camión hasta el lugar donde finalmente se emplaza, en la patagonia argentina.
Este nuevo sistema representó un gran reto, tanto para la oficina de arquitectura, como para la constructora, quienes nunca antes habían ejecutado un edificio de más de una altura con este sistema. Requirió por ello de un intenso trabajo colaborativo, tanto en la fase de diseño como en las soluciones constructivas.
Dirigí todo el proceso en colaboración constante con Ecolodge, hasta la elaboración del proyecto de ejecución.
This 20-room lodge is Explora’s first hotel establishment to be built by assembling on site prefabricated modules, made by the company Ecolodge. These modules were manufactured and finished indoors in the city of Mendoza, and then traveled by truck to the place where it is finally located, in Patagonia, Argentina.
This new system represented a great challenge for both the architectural office and the construction company, who had never before executed a building of more than one height. with this system. It therefore required an intense collaborative work, both in the design phase and in the construction solutions.
I directed the whole process in constant collaboration with Ecolodge, from the very first concept up to the execution project.

Este nuevo edificio para el Campus de Viña del Mar de la Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez busca solventar una creciente demanda de salas de estudio para el alumnado y de oficinas para el profesorado. Además, aloja y reúne todos los laboratorios del Campus, antes dispersos en el mismo, en su planta baja.
Se trata de un cuerpo de 3 alturas, donde, tal y como ocurre en el resto de los edificios del campus, se propone un vacío central que articula y conecta todo el programa, iluminado cenitalmente mediante dos grandes lucernarios.
Mi rol en el proyecto fue dirigir y elaborar la totalidad de sus fases, desde su primera concepción hasta el proyecto de ejecución, la dirección facultativa y recepción final.
This new building for the Viña del Mar Campus of the Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez seeks to meet a growing demand for study rooms for students and offices for faculty. In addition, it houses and brings together all the laboratories of the Campus, previously scattered throughout it, on the first floor.
It is a three-story building, where, as in the rest of the campus buildings, a central void articulates and connects the entire program, illuminated from above by two large skylights.

[7]RECONSTRUCCIÓN HOTEL EXPLORA ATACAMA
JOSÉ CRUZ OVALLE Y ASOCIADOS (PROYECTO ORIGINAL: GERMÁN DEL SOL)
En octubre del 2015, el cuerpo central del Hotel Explora Atacama sufrió un incendio que hizo colapsar toda su cubierta, y devastó completamente su interior, quedando sólo en pie su estructura de hormigón armado.
Explora entonces nos encargó su reconstrucción, con el objetivo de poder reabrir el hotel apenas 6 meses después.
El reto fue mayúsculo: debía replantearse toda la cubierta y recomponer el trazado de la obra gruesa ejecutada, que no se correspondía con los planos del proyecto original. Además, se rediseñó todo el interior de acuerdo a las nuevas exigencias de Explora. Todo ello en tiempo récord.
En este caso lideré la elaboración del proyecto, desde el levantamiento de lo existente hasta el proyecto de ejecución, la dirección facultativa y recepción final.
In October 2015, the central body of the Explora Atacama Hotel suffered a fire that caused the collapse of its entire roof and completeley devastated its interior, leaving only its reinforced concrete structure standing.
Explora then commissioned us to rebuild it, with the aim of reopening the hotel just 6 months later.
The challenge was enormous: the entire roof had to be reconsidered and the layout of the rough construction work, which did not correspond to the original project plans, had to be reconstructed. In addition, the entire interior was redesigned according to Explora’s new requirements. All this was done in record time.
In this case I led the elaboration of the entire project, from the survey of the remains to the execution project, the project management and final reception.

Este hotel, el primero de Explora fuera de las fronteras de Chile, fue el primer proyecto en el que trabajé al entrar en la oficina de José Cruz Ovalle.
Al estar situado en una zona de patrimonio arqueológico, había sufrido muchos cambios y retrasos, dilatándose en el tiempo hasta 10 años desde el primer anteproyecto.
Situado entre andenes y muros incas, el proyecto se dibuja a lo largo de estos, configurando una serie de patios que van conectando los distintos cuerpos entre si.
En este proyecto fui el responsable de completar y poner en orden el proyecto de ejecución, ayudar en la dirección facultativa y en la recepción final, así como en la producción de imágenes realistas para su difusión.
This hotel, Explora’s first outside the borders of Chile, was the first project I worked on when I joined José Cruz Ovalle’s office.
Being located in an archaeological heritage area, it had undergone many changes and delays, taking up to 10 years from the first draft.
Located between platforms and Inca walls, the project is drawn along these, configuring a series of courtyards that connect the different bodies with each other.
In this project I was responsible for the completion and organization of the execution project. I was also part of the project management and final reception, and in charge of the production of realistic images for marketing.

Este concurso internacional buscaba ofrecer un nuevo Museo de Arte chileno en Santiago de Chile, promovido por la Fundación Engel.
Ubicado, en el extremo sur del Parque Bicentenario, la propuesta se articula entorno a dos grandes cubos, que albergan las dos salas principales del programa, en cuya intersección se disponen las circulaciones, abiertas a un gran vacío central que mira hacia el parque.
Dicha circulación es contínua, mediante una serie de rampas que atraviesan el hall central y van asomándose a ambos cubos.
Mis competencias en este concurso fueron la producción de la propuesta y de la totalidad del material gráfico entregado.
This international competition sought to offer a new Museum of Chilean Art in Santiago de Chile, promoted by the Engel Foundation.
Located at the southern end of the Bicentennial Park, the proposal is articulated around two large cubes, which house the two main halls of the program, at the intersection of which are arranged the circulations, open to a large central void facing the park.
This circulation is continuous, by means of a series of ramps that cross the central hall and look out onto both cubes.
My role in this competition was the production of the proposal and all the graphic material submitted.

ARAUCO CAMPUS CONTEST
La empresa forestal Arauco abrió este concurso con el fin de reunir todas sus oficinas en un único Campus en Concepción, y de promover el uso de la madera como material estructural para edificios en altura. Por ello, el requisito principal indicado en sus bases exigía la elaboración de todo el edificio en madera, en, por lo menos, 5 alturas.
Nuestra propuesta, que fue finalista, propone un gran edificio longitudinal compuesto por la repetición de dos marcos reticulados de MLE separados entre sí por un gran vacío central de anchura variable poblado de pilares de planta cruciforme que sostienen los lucernarios que iluminan de manera natural esta gran espacio interior.
Mi función dentro del equipo fue la producción, coordinación y supervisión de todas las entregas del concurso.
The Arauco forestry company opened this competition in order to bring together all its offices in a single campus in Concepción, and to promote the use of wood as a structural material for high-rise buildings. For this reason, the main requirement indicated in its bases demanded the elaboration of the whole building in wood, in at least 5 heights.
Our proposal, which was a finalist, proposes a large longitudinal building composed of the repetition of two reticulated MLE frames separated by a large central void of variable width populated by cruciform pillars that support the skylights that naturally illuminate this large interior space.

DESARROLLO URBANO PARTICIPATIVO EN GOPAL NAGAR
La propuesta, localizada en un barrio de la ciudad de Ahmedabad, India, parte de una reflexión sobre la gestión urbana y propone un modelo de desarrollo urbano basado en una profunda integración del usuario en la articulación vecinal.
La propuesta se divide en 2 grupos:
INFRAESTRUCTURAS: los edificios que conforman el proyecto. “Infraestructura” como “el conjunto de elementos necesarios para la creación y funcionamiento de una organización en el espacio”.
GREMIOS: las distintas tecnologías necesarios para desarrollar la propuesta, con una fuerte participación de los habitantes que sustentan y hacen posible la realización de las infraestructuras, empoderándolos y convirtiéndoles en actores principales en su creación y mantenimiento.
The project develops a complete urban management system, based on a profound integration with user’s design&work labour. The proposal is located in Ahmedabad, the capital of Gujarat, India.
The project is structured into 2 groups:
INFRASTRUCTURES: buildings that give physical form to the new neighbourhood, infrastructure is defined as the “set of elements necessary to create and operate a certain organization”.
GUILDS: the different technologies needed to develop the proposal, with a strong participation of the inhabitants who sustain and make possible the realization of the infrastructures.

ACetsam (Cooperation Area of the Architecture School of Madrid) was born from and for the students, under the premises that there was an urgent need to construct an alternative educational path in opposition to formal academical curriculum.
Truly convinced of this gap in the established educational plan, ACetsam consolidates itself in the Architecture School by organising periodical constructive workshops. marzo 2010 - TALLER POR HAITÍ primera actividad de ACetsam
ACetsam nace tras el terremoto en Haiti, unos meses antes de que comience la época del monzón.
Decidimos montar un gran taller de montaje de kits para enviar a Haiti. Cada kit consiste en un módulo de tienda mínima diseñado por nosotros y confeccionado con lonas publicitarias donadas por empresas locales.
ACetsam was launched a few months after the Haiti earthquake, and a few before the begin of the monsoon season.
We decide to organise a workshop to quickly build and set shelter kits, a modular system mounted with donated billboard canvas, and send them abroad.
DMH (Día Mundial del Hábitat) 2010 3 TALLERES con Basurama
Para el Día Mundial del Hábitat 2010 decidimos organizar 3 talleres constructivos diferentes. Para el primero se invita a Basurama (colectivo que indaga en la reutilización de residuos urbanos). Los otros dos abordan el conocimiento de sistemas de construcción low cost: Domocaña + Ferrocemento y Quincha + Beno.
3 different workshops were held during the World Habitat Day. The first one was held by Basurama (a colective that researches on the reuse of urban waste). The other two dealt with different low-cost constructive systems: Domocaña + Ferrocemento and Quincha + Beno.

DMH2011 - HANDMADE URBANISM con ZuloArk
Llamamos al colectivo Zuloark para que liderase un taller constructivo con el objetivo de dotar al patio de la escuela de un lugar de encuentro.
El taller se estructuró en 3 grupos. Cada uno quedó encargado de diseñar una cercha que, unida más tarde al resto, dio forma al mueble.
We decided to invite the architectural collective Zuloark to organise this workshop, with the goal of bringing life into the ETSAM courtyard.
Each of the 3 groups that took part in the activity built a wooden truss, which were then joined in order to complete a piece of funny public furniture.
DMH2012 - TALLER CANYAVIVA con Canyaviva
Para el 2012 conseguimos traer al colectivo Canyaviva, dedicado durante años a investigar las posibilidades constructivas de la caña.
Nos propusieron levantar un pequeño prototipo a base de 5 arcos de caña unidos entre sí. El taller quedó en su primera fase, dejando para un momento posterior su cubrición total.
In 2012 we managed to bring Canyaviva, a collective dedicated to the research and construction with structural canes.
Their proposal was to build a prototype made of 5 arches of different lengths joined together. The workshop remains uncovered, uncompleted waiting for a second future phase.

MEXIKO PRAKTIKUMSSEMINAR, TU BERLIN
AMPLIACIÓN DE LA COOPERATIVA DE MUJERES CAFETALERAS UMCAMIX
El proyecto de diseño y construcción en México, realizado durante una estancia Erasmus en La Technische Universität Berlin, supone un antes y un después en mi formación como arquitecto. Se trata de un taller dividido en 3 bloques:
DISEÑO: el programa comprendía la ampliación de la sede de una pequeña cooperativa de mujeres cafetaleras en Gudalupe Miramar, un pueblo en la Sierra Mixteca, Oaxaca. Se desarrolló en detalle para su ejecución.
CONSTRUCCIÓN de siete semanas en el lugar de destino, realizando físicamente lo que previamente se había diseñado y entrando en contacto con la población local.
DOCUMENTACIÓN: de vuelta en Berlin, desarrollo de una publicación sobre el proyecto.
The DesignBuild Studio of Mexico implied a radical shift in my understanding of architecture. It was structured in 3 blocks:
DESIGN: a small cooperative of coffe-grower women (UMCAMIX) needed an extension. It is located in Guadalupe Miramar, a remote village on top of the Sierra Mixteca, Oaxaca. A detailed project was developed for the next step.
CONSTRUCTION: 7 weeks working with our own hands in order to build up the project we had previously designed, in cooperation with local population.
DOCUMENTATION: back in Berlin, design and publication of a book about the project.

El OBSERVATORIO Y LAS ESTRELLAS
En ocasión de la Semana de la Arquitectura, el Museo de la Biblioteca Nacional decidió organizar un taller de introducción a la arquitectura para niños.
El encargo se planteaba en dos partes, una primera, breve y más teórica, y un taller práctico posterior. Además, el encargo incluía el diseño de una pequeña publicación.
Publicación y componente teórico avanzaban de la mano y ofrecían pinceladas sobre conceptos arquitectónicos como la escala y los planos, nociones sobre la arquitectura animal, conceptos de sostenibilidad, etc.
El taller práctico consistía en la creación, a partir de unas plantillas, de una ciudad ideal, realizada por el conjunto de alumnos que pasaban en el taller a lo largo de la semana.
On the occasion of the Week of Architecture, the Museum of the Spanish National Library decided to organize a workshop to introduce architecture to children.
The job was divided into two parts, one shorter and theoretical, and a longer practical workshop afterwards. In addition, a booklet was to be published and handed to the young participants.
The first part presented some architectural concepts, such as the scale and drawing plans, as well as showing animal architecture, key concepts of sustainability...
The workshop itself consisted, with the help of some previously designed stencils, in the creation of an ideal city growing gradually during the week.

NIETO Y SOBEJANO ARCHITECTS PRÁCTICA EN OFICINA DE BERLÍN
Concurso Neuer Augustinerhof, Nuremberg Neuer Augustinerhof Competition
El proyecto, ganador del tercer premio del concurso, propone un programa mixto en una manzana del centro histórico: viviendas, oficinas y bajos comerciales.
Mi colaboración consistió en el trabajo de la volumetría mediante un modelado en 3d y varias maquetas, así como la resolución de las fachadas. Además, participé en la maquetación de los paneles finales del concurso.
El proyecto ha sido publicado en la revista A+T, Hibrids II (a+t 34, ISSN 1132-6409, 2008).
This project, winner of a third prize in the competition, inserts a mixed program into a block located at the historic centre of Nuremberg.
Mi collaboration on the project consisted in working with the volume of the proposal (both on digital and physical models), the resolution of its fassades as well as the layout for the final presentation.
The project was published on the magazine A+T, Hibrids II

Ampliación del Museo Joanneum, Graz Museum Joanneum extension, Graz
La ampliación del museo Joanneum estaba en fase de proyecto de ejecución cuando llegué al estudio.
El proyecto propone enterrar el nuevo programa bajo la plaza del propio museo, dotando de acceso y luz a estos espacios por medio de grandes perforaciones vidriadas.
Mi trabajo consistió principalmente en realizar el modelado 3D de los conos de vidrio, extrayendo la geometría exacta de sus partes para su posterior construcción.
The extension for the Joanneum Museum was already on the detailed project stage when I entered the studio.
The new spaces are located under the museum public square, which are illuminated and given access to by a set of round glazed perforations.
My contribution was to complete the other half of the model shown in the left, as well as making a 3d model of each of the crystal cones, extracting their final form and divisions for construction.
