This prroject recieved a special mention at Design For Recycling Awards 2011, featuring the ADI-FAD “The Making Of” Exhibition in Barcelona and 1st International Conference in Intelligent Manufacturing in Portugal.

The justifications for ecodesign research conducted, beyond the previously targeted, have been prepared for multiple aspects that reflect the current situation surrounding the prevention of waste by different social actors.

Similarly, the attempt by CLD Group to improve itself, helping to strengthen and creating conducive conditions to allow the transition to a sustainable development, has references and key tools to move effectively from theory to practice.

Development of early concepts

Once the analysis phase is finished, the next phase is design. The first step was to generate different ideas, portrait robot to see where the final model could be directed to. Encompassing all types of trolley that had been seen so far in the analysis phase, there were finally outlined some preliminary models that tried to capture all this, and were suitable according the client preferences.

Development of the proposal. Technical implications of each concept

The first session served to discard some unworkable idea and merge some of them to start designing the final trolley proposal.

• Dematerialisation: 5 kg less than the previous model.

• Multifunction: Forecast of future scenarios for the separation of waste, litter, etc.

• Monomaterials

100% recyclable: Steel, Rubber, PP. Using 100% recycled materials: 2 / 3 of its weight: ABS: housing, PS Cover, Rubber: Tires

• 73% more efficient in the Production Phase than the old trolley according to Eco-Indicator 99 methodology

• Ease and speed of assembly in assembly workshops.

• Reduction in weight (5 kg) and volume respect to the previous CLD model.

• All suppliers and manufacturers are within a 30 km area, including the area where the trolley will operate in Barcelona city.

• Durability estimated at more than 8 years without any maintenance remarkable.

• Modular, scalable and adaptable to emerging needs: autumn leaves, etc.

• Easy dismantling of its components and fully recyclable with local infrastructure and labeling materials.

Along with the environmental assessment team, an array VEA was conducted to compare inter-and qualitative manner, the environmental improvements made to the new version of the car under ecodesign criteria, on the old version of the company following criteria for continuous improvement.

The trolley is prepared for selective collecting, incorporating two garbage bags instead of one.

Autonomous transoceanic Sailboat

ThE SPANISh MULTIDISCIPLINARY TEAM ESDI - RUCKERLYPSA, PARTICIPATES IN ThE 47Th

INTERNATIONAL NAUTIC ShOW IN BARCELONA, WhICh WILL TAKE PLACE FROM 8 TO 16 NOVEMBER 2008.

The design of the ship is free, with the only constraint of a maximum length of 4 meters and the fact of being propelled by the wind. Governed by a small microprocessor, is able to cope with 4,000 miles of navigation. In the sea the straight line is not always the quickest way and the little electronic brain will have to evaluate the possible weather conditions to get the appropriate courses independently and faster, all with any human intervention.

Before leaving, each team must choose a field of 50 kilometers in diameter along the line fixed, in the Caribbean.Between 40 and 60 days are estimated to complete the race. It wins the boat which crosses the Atlantic and reaches the finish line in the shortest time. To do so it will have to face storms, winds of over 50 knots, tropical storms and even hurricanes common in latitudes close to Ecuador.

Modeling and Rendering. Collaboration between Ruckerlypsa and ESDi university product department.

After the success of the Barcelona World Race, a milestone in Spanish ocean sailing, this new draft of autonomous sailboat will be an interesting opportunity that will give impetus to Spain well ahead of the technology in the field of sailing. The strength of the hull materials is vital. A boat of this length is likely to suffer repeated twists and shocks of waves due to the weather. Like its elder brothers from the World Race, this sailboat will use high-tech materials, such as carbon and kevlar.

To create a machine that can successfully overcome the Atlantic crossing, the hull’s design is as important as the sail plan, its appendices, the programming and the systems which he is endowed with. The ship will be completely self-sufficient, covered with photovoltaic panels, and with a power consumption that would allow the sailing for years without need to refuel, driven only by the force obtained through wind and solar energy. It will be equiped with anti-collision devices, fulfilling the RIPA rules, such as a radar reflector and AIS issuer.

Thus, it might be seen by manned vessels. The GPS will act like the “eyes” of the vessel, andground communications shall be effected through asatellite modem.

The position of the ships participating the race may be controlled thanks to the issue that every ship emits every 24 hours and can be accessed in the microtransat’s website.

Coffee Maker

Class project: Idea, design and rendering

Taurus Dueto Classic is a small and compact drip coffee maker.

The process of making a cup of coffee is designed to be understandable, clear and legible for the user. The coffee pot has two overtures above, one to spill the water and the other for depositing the ground coffee.

Elegance, sobriety, simplicity and especially, and order in the process of making coffee.

Once spilt, the water circulates ownwards along the resistance and warms up, rising towards the top part of the coffee pot. The diffuser placed in cover, drops the water already turned into steam inside the filter, being mixed by the ground coffee, and falls down through the mouthpiece towards both cups.

The shapes of the coffee pot are rounded and send us to the idea of the hourglass due to synthetic functioning and aspect.

Taurus classic Dueto classic is a redesign of its predecesor. Its compactness in putting up the cups and the mechanism to roll the cable allow the user to guard it without inconvenience.

“Wherever”

“Wherever”

In our current society we live in a stressing world where we do not have time to relax, to devote to the people we love or even to ourselves, to travel or enjoy the small pleasures of life. We waste all this time without being really aware of it. Is it a consequence of our society that we can not really fulfil our dreams and wishes nowadays?

If it does not allow us to find a gap to feel uninhibited, why don’t we create a space where everyone can feel so? “Wherever” is a space that allows users to anticipate new desires and necessities. Who would not want to arrive home at 10 p.m., open the door and find themselves in paradise? “Wherever” proposes a fo rmula that combines INNOVATION, TECHNOLOGY, AROMATHERAPY, MUSICTHERAPY and COLOUR THERAPY resulting in WELL-BEING, COMFORT, PLEASURE and FUN for all bathroom users, from the oldest to the youngest. The innovation can be appreciated in the new sinuous shapes, very pleasant to the touch and to the eye, as well as in the new applications that we offer in the bathrooms fixtures. Some examples of this are the attachment of the mirror and a set of accessories to the washbasin, the addition of a magazine holder to the toilet bowl and the union of the latter to the bidet, or the union of the bathtub and the shower with a space for towels and other types of accessories

Voda-Voda Premium Water Communication Campaign

These pieces are the result of the communication strategy for Vodavoda, a premium water in Serbia.

Knowing that our target audience only drinks luxurious water in restaurants, we were forced to partner with haute cuisine and inform future prescribers (students) and prescribers in the foodservice Premium.

With the strategy, the brand has created future prescribers with a differential seal: Designed by the fusion of disciplines. Thus, the brand creates a new concept in fine dining, differentiating premium waters.

This renderings show a dynamic space included at the first stage of the communication campaign, where we showed the cuisine students the idea of fusion.

Cemetery’s Morgue of Montjuïc (Barcelona)

Rendering. Idea and project by architect Emma Gascón

This morgue is designed to be facility for public use, owned and managed by Funeral Services of Barcelona. The building is located next to the northern access of the Montjuic cemetery bordering a concave portion along the “Passeig del Migdia” and heading to the cemetery fence. On the west side there is the current parking area of the cemetery and in the middle east the vegetation covers the topography. The morgue is placed right next to the cemetery to establish a close connection with it, where access to the cemetery and parking is a common space that connects the three characters (morgue, cemetery and parking).

The complex is built on a courtyard that separates and organizes the 4 main areas: The chapel of rest, the chapel, cafeteria and administration rooms. Thus the passage between the two areas always makes through this central space that acts as a nucleus. The rest chapels are grouped linearly, terraced to a longitudinal open porch, and lit by courtyards (Fig.1). The oratory, a place of worship, is higher than the rest of the buildings. To access it people has to cross a wooden footbridge (Fig.3). The only possible view from the inside to the exterior is the sky.

Fig. 1 The rest chapels are grouped linearly, terraced to a longitudinal open porch. Fig. 3 To access the oratory people have to cross a wooden footbridge. Fig. 2 Virtual view from the main entrance of the morgue.

Multi-purpose Pavilion

Rendering. Idea and project by architect Jordi Llort.

The structure of this multipurpose pavilion comprises two elements: A structural wood mesh and pillar. The mesh structure is both skin and support of the building. The mesh is stretched through articulated unions when reaching the ground and through articulated arms that give height and shapes the building.

The construction process of the building begins with the placement of the pillars and the mesh foundations. Once we have completed this process the next step is the placement of the 18 pillars that support the pavilion. At the same time you install the whole structure and finish the courtyard placing the vertical strips that will close the building and the entrance, as well as the doors and the windows.

With the foundations already installed we proceed to the installation of the structural mesh. It is transported on-site in plates of 3x3 meters manufactured at the workshop. Once there, the mesh is set up completely for distributed modules.

Afterwards the mesh knots are fixed into the arms of the pillars through threaded unions giving the final shape to the pavilion.

REFLECTION

Reflection

We love objects and gadgets. We are surrounded by everyday products, functional and artifacts as a way to express our identity.

But shouldn’t we be relied upon as problem solvers in times of crisis?

I believe that design has a lot of input into the social and environmental context through an emotional education.

Sure, the design is here to solve problems in an optimistic way.
