Filipino Fiesta

There is only one candidate of Filipino-descent for MLA in the City of Edmonton for the May 29 provincial elections and he is seeking a united Filipino community’s support for his candidacy.

Attorney Joseph Angeles has been door knocking at the Edmonton South riding non-stop, appealing to residents to give him the needed chance to prove that he can serve them in the Legislative Assembly.

"Sana man lang pagbibigyan tayong makapag serbisyo publiko bilang Filipino-Albertan," said Angeles, a native of Bataan, who with wife and fellow lawyer Katrina, and their two young daughters Ally and Milly have solidly supported the head of their family's goal to be the next public servant.

Angeles' father Denis also came to visit from the Philippines to show his huge support for his youngest son. Tatang Denis has been very proud of his son's achievements even in the Philippines. Joseph is a product of the Philippine Science

High School, University of the Philippines and Ateneo de Manila University School of Law.

Joseph migrated to Canada in 2010 to join his wife and started working in the legal field and was called to the bar in 2014. But it is not just all legal work for him as he has been serving in various capacities in the church and civic organizations. Statistics Canada showed that there are more than 60,000 Filipinos in Edmonton, who are recognized for their hard work and contributions to the growing society.

And Joseph has so far emerged as the best contribution from the Filipino community, if given the chance, to be a Member of the Legislative Assembly.

"Hindi po tayo mapapahiya," said wife Katrina, who has served as campaign manager with the help of other ethnic groups in Edmonton South.

The Filipino community's "best and brightest" definitely deserve a seat in the Legislative Assembly.
