Multi-story

building with commercial and residential use

This is the project I had to design and develop along with my group mates in the 4th semester. A few key features about the project: we had to use only existing solution from real companies for assembly details, building elements and strategies. In some cases we had to call the companies to ask for additional information, the structural part of the building is galvanized steel column-beam system and a pile foundation due to close proximity to the river and low loadbearing capacity of the soil. To make sure the project was as realistic as possible we had to develop a Market report to make sure that the building will be rented/sold after hand in and the budget limit was with that amount In addition to the above, the building had to fulfil the energy efficiency of 2015 energy demands, we achieved the goal by installing a solar panel system on the roof top

In the second part of the semester we were assigned specific building elements, I had to draw and specify in great detail in the work specification the connection of the prefabricated concrete staircases elements with the rest of the building as well as continue with the management part and the cost estimation of the building for the final examination.

Kindergarden and childcare center This is the project we received in the beginning of the 5th semester. The main topic of this project is sustainability. During this period we are taught about all the demands which are required for achieving a passive house certificate and at the same time we learn about DGMB certificate, alternative materials which are more environmentally friendly and can fulfill the same demands. You might ask yourself if this building is supposed to be sustainable why are we using bricks for facades, well this bricks are recycled making them a sustainable and durable material. This is just one of the many examples of the new sustainable materials we are still discovering. Also the building is flooded with light making the energy demands lower in the winter and for the summer time the big widows can be shaded using mechanical curtains. I must mention  that this project is a work in progres and is yet to be finished. Â

Office and production building for a printing company This was my 3rd semester project during which we had to design and develop a building made entirely of prefabricated elements. I have gained a big amount of knowledge during this period among which was managing all the elements and making sure they are not to make possible the transportation on the roads with no special requirements like police escort or removing power cables on the way to the construction site. Also the numbering the elements and loading schedules to make the process as time efficient as possible.
