Suspensions • Huntsville attorney Mary Isabelle Eaton was summarily suspended from the practice of law in Alabama pursuant to Rule 20(a), Alabama Rules of Disciplinary Procedure, by order of the Disciplinary Commission of the Alabama State Bar dated March 27, 2009. The Disciplinary Commission determined that Eaton’s continued practice of law is causing or is likely to cause immediate and serious injury to her clients or to the public. [Rule 20(a), Pet. No. 09-1185; ASB No. 08-1391(A)] • On April 23, 2009, the supreme court entered an order adopting the March 26, 2009 order of Panel I of the Disciplinary Board of the Alabama State Bar accepting Montgomery attorney Valerie Murry Smedley’s conditional guilty plea. According to the terms of the plea, Smedley’s license to practice law is suspended for a period of 180 days, effective April 23, 2009, for violations of rules 1.3, 1.4(a) and 1.4(b), Alabama Rules of Professional Conduct. Smedley will serve 30 days of the suspension and the remaining 150 days will be held in abeyance. Smedley will be placed on probation for two years.
