Digital Dilemma Louie Ward Manager of Tallapoosa River EC I feel caught between two generations. On one side of me is pen and paper which I really like. I can write myself a note and place it on my desk or refrigerator and remember what groceries to buy or remember that doctor’s appointment. If I make a mistake, I can use liquid paper or simply get another sheet of paper. If I want to keep something long term, I can “file” it away. Then a few years down the road, I can spend aggravated time searching for it. Some of you remember when this was the only way we kept up with stuff. We wrote it down! We looked things up in the encyclopedia. We also watched the morning or evening news for news, weather and sports too! Then on the other side of me is this “digital stuff ”. I have a phone that allows me to look up the weather, send and receive emails, take pictures and videos, and yes, it will even look up someone’s number and call them. I don’t even have to remember their number! I call phones like mine “magic boxes”. It seems just a few years ago, I didn’t have a phone that would do anything but make phone calls. It seems a few years ago a child answered mom’s or dad’s land line and almost never talked on a phone. That seems a little antiquated now, having to go home to

call someone from a “land line”. I think my life was a little simpler when I didn’t have constant communication abilities. Back then, I might have planned my days a little better too. I certainly didn’t have to worry about someone calling me if I were hunting or fishing. They would just have to wait until I got home. Now, like many of you, including your children or grandchildren, I have a “magic box” at my side almost 24/7. Thank you for allowing me to ramble for a minute. Now to my point, if you have a “magic box” you can download our new TREC “app” and use it to pay your bill or look up other information from our website. Additionally, you can call us and we can set you up to receive text or email notifications regarding your bill amount and due date. If you aren’t quite as up to date as some, you can use your home computer to pay your bill “online”. Or, if you prefer a hands off approach, you can call us and set your account up on “draft” or “auto pay”. Times they are a changing whether we like it or not. We want almost everything instantly. Here at TREC we are trying to keep up with your wishes in that regard.

Good Friday All offices of Tallapoosa River Electric will be closed on Friday March 25, 2016 for Good Friday. We will resume normal business hours on Monday March 28, 2016.

Energy Efficiency Tip of the Month Consider purchasing rechargeable batteries – and an ENERGY STAR charger for them – which are more cost effective than disposable batteries. In the U.S. alone, more energy-efficient battery chargers could save families more than $170 million annually.
