Pudu in Chinese means a "rich city".

How the streets are name

The name of "Ban Shan Ba" 半山芭

-According to the elder generation, along t he road from Jalan Pudu to the t-junction at Pudu Jail, it was an underdeveloped and remote area, almost a forest area.

In 1980s, they named Pudu as "rich city" because Pudu is congested with all the lower class people(quite poor). They are looking forward Pudu area to be rich.

-In chinese, "ban shan ba" literally means forested area or country side. Even many commercial buildings are built now, people still used to call it as "ban shan ba". Translated from http://news.sinchew.com.my/node/171368

-Brunei area is made up of few Jalan Brunei.

-Jalan Pasar also known as electronic street, it has more than 15 years of history.

-printing business is the hottest, thus people called it Printing street. It hits its peak at 1970s.

-At the back of Jalan Pasar is the location of wet market - In 1970s, peddlers are operating without license.

-Jalan Sayur also known as "wei sek gai" in which many food peddlers open stalls at night. -60 years ago, Jalan Sayur was a lane selling groceries, in chinese people called groceries as vegetable(sayur). Therefore, they named it as Jalan Sayur.

Jalan Pudu is originally doctor street but now become pawn street.
