Weweregivenasimplerectangularfloorplanforthisproject,which weusedtolearnhowtoconstructcustomceilings.Iwantedtouse Bumbleasmyfirmforthisprojectandutilizethehexagonalshape tomakeadistinctiveanddynamicceilingwithcorresponding windows.Itwasnecessaryforustodesignalargeconferenceroom withenoughfor16to20people.Inordertoallowthepresenterto movefreelyandengagewiththeviewerswhileprovidingspacefor 18people,IdesignedtheconferencetableintheshapeofaU.Ialso includedatableforrefreshmentsintheupperleftcorneranda projectorforthebusinesspresentationontheoppositeside.Ialso integratedthebrand'scolorpalettetothisareawhilemaintaininga professionalandrelaxedappearance.

Forthisproject,thebuilding'sshellwasprovidedtous,andwehad todesigntheinterior,puttingparticularemphasisontheadditionof asizableconferenceroom,areceptionarea,workstations,aCEO privateoffice,abreakroom,andastorageroom.Inordertoreduce unneedednoisefromtheupperlevels,Iusedthebasementfor storageandthebreakroom.Theworkstationsandreceptionarea werelocatedonthesecondfloor.Thelargeconferenceroomand theCEOspersonalofficewerelocatedonthethirdfloor.Theamount ofnaturallightthatcameinthroughthelargewindows,whichmay reflectoffthecomputerscreensattheworkstations,wasmybiggest worryaboutthearea.

Wewereallgiventhesamefloorplanforthisproject,whichwas about30,000squarefeet,butwechosethefirmwewantedtowork with.ImadethedecisiontouseSallyBeautySupplysinceIworked thereforalmosttwoyearsataconceptstoreinDenton,Texas, whereIalsohadthechancetotourthecompanysheadquarters. Sally'smajorgoalistoencourageeveryonetobetheirvibrantand self-assuredselves,withdiversityandinclusivitybeinghuge componentsofthebusiness.Thefloorplanthatwasgivenhada corethatincludedtheelevatorandrestroomsthatwouldremain untouched,whilewegottoworkonthesurroundingareas.My primaryareasoffocusforthiscompanywerethePresidentand BoardofDirectors,aswellasHR,Accounting,IT,Marketing,Product Development,andStoreOperations.Colortheorywasthemainarea formgiverIemployedbecauseIwantedtostaytruetotheir purposeandaddlotsofcolorstothespaceswhilemaintaininga professionallook.Thevariousdepartmentsareallplacedonthe groundlevel,andIusedtheupstairscornerspaceforacorporate storeandabreakroom/loungearea.

MydadandIenjoycreatingourowndecorationswith variouscharacters.Onathinpieceofwood,Iwould drawthebasicshapesofthecharacterswehad chosen,andmydadwouldcutthemoutforme.I sanditdownafterthatandthenIstartpaintingthem. WeonceusedthesandwormfromBeetlejuiceasour Halloweendecoration;itstheoneontheleft.TheHeat MiserandSnowMiserfromAYearWithoutSantaare theonesontheright,whichweusedasChristmas decorations.Itisanenjoyableandcalmingactivity thathelpsmeandmydadbond.
