hat is Rheumatoid Arthritis and its causes Rheumatoid Arthritis is an autoimmune condition. It is a chronic condition and gradually affects your joints and certain other body parts. It causes pain and swelling in and around the joints and other affected parts of the body. Rheumatoid Arthritis occurs when your immune system attacks the lining of the membrane surrounding your joint (synovium). This leads to inflammation of this lining. The inflammation gradually thickens and starts destroying the cartilage and bone within the joint.
