Jacobs to help Washington DC airports enhance passenger experience The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority has chosen Jacobs to help it enhance the overall airline and passenger experience at Reagan National and Dulles airports. Under the terms of the agreement, Jacobs will provide facilities condition assessment (FCA) and enterprise asset management (EAM) services at both Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) and Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD). The five-year contract includes a base year with multiple one-year options and includes work to assess how buildings and infrastructure are managed, analyse capital investment needs, discover areas for improvement and prioritise critical maintenance and repair projects. “Our long-standing relationship with the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority is even more important now as air travel begins to increase, and this project will prioritise keeping airports safe, efficient and reliable for travellers,” said Jacobs’ people and places solutions executive vice president, Ken Gilmartin. “Working collectively, we have the opportunity to improve the passenger experience and make travel easier for individuals using Washington, DC’s airports.”

Jacobs’ consulting team will integrate physical asset inventories with EAM technology to save costs, improve quality and efficiency of resources, extend facility life, and enhance safety, health, and environment initiatives at both airports.

Smiths Detection secures two new security contracts Kuwait international Airport and London Heathrow are the latest gateways to order security screening technology from Smiths Detection. In Kuwait, the company will provide a full suite of passenger baggage screening equipment for the airport’s new Terminal 2, which is currently under construction. The contract includes the supply and installation of 70 x Hi-SCAN 6040 CTiX computed tomography (CT) X-rays, which allow passengers to leave electronic devices and liquids in their baggage. While at London Heathrow, Smiths Detection has been chosen to supply integrated checkpoints across the UK hub that feature the same technology to deliver what it calls “an advanced level of security and efficiency”. The ECAC EDS CB C3 approved CT systems will allow Heathrow to meet the highest regulatory requirements, while helping it achieve its vision for the future of the security checkpoint for passengers and colleagues.
