Also a member of the school’s basketball team (baseball interfered with fishing), Jerry’s most notable accomplishments were with the 1957 and 1958 varsity football teams. In one of the more notable games, he scored five touchdowns against Old Town, a record that is believed to still stand today. He also had held the record for the most points scored in a single game – 30! Jerry’s team also beat the Bangor High School team for the first time since WWII, a victory that has not been repeated! On the field, Jerry was described in a September 6, 1958 article as “electrifying” in reference to his season opening game that year. Jerry was the team captain during his senior year and was recruited to play at Bates. Sadly, an injury that year ended his high school career. This may have been the springboard for Jerry’s illustrious military career and the foundation for his family. The proud father of three sons, Jerry and his wife Mary met on Armed Forces Day in Charleston and will have been married for 56 years this October. Still active, when not playing golf or hiking a nearby mountain, Jerry loves to garden.
