Mentoring. What is it about? Mentoring is a one-to-one relationship that allows mentors to support mentee’s in finding their own path for development and growth. The development and growth of the mentee will be professioal, in field where he/she wants to get a job or on the department he/she is currently in AIESEC. During program, the mentee will be the person who will come with questions and curiosities, having a proactive, open and curious attitude. The ultimate objective is the fullfilment of the mentee’s potential, by exploring alternatives and encouraging him/her to act.

Embrace advantages

5.

As a mentor, there are some advantages that must be mentioned : - establish a new relationship; - develop others by sharing your own experiences; - opportunity to influence and shape the organisation’s culture; - influence and lead others towards a positive direction; - affirmation of the values and satisfaction from fulfilling a role as helper and developer of others, while contributing to AIESEC; - gain experience that will recommend you for interships as an instructor/supervisor; - your mentee can come with an idea that will have as a result a very good collaboration on a future project; - you will realise how good you are and how much you really know.

New relationships are created After AIESEC members are selected and Alumni join the program, next step is the creation of every pair. Based on every Alumnus backround, he/she will become a mentor. The mentee will be matched based an his current department in AIESEC, personal and professional objectives.

Things to take care of

As you already know, during every project there are a few guidelines that we would like to be followed: -first schedule meetings and set agenda; -set clear expectations for the relationships together with your mentee; -set the goals of the relationship together with your mentee; -understand that consistency is essential to build a relationship with your mentee, establishing constant meetings with him/her; -listen, emphatize and guide mentee toward productive solutions; -try as much as posible to communicate openly;

6.

-look for a balance between required information and optional information, in order to help your mentee find a really interesting subject for him/her; - set clear boundaries between personal and professional information and what you are comfortable to share ; - provide personal experiences and stories that will help him/her solve similar issues; - assist your mentee in setting action steps and encouraging follow up.

Ongoing plan

During the program, there will be several meetings: - the first meeting should happen within 2 weeks after the matching; - afterwards, the pairs can agree on the frequency and the purpose of the meetings based on their needs and schedules; - there shoud be at least two meetings per month;

7.

Results & What’s next At the end of the program, we want every mentor to give a general feedback of the relationship with his mentee. We also want to know their initial expectations and how many of them were fulfilled. It is important for us to find out how much of the objectives planned with the mentee were realised. At the end, we strongly recommend every pair to maintain their friendship and to continue a future colaboration.
