THE LANGUAGE OF THE FURNITURE An 1800 sq.mt. large inspirational space, including furnishings, lamps, accessories, textiles and much more; three stores, two based in Messina and one in Catania; 50 employees; 16-milion euros of revenues in 2016. This is MOHD - Mollura Home Design. It is exactly Gianluca Tornabene Mollura, CEO of Mohd, whom we met at the Flou’s booth during the Milan Furniture Fair, who introduced us to this booming business, a milestone for high-end resellers, in Italy and abroad. “The company has been established in 1944 as a small artisan business; it was run by my mother starting from 1968, who opened the first showroom, and then by me, since I was 22. We launched our first store Mohd-Mollura Home Design in 2004 with the innovative idea to offer a very original design language, obtained through a combination of brands and products which may define a very personal taste. The idea of not developing store corners has been, and is still, highly appropriate. Clients have the possibility to see objects and furniture exhibited in a very original manner, without standard schemes, not fitting the company’s catalogue, that is simply a path to be followed. We can rely on 10/15

in-house designers/architects with whom we have long-term collaborations, who can choose among top brands such as Flou, Kartell, Cassina, Poltrona Frau, Minotti, Boffi, Poliform e Varenna, Artemide, B&B Italia, Molteni&C, Porro etc., as well as international ones that only a few years ago were unknown even to the professionals of the industry. Domestic market contributes about 40% of the group’s total consolidated revenues; our clients are mostly based in Sicily, of course, but also in Milan and Rome. We have recently carried out two remarkable projects in the Veneto region and, through the ‘word of mouth’, we have furnished some houses in London. In order to get through the hard time which has involved the industry as a whole in 2010-2011, we launched new communication and selling methods – continues Gianluca Tornabene Mollura. It was mandatory to us, considering our geographic position. It was anyway the right choice, which allowed us – step by step – to develop our business in every part of the world, including London, New York, Melbourne, and especially to reach architects and internationally renown design studios, which really appreciate the service we
offer and that ask us our opinion, not simply meet their specific needs. In the pictures, Gianluca Tornabene Mollura, CEO of Mohd, and some views of the Messina and Catania-based showrooms. www.mohd.it
