ALAÏA È dedicata ad Azzedine Alaïa la mostra d’apertura del Palais Galliera - Musée de la Mode de la Ville de Paris, che nei suoi rinnovati spazi ospita fino al prossimo 26 gennaio settanta iconiche creazioni del couturier tunisino

n nome, quello di Azzedine Alaïa, all’inizio appena sussurrato nei salotti buoni di Parigi, dove lo stilista - studi all’Accademia di Belle Arti di Tunisi - approda alla fine degli anni Cinquanta intenzionato a scovare i segreti dei laboratori di moda, frequentando gli atelier di Christian Dior e Guy Laroche. A partire dal 1979, le prime collezioni a sua firma (con il sostegno dell’amico stilista Thierry Mugler, n.d.r.) presentate non di rado, senza alcun invito, nell’intimità del suo appartamento, eppure in grado di destare clamore, lasciando il segno nella storia della moda. Come testimonia oggi la mostra Alaïa allestita fino al prossimo 26 gennaio nei rinnovati spazi del Palais Galliera - Musée de la Mode de la Ville de Paris, dove una scenografia firmata da Martin Szekely accoglie settanta iconiche creazioni del designer, tracciandone l’emblematico percorso creativo. Dichiara Alaïa: “Io faccio i vestiti, loro (le donne) fanno la moda…”, mutuando dall’arte i volumi dei suoi abiti, scolpiti sul corpo con la complicità dell’effetto “stretch”. Giocando d’astuzia con il tessuto elasticizzato e con il cuoio reso fragile e sensuale, monsieur Alaïa consegna così alle sue donne - siano esse top model del calibro di Naomi Campbell o star della musica come Rihanna - body e abiti bustier modellati con garbo e tocco leggero attorno alla silhouette, in un esercizio stilistico che affonda le sue radici nel fertile terreno dell’arte e della scultura. Al punto tale che di lui è stato scritto e detto di tutto, senza mai ridurre la sua professione a un unico mestiere: sarto, architetto, mago del taglio, creatore, scultore e finanche chirurgo dell’estetica. Meglio dire “Maestro della Couture” - suggerisce il direttore del Palais Galliera, Olivier Saillard - consacrando ad Azzedine Alaïa la mostra d’apertura del museo parigino, in un omaggio a colui che, insignito di ben due Oscar della Moda (nel 1985, n.d.r.), ebbe a dire: “L’eleganza? Una questione d’attitudine… non ha nulla a che vedere con il fatto di indossare degli abiti di lusso”. Silvia Cutuli

n the beginning Azzedine Alaïa was a name barely heard in the smart drawing rooms of Paris, where this designer, who studied at the Academy of Fine Art in Tunis, arrived at the end of the fifties intent on discovering the secrets of the Parisian design workshops and spend time in the ateliers of Christian Dior and Guy Laroche. The first collections in his name started appearing in 1979 (with the support of his designer friend Thierry Mugler, ed) often presented without any invitations into the intimacy of his apartment, and yet still created a stir and left their mark in the history of fashion. And today this is demonstrated in the exhibition Alaïa open until 26th January 2014 in the newly renovated exhibition area of the Palais Galliera - Musée de la Mode de la Ville de Paris, designed by Martin Szekely and hosting seventy of his iconic creations that trace out his creative career. In his words: “I make clothes, it is the women that make fashion...” take over the volumes in his clothes from art, sculpted onto the body with the complicity of a “stretch” effect. Playing cleverly with stretch fabrics and leather made delicate and sensual, monsieur Alaïa delivers to his women, whether top models of the calibre of Naomi Campbell or pop stars like Rihanna, body stockings and corset dresses modelled round the silhouette with grace and a light touch, in a design exercise with its root firmly in the fertile terrain of art and sculpture. To the point that whatever has ever been written and said about him has never reduced him to having one single profession. He is a tailor, an architect, a wizard at cutting, a creator, sculptor and even plastic surgeon. Perhaps simply a ‘Maestro of Couture’ suggested the director of the Palais Galliera, Olivier Saillard when he dedicated the opening exhibition of this Paris museum to Azzedine Alaïa, paying tribute to a man who received two Fashion Oscars (in 1985, ed) and has said, “Elegance? It’s a question of attitude... it has nothing to do with putting on luxury clothes”.
