: The objective of this research project is the development of an electric vehicle that is propelled by a Polymer Electrolyte Membrane (PEM) fuel cell, showing a low infrared signature. This fuel cell is fed by hydrogen, which is stored in a high-pressure on-board tank. The project deals with the tasks related to the design and characterization of the components as well as their integration. These components are the fuel cell, the electric motor, the electric storage (battery), the electronic power converters and the control system. AICIA has participated in the design phase and is in charge of the final integration, working in collaboration with the National Aerospace Institute (INTA). The vehicle is driven by an electric motor that can be fed by the fuel cell and, additionally, with electric batteries, which need adequate control of the power that is exchanged among the components. The control objective is to satisfy the power demanded by the driver while fuel consumption is minimized.

: In this project, a comparative study of two different DC/AC power system topologies for a 5 kW PEMFC stack, used as uninterruptible power supply (UPS) for isolated/non-isolated equipment is presented. The main goal of the inverter is to convert the energy from the fuel cell with an input voltage of 48 volts and to feed the network and a 220Vrms @ 50Hz AC load. One of the topologies is a bidirectional solution with two inverters suitable for on-line robust systems. The other is a single inverter solution which has been studied for low cost solutions. It is important to notice that the control for the inverter incorporates high stability and reliability, as well as fast dynamic response.
