at a young age from his mother, who was an accomplished chef and restaurateur in the 1970s. Marten has a degree in culinary and food service from Johnson & Wales University in Rhode Island. In 1987, he opened his first restaurant, Carry Pizza Ribs and Things. One thing led to another, and finally Marten opened Canoa Restaurant at the Oyster Pond Marina. The menu features international cuisine served with a Caribbean flair.
