The Interview did not review too well; viewers favor it more than critics By Raven Bradshaw Bradsh345@lex2.org

Rating: ★★★☆☆ The movie The Interview by Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and James Weaver is an action comedy made in 2014. Dave Skylark, played by James Franco, is the main character, a TV host for Skylark Tonight. Aaron Rapoport, played by

Seth Rogen, is the director of the show. Aaron and Dave go on a journey to North Korea after scoring an interview with Korean dictator Kim Jong Un, who is played by Randall Park. They found out that Kim Jong Un was a big fan of their show and after getting the interview deal the two men were approached by the US government to try and take out the mean dictator. The Interview is a great

comedy and very amusing to the audience like it was suppose to be portrayed as. Some people, however, did not understand the movie was just a comedy and not meant to be taken seriously, and so this movie did not get the greatest reviews on the Tomatometer on Rottentomatoes.com; it scored only a 51% fresh. Most of the reviews was about how the movie was insane to take down a head of state like Kim Jong Un was a bit ridiculous, but I guess not everyone can have a sense of humor. The movie was shot pretty decently, and if you want to save some cash I recommend watching it on Netflix unless you're going out with all your friends; then it's a great movie to see with them, but obviously not in the theaters since it’s over a year old now. The age minimum on this movie would be about 17 due to it having some inappropriate screens and language in it. Overall, The Interview is a great movie for teenagers and also young adults, I recommend this movie and give it a 3 out 5 stars.

Ryan Reynolds makes a junky superhero into a great movie By Austin Phelps Phelps621@lex2.org

Rating: ★★★★★ There is a fine line between movies directed toward a younger audience and movies directed towards an older audience. Deadpool, who is also the main character and played by Ryan Reynolds, is a movie that was probably directed towards an audience that is way older. The dirty talk and violence that this movie has to offer is definitely not for the feint of heart. But to me, the junky feel of the movie is really part of its charm, so it was an amazing movie. The cross between comedy and action was phenomenal, it had me laughing till my stomach hurt. Additionally, the fact that the movie was made so that Deadpool breaks the fourth wall, looks at the camera, and talks to the audience makes it feel like you’re a part of the story and action. Deadpool stays making jokes and cracking on people throughout the whole movie, even when his face looks like he’s been cooking in an oven. This is what leads him to wear his mask and hide from his love, Vanessa, who is a stripjoint hooker.

The movie keeps the action going by throwing in appearances from two X-Men - Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead. Deadpool keeps ripping the studio for cheapness since it only provided two XMen, but provides a nasty Wolverine impression you won't want to miss.

The only problem was that the movie was kind of stretched out and repetitive, with the same kind of action going on. But that doesn’t spoil the fact that this movie is great. I give this movie a 4.5 out of 5, but I might as well round up.

Circle’s low budget doesn’t mean low quality By Hannah Hallman Hallman653@lex2.org

Rating: ★★★★☆ There's a lot of movies that don’t get the credit they deserve because they’re labeled as “low budget” and give the idea that there isn’t a lot of care put into the movie. This is not the case, however, for Circle. Released on Halloween of 2015, this low-budget Netflix original put a stop to my vision on low-budget movies. It doesn’t try to hide that it’s low budget either; the effects are sub-par and the set is very uninteresting, but this movie knows that it’s a low budget film. And as the say-

ing goes, “Knowing the problem is the first step to solving it,” which is definitely what happens here. What they did with their budget was they focused on actors. Fantastic actors who can really make you feel the situation. To give a summary, the movie is about a group of people who’ve woken up in a large round room each standing on a bright red circle, just big enough to give them a place to stand comfortably. Within the first 10 minutes we learn that if they leave their circle they are killed by the orb in the center of the room and that they have the ability to ‘vote’ on who dies next, with about 5 minutes to choose after a person has been killed. This is important because it helps keep up the pace of the story and keeps the viewer on edge. The viewer feels under pressure with the other people in the room. So on af t er this, the viewer, along with the people in the movie, realize that (1) one person could make it out alive and (2) the pregnant woman or the little girl have to be the

ones to make it out alive, as one has a full long life left ahead of them and the other is in the process of bring a child into the world. The choice seems obvious that they should be the ones to live, but that’s the problem. How do you decide which one should die? Not only is this a conflict, but there are many people who have decided that they should be the ones to live and that killing the little girl or the pregnant woman would raise their chances of living. Much like political parties, they split into groups, those who want to kill them off, and those who think they should be the ones to live. The only reason I’ve gone into this much detail is because this problem comes across very quickly and the viewer catches on very quickly, but I wont spoil the ending. What the viewer should know is that you will never see it coming. This movie, as simple as it is, is one of my absolute favorites. It used it’s budget to the best it possibly could, and the story was fantastic and pulls at your heartstrings the whole time. Go ahead and watch this with your friends, take bets on who you think will make it out aliveor if anybody will make it out alive.

The Sandlot continues to evoke nostalgia years after original release By Josh Talton Talton@lex2.org

Rating: ★★★★☆ The Sandlot is a fun movie for the whole family! It has a good moral behind the story and is not the conventional type of baseball movie. In many other baseball movies, the theme always centers around the importance of winning the big game, and winning is the most important thing about the movie. With The Sandlot, however, the moral is about overcoming one’s fear, which in this case is a “giant

gorilla-dog thing.” The plot revolves around a boy named Smalls who brings his stepfather’s baseball from home to play a quick pickup game thinking it would be ok. But his ignorance of the importance of the ball, signed by Babe Ruth (the greatest baseball player of all-time), put him and all of his friends in the biggest pickle of their lives so far when the b a l l went sailing over the fence into the beast’s grasp. They tried everything to get that ball back and nothing would ever work. That is until Benny “The Jet” Rodriguez decided to face his biggest fear and hop the fence to grab the ball and run. Of course, he got the ball and created a relationship with the old man that owned the dog who would have

just gotten the ball for them anyways. Basically, this movie shows it’s not always about winning the big game but overcoming your fears and standing up tall when you face them. This movie gets 4 out of 5 stars, and I highly recommend anyone—regardless of whether or not he likes baseball—see this film. It’s an undisputed classic.

Rating: ★★★★★ Adele, a singer/songwriter from London, has resurfaced with a new album following her success with former album 21. Four years after her release of 21 and 11 awards later, including two Grammys, Adele has continued to use regret as her muse. However, unlike 21, Adele has changed her perspective and is singing from a new place in life. Throughout the album, Adele focuses on leaving past loves and escapades in the past. “Water Under the Bridge” and “When We Were Young,” are specific examples of the artist moving forward from the past; even “Hello” is a goodbye, according to Rolling Stone magazine. Adele’s sentimentality through the album is a perfect match for an artist who reaches back to find inspiration, while incorporating a new take on soul and pop music. With her debut song, “Hello,” Adele captivates audiences with a strong, powerful voice and a story told from one perspective, but taken many ways. Overall, the song Hello is written to an ex lover who has in turn, betrayed the love of their partner. As the album continues, “I Miss You” presents a new, saucier side to the story being told throughout the songs. “I Miss You” creates a

sexy ambiance of what the prior love was like through their connections. However, Adele and Paul Epworth focus on the hindrance in the relationship and how the couple turned it into passion. Towards the end, with the help of Bruno Mars, Adele creates a song to embody the overall aspect of the album with

Adele captivates audiences with a strong, powerful voice and story told from one perspective, but taken many ways. “All I Ask.” After coming to the conclusion that the love is over, the lover longs for their partner to make their last night together one to remember. Not only are the songs crafted in a more effective way, but the singing style is almost more mature. As Adele names her albums after her age (19, 21, 25), it is obvious that this collection of songs would have more experience behind them, however, Adele projects her voice in a more astonishing way than ever before. always, Adele uses her range to create powerful riffs and impressions on the audience. Along with her power, Adele also brings forth a lighthearted attitude in some of the songs like “Send My Love (To Your New Lover),” when she instructs the men in the studio: “Just the guitar.” After finding love and having a child, Adele is writing from a new place in life and is content with the way things are going. “Being in such an amazing relationship with someone that's so there for me and so loyal and is really part of my core now, that's what made me write about everything I've ever done, because I've got his love," she explained to int er v iew er Liz Ha yes o n etonline.com. "I know that sounds a bit like I'm trying to write a Hollywood movie," Adele, 27, added. "but it's only because of him and because of our kid and stuff that I'm all right." Not only is she alright, but also all of her f ans are because of 25. Writing from this new place she is in seems to be working, and fans hope to see more in the near future.

Carolina Buffet of Springdale doesn't disappoint By Nicholas McGee Mcgee419@lex2.org

Rating: ★★★★★ Carolina Buffet is a small town restaurant that is located in Springdale SC. This restaurant is a family owned barbecue place that never disappoints. Along with barbecue, there are home made country sides like hash, corn, vegetables, and many delicious desserts. My family and I first heard of the restaurant from my Grandma. After we finally

decided to go it was close to the time they closed, and of course we were worried about the buffet food that had probably been sitting there all afternoon. When we walked in and paid we were surprised to see that the buffet food was fresh and hot. Not to mention delicious. We were so hungry that we ended up eating lots of barbecue and sides. This small restaurant has become one of my favorites. The people that work there treat you like you are family. It was only my first time going there and each waitress

seemed like we had been friends for life. Not only were the waitresses nice, but they always brought out exactly what we asked for; and quickly too. Along with fresh food, and great service we also all ate for a convenient budget. $9:00 for adults and $5:00 for kids on weekdays. This restaurant scored 4.8 stars out of 5 and always has a huge crowd waiting outside to eat. To anyone wanting country cooking at a good price and wonderful service, I recommend Carolina Buffet of Springdale.

Paparoni’s Pizzeria and Grill continues to be delicious By Gabriel Hoover Hoover188@lex2.org

Rating: ★★★★☆ Paparoni’s Pizzeria and Grill is located in the business district of Swansea on S. Brecon Ave. and E. 3rd St. The atmosphere is very inviting and great for a night out with friends or family; the seating is comfortable and there are multiple televisions throughout the room typically showing a sports event. In addition to television there are pool tables

to be played on without any extra charge. The menu is slim, but has many possibilities for grilled or oven baked items, also there are cakes, pies, and cold treats to choose from for dessert. All pizzas are made fresh by hand and delivered to your table in a timely manner. Breadsticks are not complementary and their quality is not the best, so I would not recommend them to anyone trying to start a meal off with an appetizer, however this is the only flaw in the menu that

I have observed; you will not find yourself waiting m u c h longer than fifteen minutes for your meal to arrive and the server will gladly help you at anytime. Pricing is fair when considered to quality of the meal; one large pizza could easily feed 3-4 guests. I give this restaurant a 4 out of 5 for quality, atmosphere, and service.

Chick-fil-A: I could eat it all day, every day By Tanner Glenn glenn453@lex2.org Chick-fil-A is a really good restaurant. I go to the one located in West Columbia, SC. Every time I go there I am never disappointed. The service is always extremely good and the employees are really nice and understanding. I have never left there feeling dissatisfied or hungry at that matter. Chick-fil -A is always kept in excellent condition as soon as you walk in and even when you use the restroom. The workers work very hard and diligently on maintaining perfect conditions. They present their food well, you always know what you're getting and from my personal experience they have never

messed up my order or drink. Even if they are really busy (which usually they are) you rarely have to wait to get your food. Another really good restaurant beside Chick-fil-A is Zaxby's. Their food is really good and you will not be waiting for a long time but it isn't as well kept as Chick-fil-A and it kind of grosses me out. Chick-fil-A has never undercooked or over cooked (burnt) my food. Also, they really aren't that expensive. I always get a number one with no pickles, large fry, and a large sweet and it cost $6.67. They have lots of variety as well from the different types of chicken sandwiches and all the breakfast items. Also, they have this sauce called Polynesian sauce, if you haven't tried it you should con-

sider it next time you make a trip. However, the only negative thing I have to say about Chick-fil-A is that they aren't open on Sunday! It's okay though because I understand they are a Christian based restaurant. Finally, I give Chick-fil -A a 9.5 rating of out a 10 and if you haven't been there in awhile you should go “Eat Mor Chikin.
