Leaving a Legacy: Tom Hansen
Cattleman, farmer, husband, father, and grandfather are some words that can describe Tom, but one title that stands out to us at Ag Valley Co-op is Board President. Tom served on the Maywood Co-op board starting in 1995 until the merger with Ag Valley Co-op in October 2000. Tom furthered his education by attending education programs/ trainings with the Nebraska Cooperative Council. He completed the Director Certification Program (4-Phrase Program) in 1996, Cooperatives For Tomorrow Seminar: 2009, 2011, 2015 and 2017, Cooperative Issues Symposium: 2015 and 2017, Director/ Manager Workshop: 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2004, Board Leadership Seminar: 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2020, and 2022. Besides the responsibility of serving as Ag Valley Co-op's Board President since 2006, Tom served on the Nebraska Cooperative Council Board of Directors from 2001-2010, the Nebraska Legislative Advisory Committee from 2001-2010, and the Nebraska Cooperative Council Education Foundation Board of Directors from 2018-2020. Tom was interviewed in 2019 about his position and what Ag Valley meant to him and his operation. Tom mentioned in the interview “Cooperatives have always been a vital part of his business.” He also noted, “My father said that it was important to work with them, and so I continue to work with the local co-op for my operation.” Ag Valley Co-op board of directors and employees are saddened by Tom’s passing. We are thankful for Tom’s many contributions to the success of our cooperative.Tom helped continue Ag Valley’s mission of Building Tomorrow Together.
