Taka & Megu is a married couple and artist duo from Japan. The couple adopted the pseudonym of “Itazula,” which evokes the lightheartedness of childhood pranks and invites us to embrace the same carefree spirit as adults. Itazula’s collaboration is a harmonious journey shaped by personal joys and sorrows, a dance of opposites between partners and rivals who enhance each other’s strengths. Their collage works are attained through a combination of traditional and digital techniques. Megu’s calligraphic characters and Japanese ink drawings form the basis of their compositions. Once digitally scanned, the couple adds vibrant colors to the black-and-white sketch–a metaphor for the salvific role of art in a world full of gloom–as well as materials sourced from the Internet and the local library. Flowers, animals, and plants blend into an explosive yet melodious pop aesthetic that brims with optimism. In art as in life, Taka & Megu brave forth with undying devotion, transforming the dark spots into works of beauty and hope.

We are a married couple artist duo from Japan. As artists, embark on a collaborative journey where we explore various sources of inspiration. Drawing from a multitude of influences, we carefully select our subjects, aiming to create meaningful artwork. With meticulous attention to detail, we sketch our ideas on paper, embracing the concept of a collage by incorporating free materials from the vast expanse of the Internet. After scanning our monochromatic creation, we skillfully add vibrant colors on the computer, continuously experimenting for a striking outcome.

Through our art, we seek to bridge the gap between the ordinary and the extraordinary, staying true to our name, Itazula, which symbolizes the innocence, excitement, and freedom of childhood pranks. Our enduring logo, featuring the Chinese character for love, serves as a reminder to embrace freedom and convey the essence of love through our creative expressions. Together, we undertake this artistic journey, collaborating to refine our works until we achieve a mutual sense of satisfaction and completion. For inquiries, sales@agora-gallery.com
