DWIGHT MYERS

530 West 25th Street, New York, NY

Captivated by the awe-inspiring landscapes of his native Florida, Dwight Myers’ artistic journey began with digital photography. Working exclusively in black, white, and infrared, he captures the dramatic power of his natural surroundings. After training with a photographer in Ithaca for three years, he became drawn to abstract art and discovered an all-consuming passion for acrylic flow painting. Reflecting the uncertain and unsettling reality of the pandemic years, Myers was initially drawn to muted tones and a minimalist palette of black, whites, and grays. As the world opened up, he found his voice through color and movement. Myers approaches.

With alchemic precision, he utilizes formulas and measurements to achieve a greater degree of control over the composition. Once the blueprint for the work is set however, he steps back marveling at the entrancing spectacle of colors that organically ensue. Playing on the contrast between negative space and two-tone cell patterns, he creates imagery that evokes strong emotions, while remaining graceful and balanced.

Originally from Pensacola, located in the Florida Panhandle, Dwight is a licensed clinical social worker residing in Baltimore, MD. He runs a successful online channel called DwightPours, where he explains his artistic process and techniques, as a way to educate the public about flow art and ignite their interest and curiosity.

My artistic journey began with photography. Enraptured by the grandeur of Floridian landscapes, I created dramatic compositions shooting in black and white and infrared. After training with a photographer for three years, I became drawn to abstract art and discovered an all-consuming passion for acrylic flow painting. I am fascinated with the use of color, the movement, and the unpredictability that comes with fluidity. Recently, I have been experimenting with the “dump and swirl” technique. With precision and meticulousness I developed formulas and measurements that allowed me to have a greater degree of control and achieve predictable results. Playing on the contrast between negative space and two-tone cell patterns, I strive to create enthralling compositions that evoke emotion, yet look organic and balanced.
