Banks and Credit Cards

Banks in Thailand are governed by the country’s central bank which is the Bank of Thailand. These five choices are the most popular bank in Thailand and they all require the same documents to open the account as shown below:

Address in Thailand Work Permit Passport

• Requirements for expat to open Thai bank account

• A copy of your digital work permit

• Original passport with a copy

• Address and Thai phone number are required

• Requirements for expat to open Thai bank account for dependent

• Dependent’s original passport with a copy

• A copy of visa page of your dependent

• You must go with your dependent, highly recommend doing this together

ATM/ Bank Online Application

It’s recommended to ask the bank to set up the online application upfront, make sure the mobile app is working before you leave the bank and these are also the Cash withdrawal methods.

• ATM Card

• Online app (cardless)

• Above 30k, go to the branch but currently you can request to do the set up for maximum withdrawal.

• ATM card can be used with any bank ATMs but cost additional 10-20 baht fee if using outside of BKK.

• No withdrawal fee for online apps anywhere in Thailand but only applicable with one bank.

• You can pay bills via online apps.
