Few cities in Europe have fascinated, as Rome has for many centuries. Rome has been portrayed in many literary works, many artists were inspired by the “Eternal City” and many cinema directors have described and set its thousand aspects in the large screen. Rome is more than just a city: it is a myth, and year after year there are millions of tourists who want to discover it . The motivations and interests of its visitors are so different as their origins. Some are pushed by religion, others are interested in the history of Roman civilization, other are fascinated by modern Rome and Roman wordly social life.

The Piedmont Region: Excursions, Truffle and Wine In the heart of Piedmont, among the finest roots of its shining land, a rare species of white truffle grows. Considered of the best and finest quality and priced as high as a thousand euros per kilo, the white truffle is much more expensive than the renowned black truffle. It is difficult to describe the taste of white truffles, the exciting search for them and the easy preparation that makes them very mysterious. It has been years since it was acclaimed in the gourmet cuisine as a fantastic treasure. In order to harvest these precious tubers, people rely on the smell of specially trained dogs. In Italy people also use pigs: these smart animals with a good smell find truffles very quickly, although their appetite prevents truffles to end up in human stomachs. This classy hotel is in Bra, in the heart of the area of Roero, between the Langhe and Montferrat – a region rich in history, tradition, wine and gastronomy. The modern building of the hotel offers a clean and nice environment and is about 11 miles from Alba. The hotel has a café, a restaurant, a lounge and a spa with Turkish bath, sauna, gym and Jacuzzi. ACTIVO • Living Italy • Promotur s.r.l. from crowded tourist destinations and to get to know the life of local people. Our trips are chosen to offer an optimal combination of activity, enjoyment, intense experience and relaxation. The hotels chosen for our guests are perfect for restorative stays. Enjoyment, in every sense of the word, is at the centre of our activity holidays – in open nature, cultural monuments, comfortable hotels and picnics in the fresh air with regional specialities and wines. To make the experience a complete success, participants are accompanied by our experienced walking and cycling tour guides. On request, Bike Hire will provide bicycles and transport them to and from the tour location. Each walking tour participant receives a pair of walking sticks as a gift, and each cycling tour participant gets a water bottle.

Everything you need to know! Cycle tours are the perfect combination of experience, healthy activity and enjoyment, views and movement in nature. Anyone who enjoys cycling can take part, no special training is required. Most tours are on good surfaces or low traffic side roads, mostly on well-cared for cycle tracks. Only occasionally do we take heavier traffic roads for short distances. If you need a hire bike, they are always available for the scheduled day trips.

Breakdowns If you have a breakdown during the trip that you can’t fix with your repair kit, your tour guide will find the closest repair shop. If you need assistance, you can reach us at: 0039 0464 571111 or at the direct number of your contact person.

Walking tours Walking - hardly any other activity brings you closer to a country and its people. Our walking tours are mostly on well-cared for tracks, often the same ones used by local people. They are far from roads - no traffic will disturb your enjoyment of the landscape with its flora and fauna. The walks themselves last from 3 to 6 hours. For each trip you are provided with detailed route instructions, and all walks are rated for difficulty, from easy to challenging.

Altitude differences The altitude difference is indicated for each day’s walk. This is the difference between the lowest and highest points of the walk; altitude differences of less than 50 m are indicated as “very little altitude difference”.

What if it rains? The day’s schedule is changed by your guide. If its rains for a long time, the tour may have to be abandoned; we do our best to find an alternative and try to plan new routes. An interesting alternative is always planned in advance.

Equipment We recommend robust, high walking boots which reach above the ankles and practical, comfortable clothing. Layered clothing is best, so that you can always take layers off and put them back on again. Please make sure you have protection against the rain and sunshine. We recommend special cycling clothing, like cycling shorts and gloves, but they’re not essential. Cyclists are not required to wear helmets in Italy, but we recommend using one for your own safety. Please remember that our trips often take in convents and churches which may be cool and require appropriate clothing: shoulders must be covered and very short shorts are not acceptable. We recommend eating a healthy breakfast and drinking lots of water during the tour. A small backpack is an ideal accessory.

Walking and cycling tour leaders Our walking and cycling tour leaders are highly experienced, take a responsible attitude and love touring. Our local partners are experienced and reliable, enjoy showing you the beauties of their area and are always ready to help in any way. They know the route very well, of course, but may not be as well informed about the local geography, flora and fauna as a guidebook or the scientific literature. The guides are German speaking Italians or Germans familiar with the area.

Bus trips All the tours in this catalogue are designed for small groups (from 14 to 25 people), and arrivals and departures must be provided by your own bus. The bus trips are usually no more than 1 hour to the starting point. If you cannot provide your own bus, your guests must travel to the destination by themselves; we’ll provide a bus for the other days. If requested, we provide bicycles for the cycling tours and will deliver them to the start and collect them from the end of the tour (you needn’t worry about cycle carriers or trailers, bus parking, lengthy arrangements, and so on). The hire bikes are not insured, the participant is responsible for damage and theft.

Hotel and catering All our tours include stay in selected 3*/4* hotels. Breakfast and dinner are included. For each day trip, you can plan a sit down lunch, picnic packet or snack, as you wish. The breaks during the day, to relax and enjoy local specialities, are the perfect opportunity to get to know the country and its farming culture better.

Price on Request The word “Conero” derives from the greek Komaros, strawberry, a very common plant on the slopes of the homonymous mountain, covered all year by a lush Mediterranean vegetation that, from May to June, the precious yellow color and fragrance the broom and the rock rose roses. Our itinerary starts from this charming place, in the heart of Regional Conero Park, where the Adriatic coast rises abruptly and offers breathtaking views of clear blue sea contrasting with the deep green of vegetation, including hidden coves and fantastic cliffs in shape. Crossing characteristic villages with ancient origins, set like jewels in a emerald, coloured forest, we continue southwards to meet wonderful sandy beaches and splendid beach resorts in the Riviera delle Palme.

From Conero Riviera to Riviera delle Palme Proposed program: First Day: PORTONOVO / LORETO / RECANATI If, in addition to sun and sea, you want to visit historical places and immerse yourselves in nature, Marche Region is certainly one of the best places to be found in Italy. You can arm yourself with a camera and prepare to discover a peculiar unforgettable environment, characterized by hills covered with vineyards, Mediterranean scrub, fields of corn and sunflowers but also craggy headlands, the famous white stone of the Conero and the many beaches awarded by the prestigious Blue Flag. The excursion in the Conero Park with a little time available, offers the chance for interesting nature trips: you can start from Portonovo, a twenty minute drive from Ancona. It is a pleasant seaside resort where there is a Napoleonic fort, a watchtower and an romanesque church, Santa Maria of Portonovo, unique in its genre. Everything is naturally surrounded by a pebbly beach and an unspoild sea rich in wild, green “mussels”. Continuing along the main road called “the mountain road”, which runs along all the coast of Conero revealing the most picturesque views few kilometers, we meet Sirolo, a medieval town overlooking the sea and surrounded by unspoiled nature. It is exposed to the Adriatic breezes’, and offers spectacular views and beautiful beaches. Lunch on the panoramic terrace of Sirolo. In the afternoon visit of Numana: this popular seaside resort, is an ancient port dating back to Piceni, located at kilometre 21 of the “road of the mountain”. It is composed of two small towns: Numana downtown where you can relax on a fine sand long beach (which reaches Marcelli, another famous beach frequented by a young tourism) while Numana high town, perched on the ridge of the mountain, is famous for its steep streets, including the popular alley called Costarella, animated during the summer by several art exhibitions. Afterwards visit of Loreto and the

famous Marian shrine. Then departure for Recanati the birthplace of Giacomo Leopardi and charming medieval village. Dinner and overnight at the Agriturismo “Il Raggio Verde” in Recanati. Second Day: PORTO RECANATI / PORTO SAN GIORGIO Driving along the highway 16 southwards you will find numerous resorts that all deserve a stop. First of all Porto Recanati, with its promenade and the sandy beach: the old town is worth a visit for a look impressive Svevo Castle. We then continue our tour in direction of Porto Sant’Elpidio and after crossing Lido di Fermo we then arrive in Porto San Giorgio, a seaside resort and one of the most important fishing center of the Adriatic Sea, built on the ancient core of a medieval fishing village around a massive fortress founded to defend the coast from the pirates. The rock is great testimony of that glorious past, and represents a major tourist attraction. The town, rich in beautiful old buildings and churches, is crossed by the Corso Garibaldi, along which you find the oldest part of town. But the Marina area is also quite interesting, where under the shade of pines and palms, we found delightful cottages in Liberty style. The Marina is the largest of the Adriatic sea and can accommodate nearly 900 boats. In Porto San Giorgio, there’s of course a nice seafront promenade: the beaches are fine sandy, partly furnished and partly free. Water is low up to 300 meters from the shore, so it is ideal for children who can wade safely, and very clean thanks to the absence of polluting production plants along the coast. In the evening We leave Porto San Giorgio and the Adriatic main road and we can not help but note, perched on a steep hill, the tiny medieval village of Torre di Palme, overlooking the sea. In perfect condition, it is one of the most beautiful villages in the region, and is located on top of a hill, inaccessible on three sides. Torre di

Today it gives rather the impression of a beautiful terrace overlooking the sea, which in summer is populated by tourists every night and it can be reached by a shuttle available from the town of Fermo. Third Day: CUPRAMARITTIMA / GROTTAMMARE / SAN BENEDETTO DEL TRONTO Cupra Marittima is not one of the main seaside resorts of the so-called “Riviera delle Palme”, the stretch of Adriatic coast in the province of Ascoli, which includes Grottammare and San Benedetto del Tronto (designation shared with the namesake coast of western Liguria) , but is a very interesting town. Its peculiarity consists of areas belonging to different historical ages: the modern part (Cupra Marittima) developed along a beach known for being particularly clean, the medieval (Cupra Alta) is located on two hills and Roman part (who is now an archeological park of “Cupra Maritima”) is located approximately one mile north of downtown, on the hill of Civita. The area is still surrounded by medieval walls and includes the ancient village of Marano, with the church of S. Maria in Castello, with its Romanesque portal. Beyond the castle ruins and continuing for four kilometers along 16 highway, we reach Grottammare, one of the most popular tourism resort on the coast. PAOLO AND FRANCESCA AT THE CASTLE Proposed program: Departure by coach from fixed points and stop in Gradara. Guided tour of the magnificent and legendary Gradara Castle. Built on a hill , 5 km from the beach of Cattolica, the castle of Gradara is a magnificent example of military architecture of the fourteenth century. The Malatesta, Sforza and Della Rovere family did not only increase its military power and defensive, but embellished the interior rooms, through a collection of various works of art. The castle contains, in addition to the armory, a torture chamber, a chapel with a terracotta altar by Andrea della Robbia, and some upstairs rooms with original furniture of the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. Even the walls that still surround the old town are entirely feasible and from the highest tower you can enjoy a good view of the surrounding area. In Gradara stayed, among others, Francesca da Rimini and Lucrezia Borgia, and when in 1289 the Malatesta family from Rimini were exiles in Gradara, the passionate tragedy of Paolo and Francesca was consumed in the castle, immortalized by Dante in Canto V of the “Hell” section.
